DOWNLOAD: La Otracina - "Raze The Sky" (MP3)

La Otracina

Incorporating elements of hard rock, punk, and metal, La Otracina still know how to lock into a heavy-psychedelic groove, and they do it well. The retro-leaning band will show off some of those XL riffs on a new LP Reality Has Got to Die out now digitally via Holy Mountain Records. Hard formats are due in September. Spacey but not meandering, gently melodic but with cojones, La Otracina pummel on burly tracks like "Raze The Sky" available for download above.

La Otracina's genetic make up is similarly awesome, featuring members of Titan, Children, and the dearly-departed Nebula (who played the BV day-party at Fontana's last year). The trio will show off their chops at a number of NYC shows in the coming weeks including Coco 66 Wednesday (7/28) with Telecult Powers & La Big Vic, August 27th at Union Pool with a killer teaming of Bezoar, Naam, and Wizardry, and September 16th at Union Pool with Mondo Drag and The Main Street Gospel. Full tour sked and some videos are below...

One of the most underrated bands in BK. These guys are absolutely crushing live.

Posted by Anonymous | July 27, 2010 12:46 PM

He's the one they call Dr. Philgood!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | July 27, 2010 1:12 PM

Hey !!!!
is that a PUCCI your wearing dude ????

Posted by Anonymous | July 27, 2010 2:02 PM

too bad these dudes are douchebags. played a show with them a few years ago and they were total tittie-baby primadonnas. thumbs way down.

Posted by Anonymous | July 27, 2010 2:58 PM

Is it really worth your time to anonymously bash this band? They are incredibly nice, relaxed dudes.

Posted by Anonymous | July 27, 2010 3:40 PM

emo adam!

Posted by annie momus | July 27, 2010 4:00 PM

agreed @2:58- but partially---- the drummer is a huge fucking self righteous asshole, the guy in the middle is very nice, and the guy on the left is nice but thinks he's a rockstar

Posted by Anonymous | July 27, 2010 4:06 PM

how many bands are NICE?! jesus christ you pussies, who the fuck cares, you don't have to be their fucking friend or even like them as people, they're just making their music for fuck's sake.

Posted by Anonymous | July 27, 2010 4:48 PM

4:48 must be the aforementioned asshole drummer

Posted by Anonymous | July 27, 2010 4:57 PM

the drummer got kicked out of nebula because they thought he sucked

Posted by Anonymous | July 27, 2010 4:58 PM

nebula sucks

Posted by Anonymous | July 27, 2010 5:00 PM

@4:48, personalities and the way you treat people are not completely irrelevant to your music and art. why would you support someone who's an outright asshole? Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't support a band with band member(s) whom I know for sure are assholes just like how i wouldn't support a band with racist/homophobic/etc members. Being "nice" is not a necessity for a band but it sure does goes a long way.

Posted by Anonymous | July 27, 2010 5:09 PM

i agree with what's said about that drummer, a true fucking douchebag. and the asian feller is a fucking lothario

Posted by Anonymous | July 27, 2010 5:14 PM

why is everyone wasting their time complaining about this band?? they suck, they look like they're 50 years old, waste your animosity on some younger bands

Posted by Anonymous | July 27, 2010 5:19 PM

Remembering El Duce of the Mentors...
now he was an asshole drummer !!!!!!
That would kick your ass, drink all your liquor, and screw anything that walked...

Posted by Anonymous | July 27, 2010 5:20 PM

I think this is the band that always bitches about no one coming to their shows

Posted by Anonymous | July 27, 2010 5:22 PM

THEY CAN"T BE AS BAD AS SURFER BLOOD

Posted by Anonymous | July 27, 2010 5:27 PM

that doesn't look like a tour schedule.

Posted by justin husher | July 27, 2010 6:10 PM

we all sound like a bunch of anonymous pussies to me. haters go hate yourself and spare the rest of us the torture of reading your senseless drivel. this band is great and their members are great at what they do.

now fuck off.

Posted by Anonymous | July 27, 2010 6:57 PM

I agree that folks are too quick to hate around here. I'm not a huge fan, but they definitely deserve more props than the insults hurling around here like so much monkey shit. Adam (the drummer/bandleader)in particular puts a lot of effort into things...from writing the music to putting out his own records, artwork, etc, and a shit-ton of touring...putting yourself out there like that is enough to make anyone paranoid. Chances are, if you are talking shit around here, you've never run a band and/or a label, or put yourself out there creatively. If you have and are still throwing monkey shit, then you're just a dick. If one of these guys has offended you personally, then take it up personally. Anonymous personal attacks say more about the author than the subject.

Posted by Andrew | July 27, 2010 7:33 PM

6:57 right on. love how there's not 1 fucking person on here who will give their name, their band's name or even any specifics about their beef with these dudes, just a bunch of faceless, hide behind a monitor bullshit. anyone can go online and post and make up shit and lie all day about things they know nothing about too, about other people's bands or other people's lives, a sad world. i bet these people have never even seen or met this band before.

and on top of that, if any of you based your record collection on the band/artist being 'nice people', you'd be pretty fucking surprised how little music you actually listened to. you think Iggy Pop was nice, you think Jimmy Page was nice, you think Miles Davis was nice, you think James Brown was nice, you think Johnny Cash was nice, etc...I worship these musicians, we all do, not cause they were nice, but because of their art, understand the difference.

i don't even care about this band at all, i don't even know them, its just really corny how negative folks get about ART.

priorities people......

Right on, brother. 5:09 is so fucking deluded its actually funny.

Posted by Anonymous | July 27, 2010 8:24 PM

I played a few times with a band that shared the same practice space building with them, and every time they would walk past, it seemed that they were talking about how shitty all the bands in the building were--- including some that can only be described as doing what la otracina tries to do, only way better and more successfully---these guys do put out a lot of stuff and tour and all, and fit into a certain neo free jazz-kraut-experimental (KING CRIMSON WORSHIPPING) scene that is pretty interesting, but the backbiting is something I'll always associate with them.

Posted by Anonymous | July 27, 2010 11:44 PM

they always complain that they're not bigger than they are, someone tell them it's because they look like cheech and chong plus a furry freak brother

Posted by Anonymous | July 27, 2010 11:46 PM

I bet the whole band plus their fat friends from high school have all posted the defenses above

Posted by Anonymous | July 27, 2010 11:48 PM

It's not a question of whether they're NICE or not, but when you talk shit about fellow musicians behind their backs, but most likely are nice to their faces, people will start to consider you to be a little bitter worm, a snake in the grass, a coward, etc; this isn't the Johnny Cash bravado-style asshole at all. Therefore, the above commenters are correct in asserting that this assholiness in unproductive for them.

Posted by Anonymous | July 27, 2010 11:58 PM

i absolutely REFUSE to believe that someone talked shit about another person, and got away with it. this is UNFORGIVABLE and totally unimaginable. it seems like the absolute furthest thing from what goes on here on this message board. the nerve of some people...

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2010 1:07 AM

All cities music scenes talk a little shit but my god Brooklyn is bad and maybe rightly so because so many of the indie bands have this rock star attitude which is contrary to what it should be.

You might really expect that from some 80's hair metal idiot bands and sure "musicians" are temperamental although with song titles like Beyond the Smoke maybe they would be real and able to laugh at the fantastic titles? Maybe not.

I'm sure King Crimson or at least Adrian Belew is not a flaky person being able to talk to him in a down to earth manner even though the band had differences.

I can say for certain that many of the great intelligent guys in Devo are not by any means full of themselves. Then again thats maybe a completely different type of band.

I bet Holger Czukay in Can is a nice guy.
Im sure Axel Rose is a not so nice guy sometimes. See the difference?

^^^

wishes he had cornrows.

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2010 10:14 AM

Tinariwen called, they want their clothes back.

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2010 4:44 PM

I've worked with this band, and they are the absolute worst. I've never heard grown men cry about shit so much in my life.

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2010 6:31 PM

this is insane. let a rock band rock.

the best part about living in cleveland (besides cheap rent) is people don't talk about how you look.

in the meantime, i hope people start liking music again for the musical experience and not the social one.

so yall stop chasing petty nickles.

la otracina rule. they do more in their single song arrangements than most bands do in a career. if you haven't caught up yet, then that's on you.

i'm glad their touring again. it sounds like they need to get out of town.

for the record, damon che is an asshole.

Posted by justin husher | July 28, 2010 7:12 PM

I don't judge bands on what they look like, I judge bands on the amount of hummus they eat.

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2010 7:39 PM

Is it just me or does the guy on the right look like weird al yankovic on acid?

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2010 7:50 PM

wow, what a fucking outpouring of hatred! and good-couldn't happen to a bigger bunch of dicks

Posted by Anonymous | July 29, 2010 4:22 AM

Are you referring to the drummer from Don Caballero 7:12 PM? Yes he is known to be difficult or an ass. His version of Don Caballero is something that should have been laid to rest.

I did see this band La otracina once and they were OK but the rock star attitude was emanating off them. Too retro and just made me want to see Budgie 30 years ago.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2010 12:42 AM

these guys absolutely destroy live, and they're getting better with every tour. i've met them all personally and have found them to be easy to talk to. the people here who suggest that the only musicians worth paying attention to are those in their early 20s are ridiculous; one day the young and glamorous [and underwhelming] will be superold and ugly as all hell and they will never have come close to the talent these guys collectively have.

Wizardry ruled the stage with classic metal / Judas Priest inspired rock your socks off goodness. For all you haters La Otracina tore union pool in half with infectious dueling guitars and spaced out pink floyd inspired soundscapes. So get into some good metal and support these real Brooklyn bands and stop the hate you pussies!

Posted by Anonymous | August 28, 2010 2:22 PM

Yeah well, I happened to be there on Friday night and heard about this band via this thread and went in to hear it for myself and well, these Otracina guys killed it. Amazing songcraft, energy, skills and riffs. They pummeled the shit out of this lame ass thread. Haha you haters are the biggest wimps that probably couldn't hang with these guys if they had one stick and one string to share amongst the 3 of them.
