As mentioned back in 2005, Todd Abramson, is "a veteran music booking agent and part owner of the legendary Maxwell's rock club in Hoboken." More recently, Todd, who sometimes puts a show at the Landmark Loew's Theatre in Jersey City, was also booking shows at Southpaw in Park Slope. He won't be booking shows at Southpaw anymore though. Instead, Todd has taken the position of head booker at the Bell House in the same neighborhood. He'll also be booking some shows at Union Hall, but not as their head booker.

Todd (who will continue to book Maxwell's too) took over for Skippy who recently left the Bell House & Union Hall, and has since found a home as the booker for The Rock Shop.

The Mugs, a band who Skippy especially has supported through the years, play their final show at The Bell House tonight (7/23).

The Dirty Glamour play The Rock Shop tonight.

Southpaw is hosting The 2010 Coney Island Cockabilly Roadshow (Real Live Sideshow! Real Live Burlesque! Real Live Rock and Roll!!).

Union Hall has: "SIKELIANOS & SIKELIANOS / MY GAY BANJO / THE LESBIAN DORKESTRA / KAREN AND THE SORROWS / DJ LIL RAY "

They do still have shows at Southpaw, but sadly too far and few between. I'm a 10 minute walk from that place. I'd LOVE it if they would step up the booking. It is actually quite a good place to see a show.

I think the last good show I saw there was Firewater touring the last record. Was that 2008? 2009?

Everyone that said Skippy leaving (fired) would be the death of the Bell House can eat their words.

Maxwell's has friggin' great shows. Bands can do a night at Bell House, and a night at Maxwell's.

Maxwells has a show almost every night. Todd does a good job with variety and bringing in good names. Hats off to him!

I guess this means that finally Bell House will have better shows. Great space, lousy bookings.

Southpaw is the dumps in terms of bookings.

Todd is a solid booker. This should give The Bell House some much needed help with getting decent tours in there.

how does one become a booker for these types of venues?

Todd has consistently done an excellent job at Maxwell's for many many years. Bell House will benefit by his experience and knowledge.

Maxwells gets all the "special" bookings because of location clauses in most bands' contracts. They probably cannot schedule another Brooklyn/Manhattan show, but can book something in NJ.

I have only been to one show at Bell House but thought it was a great venue. Also much more convenient for me then bushwick and shit. I am glad that we might get some better bands coming in.

Wrong. Maxwells get decent names for three reasons 1)larger band draw on ticket sales then most venues 2)history/nostalga or there from NJ 3)great booking

Daft punk at Bell House new years eve 2011?

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2010 2:54 PM

Southpaw is a really decent space. They can't be doing very well given their awful booking. Would be nice to see someone move in and compete directly with the Union Hall/Bell House stranglehold on the area.

if the people at bell house are reading this:

I would go to more shows if you didn't have the volume so high. It is too loud to enjoy the music.

South Paw was great at one time. I saw Bert Jansch get blown by some ethnic chick. He was finger picking her ass simultaneously.

Would love to have more good shows in that part of Brooklyn - I live in BK and hate that most of the shows here require me to go into Manhattan to switch trains back into Brooklyn to get to them!

Todd is a total pro and wherever he lands (Bell House) is lucky to have him. I've had the pleasure of working with him a few times, and enjoyed every opportunity. Booking Balthazar was a trip Todd, hope to see you soon!
