Rival Schools @ Mercury Lounge in 2008 (more by Kurt Christensen)
Rival Schools

IRR: You have stated that a new Rival Schools record will be released in the next few months. Is it the same lineup or are there some new members?
Walter Schreifels: They'll be a new Rival Schools record in October. I believe there will be a reissue of Slip (on vinyl) in the fall. Rival Schools is all the same members.

IRR: How does the record sound so far and how is it different from the last few Rival Schools records that were released?
WS: I'll just answer for Rival Schools when I say that it's a very comfortable progression. I think we managed to take chances moving forward and hold on to the integrity of our first release.

There are two shows happening at Williamsburg Waterfront this weekend. The free Pool Party ends the weekend on Sunday, and the weekend begins Friday night with Weezer, Rival Schools (whose member Ian Love I saw at the Faith No More show at the same venue), and Awolnation. Tickets for the Weezer show are still on sale, and I have a few pairs to give away (details below).

Rival Schools have one other show coming up, also with Weezer, and it happens to be tonight, 7/15, at Foxwoods Resort Casino in CT. All Weezer dates and the contest details below...

Gorilla Biscuits > Quicksand > Youth of Today > Rival Schools

Actually, Rival Schools does not even belong on that list. Enough of this alt-rock cash grab already.

what, you should be in youth of today when your 41? Rival Schools is not really winning out on your cash grab theory either.

Rival Schools rules, Douche Bader Ginsburg.

Rival Schools is way more hardcore than Walter's "solo" album and Walking COncert. I would say they were more alt rock cash grab's (that didn't grab any cash). Still I love WAlter's cover of AF's "Society's Suckers"

Let's just get a Quicksand reunion going and be over this already.

the only good band with Walter was Quicksand.
Enough said.

it has nothing to do with alt rock or cash grabs, rival schools is just bad. their sound is horribly generic and boring.

Agreed. RS are just generic and boring. Quicksand was his high water mark- best of all he has done/ will ever do. Too bad those days are gone...
