Woulda been so sweet if that photo was from the show, striking the dude from The Smiths thats in that band.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2010 11:50 PM

don't remind me. :'(

any photos of people dancing in the streets?

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2010 11:54 PM

when they opened for REM at Jones Beach about a year or two ago the same thing happened

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 12:11 AM

Anyone know if they're rescheduling?

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 12:11 AM

That was the most excitement that has ever happened at a Modest Mouse show

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 12:21 AM

thats karma!

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 12:24 AM

Tonight's show in Brooklyn, NY had to be cut short due to a lightning storm. We've now received word that the show is rumored to be rescheduled for next week Tuesday. We will post new information as we receive it.

But the following party in the streets was tight!

Posted by rck | July 24, 2010 12:33 AM

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 12:38 AM

anyone have or know of any photos of the event?

Posted by rck | July 24, 2010 12:40 AM

i could've sworn it was only 4 songs.

i hope they reschedule.

Posted by anonymous | July 24, 2010 12:45 AM

it was 5 songs, satellite skin, bury me with it, burn it up, the view, here it comes....street party was sick

Posted by bummer | July 24, 2010 1:01 AM

rapist?

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 1:03 AM

This completely sucked, I am still upset this was cancelled. I'm getting wasted to forget!

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 1:05 AM

The city of New York claims to be "The City That Never Sleeps"...unfortunately, they never have to sleep but cannot have a concert in the rain, nor go past 10pm...it is the biggest lie ever. Saw Modest Mouse in Philadelphia in 2007 (maybe 2008) at Penn's Landing in the rain, for hours before the show and during. NY STINKS!!!!!!

Posted by Ed Gillis | July 24, 2010 1:10 AM

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 1:11 AM

11:50 is a great example of a ignorant clueless jerk. Johnny MARR IS NOT IN BAND anymore.

lets get back to this "rapist" post.
wats that aboot?

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 1:29 AM

Nobody knows someone who has beeen struck by lightning...it's one of those things that you hear about, but never happens...like getting a razor in an apple on Halloween...they prematurely cancelled the show and now I have to come to that horrible venue (if you call a deserted shipyard without a parking lot a venue) on a Tuesaday and hope to find a parking spot once again on the street that isn't designated as handicapped or a fire zone in that wannabe area. Brooklyn sucks...and so does NYC!!!!

Posted by Ed Gillis | July 24, 2010 1:33 AM

videos of 3 of the songs and the storm here:

http://www.youtube.com/maestro416

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 1:51 AM

modest mouse let down their fans today. They should have went out there and played double the songs and reward the crowd for standing through the rain. Instead, they stopped playing.

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 1:53 AM

modest mouse didn't "let anyone down"

the venue shut the show down

big difference

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 1:57 AM

Who gives a shit. Should have been seeing The Mad Scene anyways. Genius without lightning vs. bullshit cut short. Easy decision.

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 2:31 AM

DONT WORRY. Modest Mouse will make the show up at the South Street Seaport Tuesday.

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 3:01 AM

Saw Metallica in 1991 play through downpours and lightning. The thunder was louder than the show. Headbangers in the rain. fucking awesome memory. Modest Mouse blew it. the music could have taken on a new vibe... oh well..

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 3:24 AM

Anyone who thinks it was modest mouse's decision to stop playing is a fucking bozo...it was the parks department's call, and Isaac made it clear more than once from the stage that he wasn't happy about it. Also, anyone who was outdoors or anywhere near a window in NYC tonight knows that wasn't a normal storm...the coast guard even ordered all boats on the river to return to dock, which is nearly unprecedented - I suppose it's their fault they actually did so instead of just rockin through the rain, huh?

They sounded great while it lasted, at least...and after it got canceled I got to hit two more shows in Williamsburg, including the Mac acre gig someone above was being a snob about. Impressed they were able to reschedule for Tuesday, and looking forward to getting a second shot at this...and r

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 4:51 AM

hey people, there was a tornado warning in effect for all of manhattan, brooklyn, bronx, etc last night. i think that's a perfect reason to shut it down.

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 5:25 AM

Ed Gillis, the only thing that sucks about NYC is you. Go back to where you came from.

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 6:44 AM

Go back where I came from...as you post anonymously...I wouldn't want to anyone to know who I am if I were a fan of Brooklyn either. Good luck getting anyone to come back to that "shit hole on the river..."

Posted by Ed Gillis | July 24, 2010 6:58 AM

here it comes sounded so good.....so bummed that this got cut short

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 7:16 AM

Wohoo!! this is so great. :D

Posted by Aweera | July 24, 2010 7:37 AM

Modest Mouse

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 8:57 AM

lame as fuck, "innocent until proven guilty".. the girl who accused him of rape pulled the charges, admitted she was lying.

Posted by jackie | July 24, 2010 9:12 AM

Wasn't this week the anniversary of Diana Ross' crazy storm concert in Central Park?

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 10:03 AM

rape lightning

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 10:26 AM

is it confirmed as being rescheduled for tuesday at south street seaport? where are you guys getting this info?

Posted by anonymous | July 24, 2010 10:32 AM

A rescheduled performance hasn't been confirmed. Where would they fit 5,000 people at the seaport? If anything, it'll be at the waterfront again.

That opening band was fucking horrible. Leave them back at the farm this time around.

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 10:56 AM

i wasn't going to jump into the rape discussion but...

it is very common for rape victims to "withdraw" charges out of embarrassment. Her dropping the charges doesn't mean she lied.

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 11:07 AM

It's also very common for false rape charges to be filed and then withdrawn.

Also, highly unlikely we get a make up show and if we do....not at the Seaport. That's just stupid.

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 11:13 AM

Suckers should have went to the wellmont gig - they killed it.

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 11:16 AM

WOAH! DOUBLE LIGHTNING!!!!

What does it mean?????

Posted by noamjamski | July 24, 2010 11:37 AM

I thought he settled the whole Rape-a-Palooza thing out of court.

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 12:03 PM

Yes lets keep amps plugged in during a massive lighting storm and play them under a gigantic metal fixture. Everyone on here who for some strange reason thinks that they should have kept playing should go out and stand in a field with a giant metal rod the next time there is a lightning storm and see how comfortable they feel. Ignorant people shut up. Aside from the lightning did you people not see the sideways rain that continued on and off for approximately an hour???? You must have been sleeping thru technology class and forgot the lesson about water and electronics. If that is the case take a guitar amp plug it in, turn it on and spray it with your garden hose. Wait that might just be one multi step direction too many for you.

Modest Mouse is one of the best bands around.

Posted by william | July 24, 2010 12:08 PM

Also Id like to chime in on the rape accusations and the way our legal system works. Last I checked our legal system operates on the principal of "innocent until proven guilty". Keep that in mind. IN ADDITION to that there were never any charges filed only a police report, which lends even more to the fact that the accusations were completely unsubstantiated.

I thought as a society we were trying to move away from witch hunts and branding people for the rest of their lives based on bullshit.

Posted by william | July 24, 2010 12:14 PM

So does anyone know for sure if they are going to re-schedule or can we get a refund for this garbage

Posted by Dingo | July 24, 2010 12:14 PM

modest mouse could have kept playing. who would have stopped them. but they chose to lay down their insruments and let their fans down. dont defend them.

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 12:21 PM

for those who are mad that they unplugged their shit - were we at the same venue? did you actually see the lightening? that shit was intense. i was bummed too - but if they do the right thing and reschedule their show, i'm happy.

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 12:24 PM

Forget Modest Mouse I want my money back

Posted by Pants | July 24, 2010 12:25 PM

is this recscheduled for tuesday? i need to get off work if thats the case.

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 12:34 PM

gotta love when noobs come looking for genuine info and get caught up in the usual BV trolling.

NO SOUTH STREET SEAPORT. it'll be at the waterfront

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 12:52 PM

free energy still played through the lightning, that show didn't get cancelled...

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 12:53 PM

"modest mouse could have kept playing. who would have stopped them. but they chose to lay down their insruments and let their fans down. dont defend them."

Hmmm who [what] would stop them?... Possibly a lightning bolt to the stage. Give Modest Mouse a break. That lightning was intense and there was a tornado watch. Plus it wasn't their decision to stop the show anyway.

It's amazing how quickly people will turn on a band for something that isn't their fault. I would just like a rescheduled date.

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 12:54 PM

>Suckers should have went to the wellmont gig - they killed it.

I'd rather see 5 shows on the BK waterfront than a whole set in Jersey

Posted by Certified Hater | July 24, 2010 1:10 PM

i thought the opener had some solid jams. i was a fan. sucks they didnt come back on since they only had to wait 30minutes but it might be better to reschedule because they could only play til 10pm to begin with so it would have been a short show. we're better off getting to see them again on tuesday and play a full set. if they're playing tuesday. they dont have any shows between monday and august when they go to europe seems like a no brainer

Posted by orngfan | July 24, 2010 1:16 PM

I think that lightning was actually emanating from the Free Energy show...

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 1:28 PM

@william 12:14,
"I thought as a society we were trying to move away from witch hunts and branding people for the rest of their lives based on bullshit."

Are you crazy william? We live for this stuff!
On another note you got waaay too much faith in society/people.
We're terrible

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 1:39 PM

William couldn't have said it better. You've got to be one fucking jackass to think that Modest Mouse should have continued playing during a goddamn lightning storm. You're probably the same hipster douchebags that know nothing more than partying, criticizing, and making shitty art projects while you live of your mommy and daddy's rent checks and wear the same stinky-ass ripped American Apparel shirts over and over again.

Posted by Thomas | July 24, 2010 1:41 PM

How and when are we going to find out if this is rescheduled????????????

Posted by aNON | July 24, 2010 1:46 PM

Modest Mouse is NOT a hipster band and will never be!

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 1:47 PM

what time does daft punk go on?

Posted by me | July 24, 2010 2:29 PM

I know someone who got struck by lightning. It was f*cked up. He was basically retarded. Not worth it for someone to go through that just so some people can see Modest Mouse. It did sound pretty good out there though, I was surprised

Posted by James | July 24, 2010 2:52 PM

"I know someone who got struck by lightning. It was f*cked up. He was basically retarded. Not worth it for someone to go through that just so some people can see Modest Mouse."

I'd rather get retard-ified by lightning than listen to 5 modest mouse songs.

Posted by Venkman | July 24, 2010 2:57 PM

GG Allin would've kept playing.
'Nuff said.

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 3:02 PM

Where are the rumors/details of the rescheduling coming from? Any more word on this?

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 3:56 PM

I'm not sure you can use GG Allin's name in any argument and expect to prove any point. Just the fact that you know his name means that I would never be able to see you as a voice of reason!

Posted by Russ | July 24, 2010 4:31 PM

In an insane world, GG Allin is the voice of reason.

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 5:08 PM

Fckk God. Jonny Marr's not in the band anymore. What we got was good, what we're gonna get will be better. It was hard cursing the storm - it was wild.

Posted by JC | July 24, 2010 5:30 PM

Damn, I was thinking about that REM show when I read this - I was at that one and it was crazy. I was also at a concert where lightning DID hit about 10 people in the audience about 10 rows above me. With last night's storm, halting it would def. be the right decision.

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 5:34 PM

any video of the rape?

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 5:52 PM

that storm was not that crazy. if anyone was at camp bisco last weekend (although i doubt anyone on BV was), then you would know what a real lightning storm looks like

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 6:22 PM

^^^^^
but you are on BV you asshole

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 6:46 PM

the hipsters running to defend modest mouse are abominable. free energy didnt quit their set. It was the same situation as modest mouse. But modest mouse are a bunch of divas that dont give a crap about their fans. Last time I pay money to see them.

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 7:33 PM

Do they still play songs from their first 2 albums? Man that shit was good.

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 7:54 PM

Modest Mouse was a hipster band about 12 years ago. It would be great if Brock came out with a statement that said: "Yeah, the lightning was pretty bad but we just sort of realized after the fifth song that we're complete shit and the lightning was a good excuse to stop playing music forever."

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 8:13 PM

the last two new york shows canceled because of some rain both involved modest mouse. probably not a coincidence. if modest mouse cant handle the elements, they shouldnt book outdoor concerts.

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 8:17 PM

Mouse was never a "hipster band" they came out of the 90's indie scene which is far from the crappy electro/indie/hipster Brooklyn garbage you'll hear today,, They're rock n' roll

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 8:23 PM

The majority of you are so god damn dumb. MODEST MOUSE DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE, THE STAGE DIRECTORS KICKED EVERY ONE OUT. If you were there (like I was last night), you'd remember the cops coming in and forcing everyone to get out. It was torrential downpour and it was an insane lightning storm for about an hour. Pieces of the stage were trembling, the back mesh screen fell down and shit was crazy. Don't hate on Modest Mouse because of the weather...it's not their damn fault!

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 9:00 PM

They may have only played 5 songs, but they still sounded amaZing. I'm disappointed they didn't play any of my favorite songs. I really hope they reschedule!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Beth | July 24, 2010 9:58 PM

im sorry anon 9:00 but you are obviously confusing the modest mouse concert with the apocalypse

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 10:48 PM

LOL some of these comments are killing me. It was an awesome few songs, this is a skilled veteran live band with exceptional talent. just look at the crowd that appeared--music is subjective so when I see someone call it "shit" I know we are dealing with an adolescent. Don't waste time responding, ultimately they are trolls. I do think venue was poor, weather report was accurate for a week, communication sucked to fans afterwards and why not start main act earlier?

MM cannot control the weather or park service who called it. if you really think they should have kept playing, you're a serious moron

Ride The Lightning!

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 11:18 PM

Look, clearly Modest Mouse couldn't have continued playing. They were basically yanked off the stage by the parks dept. minutes before a terrible lightning storm. Nothing they could do, end of discussion.

BUT, in the age of constant communication and knowing that their fans are wondering about the possibility of a rescheduled show, how in the world have they not posted a message on Twitter, Facebook, their website, etc. Something like, "Hey guys, bummer about last night, we'll try and reschedule, blah, blah, blah..." Anything. The silence makes me think they don't care.

Posted by Jason | July 24, 2010 11:25 PM

addressing some of the ridiculous points in this thread

1. modest mouse had nothing to do with it, check the videos above. they wanted to keep playing. http://www.youtube.com/maestro416

2. obviously it was the park who wanted people out. if someone gets struck on their property it's their problem. if someone gets struck on the street it's the city's problem. simple as that.

3. there's either gonna be a reschedule or a refund so shut your traps bitches.

4. you can't call a band who's been putting music out since the beginning of "post-grunge" a "hipster band"; fucktards.

anything else?

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2010 11:25 PM

torrential downpour? its called rain. free energy kept playing. modest mouse didnt. lightning was faaar away. On top of that, no announcement regarding rescheduling. very disrespectful to fans Or former fans, as the case may be.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2010 12:06 AM

Why the hell did the tickets say 5:30 only for some lame ass band to start after 7? This storm was forcasted earlier in the day and MM should have cancelled that shit band and played from 5:30 on. Ticketmaster is a piece of shit and will never refund money. Plus I eat cows and pigs and chickens and vegans suck.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2010 12:58 AM

beach fossils

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2010 1:42 AM

It was not just some Rain there was a Tornado warning for the hundredth time. Obv those of you who keep insisting it would have been a good idea to keep the show going are clearly stubborn as hell. If you were there you should know people were actually starting to scream and run away from the venue at one point because the storm was hitting hard. Ticketmaster is refunding those who want to be refunded starting monday so quit your whining. Modest Mouse did fucking great while they lasted out there and cant control the weather. If you didn't like Modest Mouse you shouldn't have been there to begin with.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2010 2:14 AM

Where did you hear about the refunds?

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2010 2:34 AM

or about rescheduling?

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2010 2:38 AM

City needs to take control of the park. Beer Concentration Camp + Fascist Security Guards taking water bottles from people in the worst July heat in almost 100 years in NYC = abject fail for all shows. I'm pissed when I go to the free shows at the Waterfront, I would shit a brick if I paid for that garbage venue. Given how much $$$ they have sound is pretty dubious as well.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2010 3:43 AM

You can plan for just about everything to have a great outdoor event but your always at the mercy of the elements when you do an outdoor gig.

Posted by Peter | July 25, 2010 5:39 AM

Shut up everyone. You should have been at the show last night in Wallingford, CT in what Isaac called the world's largest yurt - they absolutely killed it for about 1,000 "close" friends. No crazy security and a real bar making real drinks for real people.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2010 6:32 AM

Referring to ANYTHING that happens in your shitty, pathetic life as 'Concentration Camp + Fascist' is total fucking BS! You are such goddamn loser that it makes me sick. Let's see how long you would last in a totalitarian regime and then you can cry about facist concert security. Suburban douchefuck! Concentration camp for beer lines???? While I don't know you, I can only pray that something awful happens to you. FUCKER!

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2010 8:42 AM

way to attack someone who said something extreme by saying something equally extreme. a sad life you must lead.

and i was at the show and modest mouse could have/should have started earlier. that much is a given.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2010 8:54 AM

They make take our water bottles, but the will never take...OUR FREEDOM!!!

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2010 11:13 AM

"...a real bar making real drinks for real people."

at least you don't sound like a douchebag.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2010 11:27 AM

wasnt ther like a tornado warning as well ... sounds like a trampling incident waiting to happen

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2010 11:43 AM

You know who gives a fuck about Free Energy? Nobody. So shut the fuck up. I wish they'd get hit my lightening.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2010 12:54 PM

anyone defending modest mouse's decision to stop playing is either a douchebag or a member of the Modest Mouse PR team. Blaming the parks department is ridiculous as well.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2010 1:22 PM

Did anyone hear about the festival in Germany where the 1.4 million in attendance stampeded and killed 18 people? We should all be thankful that Modest Mouse isn't that popular or 23% of us that posted on here would have been trampled. It seems that a few could benefit from that...

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2010 1:37 PM

go to the maestro's videos and tell me that the rain was enough to cancel the show. The videos clearly show that modest mouse overreacted, screwing over fans in the process.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2010 2:09 PM

hey guys - shut up.
