Major Lazer @ Pitchfork Fest Sunday
this1

"The tempo picked up again with Major Lazer at 6:15 p.m., and--hallelujah!--it stayed at a pretty high level through the end of Pitchfork 2010...

...Though Young is missing from the [Pavement] reunion, Stephen Malkmus and his bandmates were musically concise, tight, and focused, and they delivered many of their best songs--"Range Life," "Frontwards," "Greenlander," and "Unfair" among them--in versions that were every bit as strong as they were back in the day, and better in some cases than that last stage of the group. Since the music always seemed timeless, there was less of a taint of nostalgia here then with, say, the Pixies reunion, though to be sure, the motivations probably were very much the same, and mostly colored green... [Jim DeRegatis]

The 2010 Pitchfork Festival has come to an end, and if you've been following along, you saw pictures from Day 1 & 2, pictures of LCD Soundsystem, and more pictures from Day 1 & 2. Now a set of pictures from the third and final day, with a bunch of setlists from all three days (including Pavement's), below...

Posted by Anonymous | July 19, 2010 4:14 AM

So is this what not paying for photos turns up? These are awful

Posted by Cloke | July 19, 2010 6:26 AM

The pictures aren't actually bad at all, there just aren't any wide-angle photos. And any decent photographer knows that wide-angle is a crutch anyway.

Posted by Anonymous | July 19, 2010 7:48 AM

Isn't guy in 4th photo from nyc?

Posted by Anonymous | July 19, 2010 7:56 AM

Oh, the redhead. Let me get up in them gills.

Posted by mgp | July 19, 2010 9:11 AM

@7:48, a crutch for what? variety from single performer shots?

Posted by Anonymous | July 19, 2010 9:14 AM

Damn I didn't know Simply Red was in Girls now. Way to go Red. He has had such a long musical career. "I keep holden on. I keep holden on. Holden, Holden, Holden, Hooooooooll!"

Posted by Anonymous | July 19, 2010 10:08 AM

caught some of Lightning Bolt online, and they ruled.

Posted by Anonymous | July 19, 2010 10:21 AM

Is this the first time that Lightning Bolt played on a stage?

Posted by Anonymous | July 19, 2010 10:29 AM

Really disappointed they didn't stream the Pavement show.

Posted by Anonymous | July 19, 2010 10:46 AM

the Big Boi set was horrible! all he did was play Outkast songs ... total bullshit.

Posted by Anonymous | July 19, 2010 12:16 PM

My top sets of the festival: 1) Beach House, 2) Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, 3) Lightning Bolt.

Glad to see some pics of the idiot crowdsurfing to Lightning Bolt while holding his poster tube.

Finally, a zillion pictures of Major Lazer and only one of the Chinese dragons? Those made for the best set design of the whole fest.

Posted by LKJ | July 19, 2010 12:42 PM

Posted by Anonymous | July 19, 2010 1:01 PM

Posted by Anonymous | July 19, 2010 1:04 PM

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2010 10:50 AM

in no particular order, my favorite acts were Kurt Vile, Pavement, CAVE, Best Coast, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Big Boi, and Lightning Bolt. I love BSS but there was NO love in that set. None. And LCD was a big letdown for me. Some things are just better on record. This was my 4th year at Pitchfork and this was by far the most disappointing time I've ever had.

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2010 12:03 PM

LCD a letdown? too much acid? they fucking ruled! my favorite set of the festival. Wolf Parade were grea along with Titus Andronicus and Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. Major Lazer were impressive but set was too long. also i love Pavement and it was pure joy seeing those songs live again but I can't believe DeRogatis called it a tight set, it was very sloppy. Malkmus would start songs while Scott was still tuning. Malkmus would start a song then realize he needed to tune. He tuned during songs when he realized he was out of tune. Malkmus would also frequently wing solos as well. Its a festival, they didnt have a ton of time, its understandable but it was anything but tight. Slint and Jesus Lizard reunions were tight shows even at festivals, Pavement was awkward, clumsy, carefree, snarky, loose and seemed a bit rattled by the expectations but delivered nonetheless. kind of like their whole existence. set list selection was top notch and it was great to see them but Pavement at a festival is clearly not the best environment to see them do their thing

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2010 12:30 PM

Festival was great as it is every year. Can't give enough kudos to the people running the festival. They went above and beyond to keep people cool and safe. Wish I had a better way to communicate that it was appreciated.

SOMEBODY'S GONNA GET PREGNANT!!!!!!

Production company who does the lighting and sound for Pitchfork should be fired.

It gets worse every year.
