uh oh....every worthwhile band is on the main stage. (except for matt & kim, duh)

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 2:56 PM

earl greyhound and holy fuck is very worthwile. I bet that that holy fuck show is going to be worth a look.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 2:58 PM

lousy lineup.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 2:59 PM

wye oak may be one of the best bands there

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 3:00 PM

Holy Fuck is probably the best band on the lineup, and they always put on a great show

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 3:01 PM

seriously lousy lineup. can't believe they would let it sink to this after so many past great years.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 3:04 PM

I'll be at Pitchfork:)

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 3:05 PM

really disappointed in this

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 3:05 PM

I look at this and it feels like every act is of the same level, except Ted Leo but they've been playing so frequently they are kind of in that same vein venue wise.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 3:06 PM

Wye Oak rule, but unfortunately they can't even sell out Mercury Lounge.

Apache Beat lol

Ponytail are great but only about 20 people like them

Earl Greyhound would probably play at 8pm on a Pianos show

Harlem have some hype, but still no big deal

Cymbals Eat Guitars are over

Holy Fuck will bring out some kids

Posted by Mr Stillwell | July 12, 2010 3:10 PM

when signing up for the Toyota Antics Monotonix show it asks:

"Check here if you would like to be contacted by a dealer at the phone number provided."

Does anyone know what this dealer is selling and if it will be ok to use out in the open at the actual party

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 3:12 PM

Wow. This is bad. Like, really bad.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 3:14 PM

Gloriously there are big thunderstorms predicted for Saturday...a big ole jolt of lightning taking out thousands of hipsters would be a great way to celebrate the weekend! Also, that's what you get when you book such a shitty lineup like this! Earl fucking Greyhound and Apache Beat? What is this 2006?

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 3:16 PM

this is a sweet Market Hotel lineup. Oh wait, it's the Siren Festival?

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 3:17 PM

OH NO, ANOTHER ABSOLUTELY FREE CONCERT TO COMPLAIN ABOUT!! THE HORRORS!!!! MY GOD, IS THERE NO END TO THIS TORTURE??

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 3:17 PM

Douchebag Hipsters Unite!

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 3:18 PM

what a disappointing lineup

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 3:24 PM

poor ted leo opening for matt and kim.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 3:25 PM

What a bummer! A free concert!

(seriously, you vain, self-conscious dipshits... how can you complain about a free show. don't like it? don't go. unlike everything else you do, no need to follow the herd)

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 3:26 PM

I hate this lineup but I'm going to just to piss off "so don't go" guy.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 3:33 PM

yea, agree, line up is not great, but really, free show with a bunch of decent bands, and you're going to complain? then don't go!!

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 3:38 PM

why all the bitchin..it's free?!

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 3:41 PM

I think everyone is bitching because you have the village voice + tons of sponsors, coney island and a name brand festival all entities which should be able to pull some of the best talent around and yet we get some very weak leftovers from last decade.

No one is bitching that it's free everyone is bitching that the lineup sucks. What's wrong w/complaining to make your disappointment heard so maybe, just maybe the organizers will step up their game.

That's why so many of these new bands suck. You pussies will accept anything and not hold anyone to higher standards! Same holds true for this festival.

Posted by anonymous | July 12, 2010 3:46 PM

Oh for fuck's sake will the "it's free, stop complaining people" just die of a heart attack already. You are so fucking annoying.
Who gives a shit if it is for free. That does not mean you can't complain about how bad it was.

Hey you "it's free" shitheads. If Right Said Fred was the only band playing every single Waterfront Sunday pool party this summer, would you tell everyone to not complain cause it's free?

I don't care that this festival is free. It is a shitty lame half assed effort of a lineup. The Siren people should be embarrassed to put this lineup out there.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 3:49 PM

i'd go to see holy fuck again

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 3:50 PM

Quick question, which band on this list does not belong on it?

JSBX
Sleater Kinney
Modest Mouse
Death Cab For Cutie
Spoon
New York Dolls
Stephen Malkmus
Built To Spill
Matt & Kim

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 3:53 PM

Anon3:49pm - If Right Said Fred was the only band playing every single Waterfront Sunday pool party this summer...

Actually, that would be an improvement on some of those Sundays. Rather see them than Chromeo.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 3:53 PM

Holy Fuck >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Matt & Kim

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 3:55 PM

3:46 and 3:49 speak the truth, AMEN BROTHERS

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 3:56 PM

hahaha right said fred should totally play a pool party

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 3:56 PM

bitching about bitching

the cycle continues

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 3:58 PM

@353! I know! I Know!! Matt and Kim dosn't belong!

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 4:00 PM

I remember when Yeah Yeah Yeahs and TV on the Radio played this via "good ol' days"

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 4:03 PM

I'm a raging homo

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 4:03 PM

Ted Leo must be spinning in his grave.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 4:12 PM

@3.46 You can make your disappointment heard by simply not going...that speaks volumes much louder than this stupid comments section, and nobody has to endure the incessant whining. Besides, nobody gives a shit what you think about the lineup. Some people might think it's not that bad. Especially for free.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 4:15 PM

ill be dropping by to see the night marchers destroy this wimpy turd line-up and then ill go back to civilization.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 4:16 PM

353> if matt and kim were naked and about to be hit by a bus, they might make the list.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 4:17 PM

i have been to 8 sirens. one yr i went to pitchfork. it never rains at siren, it is always very hot. the yr yyy and sk played it looked like it might rain, but it did not. that yr it was also nice and cool. this is the worst line up, but it is free. the sound is always bad and vv always hires the same pa company.

Posted by i like to complain | July 12, 2010 4:21 PM

Of the bands listed by 3:53 I would say that NY Dolls does not belong. Also, bad news for all your sentimental indie rockers out there: Matt & Kim are well more popular these days than:
Malkmus (solo only)
Built to Spill
JSBX
New York Dolls
and are bigger than Spoon were when they headlined. It's a sad truth for you to swallow, but check out their record+ticket sales. Facts are facts.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 4:24 PM

Fuck all you haters. I have the biggest dick in town, and you can gag on that shit if you want. BALLER!

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 4:29 PM

Between the Pool Party line-ups and Siren, there has clearly been a decrease in the amount of sponsorship dollars that these bookers are working with.

While none of them are outright terrible, there is a single show on the waterfront this year that's can't-miss.

As for Siren: with what little money they must have to make this happen, they certainly aren't doing a great job this go-round.

Maybe these Saturday Jelly shows will be more interesting, and at least R2R, Seaport, and Summerstage are hookin' it up still.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 4:34 PM

Holy crap people. For real, there are like 5 free concerts you can goto on a daily basis in the area. You sound retarted complaining sooooooooo much. Is this what constitues a business degree at NYU? Nagging and bitching about free shit?

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 4:38 PM

seaport is hooking it up? ummm... it's pretty much a bunch of cake shop / pianos level bands playing seaport this year.

but you're right about summerstage. Jimmy Cliff was OFF THE CHAIN yesterday.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 4:39 PM

"You sound retarted"

no. you sound RETARTED.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 4:46 PM

Monotonix is also pretty horrible and vapid.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 4:48 PM

It's true about Jimmy Cliff.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 4:51 PM

Seven Years into the future.
"This line up sucks remember Mat and Kim
Why can't they book bands like that."
Ish is always better when you were twenty two.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 4:57 PM

Ahhhhh!!!!!!! at 446, I see what you did there! You caught somebody's spelling error!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good work! :)

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 5:01 PM

no you sound retarted

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 5:03 PM

you guys are a bunch of retarts.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 5:05 PM

Seaport has a Cake Shop-vibe to it, I'll admit, but Thee Oh Sees, Avi Buffalo, Best Coast and Yacht are all a bit more popular than that space.

Governor's has good stuff: Dr. Dog, Caribou, etc.

Nortec was craaaaazy at Central Park last week.

And Celebrate Brooklyn: The Roots, guys. Sonic Youth? Yes.

It's a good summer after all.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 5:06 PM

5:06 hit the nail on the head. Since there's so many outdoor shows in New York now, no single festival, whether it's Siren or the Pool Parties, is going to have a top-to-bottom killer list. Hit up Siren on Saturday because it's the only day you go to Coney Island. And spend some time at venues in parks around the city.

Huzzah!

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 5:15 PM

Dom = Doom?

Dom = Doom?

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 5:17 PM

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 5:25 PM

I say it every year so I may as well get it out of the way: Bigger bands should play Stillwell Stage. More room, less Cyclone noise.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 5:29 PM

^And every year you're apparently ignored.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 5:39 PM

Siren Mehstival.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 6:01 PM

hey where is Justine D?

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 6:18 PM

Radiohead sucks.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 6:19 PM

4 years too late, Siren suddenly rips off the Bkyln diy scene circa 2006, hard

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 6:19 PM

All you lil devils out there talking sooo much shit about our show every year. Tsk tsk I say! If you were nice I may even consider rescuing you out of the sea of the great unwashed and get u back in VIP. Butcha gotta be 21 plus so don't think you kids will meet the age or height requirements to ride the ride. I'm the Indian crying one tear on the side of the road as you throw your garbage on us. Like Black Flag we'll Rise Above as we are old school punkers who do it for the kiddies but alas the kiddies have turned on daddy.

Posted by Neil Pineschi | July 12, 2010 7:26 PM

Maybe if so many of you assholes weren't ripping artists off by stealing their music online, the bigger bands could afford to pass up some of the bigger paydays to play at free shows like this.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 7:30 PM

You gotta admit, the first few Siren lineups were great.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 7:52 PM

Night Marchers fucking slay but I'd rather see them at Maxwells on the next night.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 8:00 PM

2010: The Year Ted Leo opened for Matt & Kim.

2012 can't get here fast enough.

Posted by J | July 12, 2010 8:14 PM

It would be cool if they denied anyone sporting a Midwest ID..You are all a bunch of assholes

Posted by Steve | July 12, 2010 8:18 PM

If you comment on Brooklynvegan YOU ARE A HIPSTER.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 9:23 PM

fuck my life for not being able to go to this. It sounds so perfect

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 9:47 PM

well thank you kindly @947.

//Village Voice

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 10:31 PM

This will be the first Siren I've missed in years. The only band I'd be very excited to see, other than Ted Leo - who we've all had several chances to see, is Fucked Up. Harlem's cool too. Meh.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 10:39 PM

4:24, you're nuts if you really think that Matt and Kim are bigger than New York Dolls or Spoon

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 10:40 PM

Speedo will slay them all!

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 10:49 PM

so you're all coming then, right?

Posted by siren festival | July 12, 2010 10:53 PM

I'm uncertain if I will go this year... Does anyone know if hummus is available on coney island? That will be the deal maker.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 11:01 PM

I'll be in VIP getting my drank on.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2010 11:02 PM

I think for a free lineup it's pretty damn good. I'm not going to play the "it's free, don't go if you don't like it" card, but I am going to point out that living in NY really does give you a shit ton of opportunities to see bands you like. Why complain? I mean, if Siren doesn't have the bands you like, I'm sure they'll be around in a couple of months. You can badtalk the lineup all you want, but seriously, I promise you'll get to see the bands you want later on. Just chill and stop ruining the fun for others.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2010 12:10 AM

If a bunch of turds bitching on a comment board ruins anybody's fun, those people weren't having fun to begin with.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2010 12:30 AM

Matt & Kim are bigger than Spoon when they headlined, not Spoon. New York Dolls do not do well anymore. Nothing against them as a band or their music, but people are not as interested in going out to see them as they are in going to see Matt & Kim.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2010 1:14 AM

"Matt & Kim are bigger than Spoon were when they headlined, not bigger than Spoon are now" (sorry)

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2010 1:15 AM

2 hipsters are headlining the festival. I'll pass.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2010 3:47 AM

Matt & Kim are bigger than Spoon when they headlined, not Spoon. New York Dolls do not do well anymore. Nothing against them as a band or their music, but people are not as interested in going out to see them as they are in going to see Matt & Kim.
^^
you need a history lesson buddy. no New York Dolls means no Spoon or anyone else relevant for that matter.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2010 10:25 AM

Anyone know how to get VIP wristbands? I had them a few years back and it spoiled me. I got in with a friend's band who was playing but I don't know anyone this year :(

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2010 11:07 AM

um, what's wrong with a "cake shop level" band? one of the best spots to see shows for the past five years now.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2010 1:32 PM

why are we talking about the new york dolls, theyre not playing?

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2010 1:42 PM

the comments section of Brooklyn Vegan is a cesspool of shitheads with garbage in their souls.

Posted by unclaimed smegma | July 13, 2010 2:44 PM

i heard the band from the free credit score commercials is going to be playing a surprise set

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2010 8:55 PM

what time does right said fred go on?

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2010 2:11 PM

omg! is 7:26 really someone that's got a hand in organizing this that thinks of himself as 'daddy' to all of us?

really think he's losing touch w/ the audience here.

Posted by chrysler5thavenue | July 16, 2010 5:28 PM

I think music industry has changed things are less centralized its no longer radio 4 and northern state. Ted Leo I want to see Matt and Kim i like live but would never buy a record. Pains of being pure at hart are such a blog band but im interested Pony Tail i hear is good

And screaming females Are really great

Posted by Anonymous | July 17, 2010 3:24 AM

2:44 hit the nail on the head...

You people are a bunch of soulless, jaded, hipster douche-bags. You guys talk so much turkey but if any of you had a musical project it would obviously suck balls. It's a shame Brooklyn has been over run with all you little twerps. Go back to Ohio or wherever it is you hail from. Btw... yeah, whatever with Earl Greyhound but this year's line-up was solid on both stages. Ted, Pains, Holy Fuck, Apache and Harlem were all great. Like it or not.

Posted by The Mirror | July 18, 2010 1:09 PM

Agree with 1:09. Despite the heat, had a great time and all the bands I saw were good. No complaints here.

Posted by Anonymous | July 18, 2010 2:06 PM

Posted by Cory | July 19, 2010 10:17 AM

This year's Siren was fantastic and I'm confused as to where all this class of '06 hating is coming from. Half these band's weren't even around or were just starting to get together at the time. Some twisted, bitter hipsters on here for sure. Ted Leo, Holy Fuck, Screaming Females, Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Apace Beat, Harlem.... all killed it! This year's line-up was way stronger than the last two years. '07 & '08 were total sleepers.
