Pitchfork

Hopefully all goes well with the HARD NYC show at Governors Island's South Island Field this Saturday (7/24). The show, which still has tickets on sale, will be happening despite the cancellation of its sister HARD LA show. The disappointing HARD LA cancellation came right after the disappointing lukewarm critical reaction to Maya (though Metacritic rates it as 69/100, so not so bad overall actually).

MIA, who is also playing the Virgin FreeFest this year, is on a lineup that includes Die Antwoord (who play the next night at MHOW) and Sleigh Bells, who just played Pitchfork Fest's third day.

A full list of who's at HARD NYC, with set times, and more pictures and some palpably sweaty videos of Sleigh Bells at the Pitchfork Festival (on the stage and in the crowd) are below...

More titties!!!

Why is she always rocking out on stage when on record she sings in the softest, quietest voice?

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2010 11:37 AM

So people willingly pay to hear them play over their CD?

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2010 11:43 AM

looks like he's over it.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2010 11:48 AM

God I bet she fucks like a tiger.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2010 11:49 AM

I....HATE...MIA. Is there a more self-agrandizing human? Doubtful. She preaches liberty, fighting wealth, and fighting oppressive government, but sells tickets for ungodly amounts and then makes a ton of $$$ herself.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2010 11:57 AM

Man, they really kinda sucked at Pitchfork. It was probably the set I was most anticipating, but it was way, way too quiet. There were people that were into it, but everyone standing in our area had pretty much the same reaction. Real letdown.

She was pretty funny, though, when she scolded the people who complained that the set was too short: "How many of you have our album? It's 32 minutes long! We don't have anything else! Go watch Pavement."

everyone at hard fest sucks. that is fact. Hard fest sucks hard cock.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2010 12:03 PM

Nice to see a Jackson Dinky in an indie rock fest.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2010 12:11 PM

may only switch over to "Harder Stage" for Ninjasonik and Borgore.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2010 12:12 PM

Posted by dar | July 21, 2010 12:24 PM

More bad tattoos. And shitty music. Who actually likes this crap?

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2010 12:26 PM

Posted by lame | July 21, 2010 12:29 PM

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2010 12:31 PM

Posted by david | July 21, 2010 12:41 PM

c'mon girl would 2 little 10 pound barbells on the bus hurt? a few curls and tricep excercises will get rid of that gross cellulite on and under your arms!

Posted by anon | July 21, 2010 12:44 PM

I kind of like this band. And I'd hit it and all, but people really got to stop going to shows without a proper band. The concept is absurd, its like listening to a crappy karaoke version of the CD. Unacceptable.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2010 12:47 PM

12:31 No, I just genuinely hate them, Anonymous.

Posted by LKJ | July 21, 2010 12:55 PM

booorrrrinngggggg!!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2010 12:55 PM

hey - floppy arms rock!

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2010 1:02 PM

got to say, I don't think I would

Posted by blackhat | July 21, 2010 1:10 PM

12:31, I can understand why this band makes sense to people, because it indulges in all the "guilty pleasures" of music fans with supposed taste, like Lady Gaga-style top 40 dance-pop and cheesy 80s metal riffs and mainstream hip-hop beats. But that music is all easily digestible garbage for people that don't have the time to really pay attention to their music. It's iPod music (certainly the clipped audio effects of the record are aware of that fact).

It is remedial.

These two clowns are buried in so many layers of irony, no one should be expected to take this seriously. Sleigh Bells is a satire of contemporary pop music, yet no one is in on the joke.

Posted by Wet Blanket | July 21, 2010 1:26 PM

They look good, but the music is junk. Third time I gave a listen to all of their myspace songs and came to the same conclusion.

Posted by Willy | July 21, 2010 1:29 PM

this band sucks

12:26-comment of the day

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2010 2:28 PM

it is complete trash. but i love it.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2010 2:42 PM

God I bet she fucks like a tiger.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2010 11:49 AM

No, this is the comment of the day.

Posted by d | July 21, 2010 2:48 PM

they might not be amazing musicians or genius songwriters, but they know how to have fun, something a lot of hipsters who make music seem to be lacking today.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2010 2:56 PM

But they must be good, Pitchfrok gave their album an 8.7, Best New Music

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2010 3:01 PM

I assumed most of the hating on these guys was just classic BV stuff. However, after watching 2 songs I was embarrassed to be standing there. All of their sound minus a light guitar riff is off of a tape loop and she either a- lip synchs or b- sings over the top of a tape.

I've never been so so disappointed in a band. Major Lazer should've closed that stage that night.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2010 3:12 PM

Jean Jacket? It's hot!

W.T.F. are the lyrics "have a heart etc, 666 etc" did her 6 month old baby write those for her? and how many times can you jump into the photo pit per show...this schtick gets old quick my friends!

Posted by anonymous | July 21, 2010 4:26 PM

absolute garbage

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2010 4:45 PM

Yeah, looks and onstage energy will only get you so far if you want to be a musician. You actually have to write songs and perform them.

Posted by LKJ | July 21, 2010 6:18 PM

Brooklyn was cool ... now that all the yupsters... moved there and started reading bv. time to move to canada.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2010 7:29 PM

I bet she goes home at Thanksgiving and explains her radical lifestyle to her adoring grandmother, maybe even over...a plate of HUMMUS!

Posted by LKJ | July 22, 2010 12:46 PM

hey at least its not more crappy chillwave lo-fi beach folk whatever-you-want-to-call-it crap, im sick of hearing that stuff.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2010 3:19 PM

The idea of being trapped on an island in 100 degree weather made me sell my tickets at a 40% loss. Dumb me for buying them in the first place.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2010 4:40 PM

Man the shit that you kids have to listen to. You should be ashamed. Oh that's right, You are.

Posted by Old Guy | July 24, 2010 2:50 PM

Hey man, not all of us like this shit.

Posted by Young Guy | July 24, 2010 3:45 PM

This is my first time hearing them, but I must be losing my mind, because those clips sure look like they rocked it.

Also, they're playing a lot more of it live than usual for that style of music...and when have electro lyrics ever been deep and meaningful? We can't all write "Date to Ikea".

Posted by lost mind | July 24, 2010 4:42 PM

this is way far after this post but i just saw them somewhere else for the first time so..

LKJ pretty much says it all
lost mind, no one ever said they had to be. but they dont have to live up to a standard of shit either, do they?
