Ted Leo @ Siren Fest (more by Dominick Mastrangelo)
Ted Leo

So the rumored headliner for the Sunday, August 1st Pool Party at Brooklyn Bowl isn't a rumor any more. Ted Leo and the Pharmacists will be headlining the free show - their second in Brooklyn in as many weeks. Also on the bill are two of Brooklyn's own, Darlings and ArpLine. The venue reports that doors are at noon, show at 6pm. It's not clear if the show is taking place outside, but it has been billed as a "block party" up until now.

Jelly also has music at the Rock Yard the day before, with Skeletons Big Band, Priestbird (do you remember what they used to be called?), Family Band and PC Worship.

Future Pavement opener Thee Oh Sees opened the bi-weekly venue on Saturday, July 17th. Download their set, recorded by Newtown Radio, here.

Ted Leo videos and the flyer for Saturday's Rock Yard show, and the flyer for the block party happening in Philly this weekend, are below...

Posted by Anon | July 29, 2010 6:26 PM

soooo lame

Posted by Anonymous | July 29, 2010 6:40 PM

fuck jelly. NO ONE is happy with them. get a company who can actually get worthwhile acts and do decent shows. there isn't another decent show left this fucking summer after last sunday.

Posted by Anonymous | July 29, 2010 6:55 PM

Ted Leo again...?

Posted by Anonymous | July 29, 2010 6:59 PM

so this was booked today I assume?

Posted by Anonymous | July 29, 2010 7:02 PM

"fuck jelly. NO ONE is happy with them. get a company who can actually get worthwhile acts and do decent shows. there isn't another decent show left this fucking summer after last sunday."

Let the entitlement begin. Only in NYC do people bitch about free shows. What do you do 6:55 that makes you so important? What have you done for me, the community or the borough? That's what I thought. Suck a dick.

"fuck jelly. NO ONE is happy with them. get a company who can actually get worthwhile acts and do decent shows. there isn't another decent show left this fucking summer after last sunday."

Easy answer. So don't go! Don't care so much about shows you don't want to go to.

Posted by Anonymous | July 29, 2010 7:07 PM

Based on set times this looks to be an indoor event and no longer a block party.

Posted by Anonymous | July 29, 2010 7:08 PM

Wow, Ted Leo. What a treat for everyone hoping to catch him for the 15th or 16th time.

Posted by Anonymous | July 29, 2010 7:10 PM

Jelly makes tens of thousands of dollars more money than they spend on these shows.

they do not deserve your sympathy or your charity

Posted by Anonymous | July 29, 2010 7:20 PM

Ted Leo is still good. I have seen him a ton of times and probably won't go on Sunday, but if I did, I am certain it would be worthwhile.

On a related note: what time do these Jelly Rock Yard things start? There is no time listed anywhere on that (awesome) flyer.

Posted by Anonymous | July 29, 2010 7:25 PM

JELLY NYC MAKES A LOT OF MONEY

THIS SHIT AIN'T FOR GOOD VIBES

YOU CAN AND SHOULD CRITICIZE THEM, JELLY NYC DO A SUCKY JOB

SO WHAT IF IT'S FREE. LOTS OF SHIT'S FREE. SPONSORS SPONSORS SPONSORS

Posted by Anonymous | July 29, 2010 7:26 PM

>Ted Leo is still good. I have seen him a ton
>of times and probably won't go on Sunday...

Exactly. Point proven.

Posted by Anonymous | July 29, 2010 7:26 PM

Ted Leo is the hipster version of Ben Folds.

Posted by Anonymous | July 29, 2010 7:33 PM

Summerstage and celebrate Brooklyn shows to avoid that hipster neighborhood!

Posted by Anon | July 29, 2010 7:36 PM

lmao at this line up. darlings is like the worst band ive ever heard. sometimes i sing that "cool man great girl" song to myself and laugh out loud. hahahaha COOL MAN GREAAT GIIRL

Posted by Anonymous | July 29, 2010 7:42 PM

I guess the "block party" is in reference to the line that will be forming outside Brooklyn Bowl.

Posted by Anonymous | July 29, 2010 7:43 PM

yeah @743 good one! mean it!

Posted by Anonymous | July 29, 2010 7:49 PM

I could watch TL&Rx every fucking day.

Best live band of our generation.

Posted by Anonymous | July 29, 2010 7:52 PM

That said, I just saw him so I don't need to see him on Sunday.

Posted by Anonymous | July 29, 2010 7:57 PM

Ted Leo is the hipster version of Ben Folds.

wrong.

Posted by Anonymous | July 29, 2010 8:02 PM

FYI Jelly is actually barely breaking even on all of these summer shows thanks to osa, so most likely this will be the last year any of this will happen.

So don't worry, they won't ruining all of your weekends next summer with their obnoxious free shows and parties. Thank god!

Posted by Anonymous | July 29, 2010 8:03 PM

*be ruining

Posted by Anonymous | July 29, 2010 8:04 PM

Doors at 12 and show @ six??? Really? How obnoxious! So you pretty much have to show up at what...2 or 3 to have any chance of seeing Teddy boy go on at 9...hmmm..wonder what you'll do with all that time...spend money maybe...

Posted by Scott | July 29, 2010 8:17 PM

i be doin all kinds of shit. i don't give a fuck.

Posted by Anonymous | July 29, 2010 8:21 PM

i like ted leo.

Posted by Anonymous | July 29, 2010 8:55 PM

I thought Ben Folds was the hipster version of Ben Folds?

Posted by Megan | July 29, 2010 8:55 PM

so i'm guessing we'll learn where exactly this is taking place at about 11:30 AM Sunday morning, right?

Posted by Anonymous | July 29, 2010 9:05 PM

brooklyn bowl opens at 12 per usual on sunday. ted leo goes on at 9

Posted by Anonymous | July 29, 2010 9:09 PM

"so this was booked today I assume?"

Ted Leo just tweeted:

"FYI, we got asked last minute to play a free show at Brooklyn Bowl this Sunday. Starts at 6 PM, we're on at 9, come on down!"

so, yes, basically.

Posted by Anonymous | July 29, 2010 10:13 PM

"So don't worry, they won't ruining all of your weekends next summer with their obnoxious free shows and parties. Thank god!"

I know you meant this ironically but THANK GOD. Hope Jelly goes down in flames. Marketing morons piggybacking on hipster culture with no concept of how to organize an outdoor show while exploiting free, public space deserve to go bankrupt. Fuck y'all Jelly!!!

Posted by Anonymous | July 29, 2010 10:43 PM

if brendan canty shows up to play merchandise, im gonna flip a shit.

Posted by Anonymous | July 29, 2010 11:09 PM

Well said, 7:26. The sad part is, you know the people defending them here aren't even the people seeing that money, but rather the low level volunteers who think they're being "part of the community" or whatever because they have VIP passes and get free Red Bull.

Though I will say that Jelly did seem to get a lot better lineups back in the McCarren glory days--it just seems the combination of the venue shift, increasing mainstreaming of it (compare number of bros you see there now compared to a few years ago), and city/state bureaucracy has really killed what it used to be.

You are a self righteous, stupid cunt. I hope the sucking daddy's cock thing works out for you.

He looks like Jerry Seinfeld in that photo.

ftw

"He looks like Jerry Seinfeld in that photo."

Now c'mon. That's uncalled for.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2010 1:09 AM

I am a simple anonymous man... I don't claim to be an expert on music, but I do consider myself an expert hummus chef.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2010 1:09 AM

can we all just simmer down and laugh at darlings. cool man great girl hahahaha

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2010 2:02 AM

I saw darlings at the whitney museum last week and they were great. Best band on this bill

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2010 8:34 AM

Why all the hate for Ted Leo? Did your parents not send you a rent check this month? Or did you hip wastes of skin finally realize that you all serve no fucking purpose on this planet? Here's a tip: In the real world, if you complain about something as cool as a free show with good, hardworking bands like TL/Rx you sound like a spoiled fucking child. Go back to Ohio where you all belong.

Posted by Fernando | July 30, 2010 8:36 AM

or White Plains

I don't live in the real world. I live in my own world, but it's ok they know me here.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2010 8:53 AM

^ I saw that on a shirt at Hot Topic when I was 12, I assume you wear it ironically?

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2010 8:57 AM

he kinda looks like Seinfeld in this pic.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2010 9:32 AM

and what's the deal with all the rude boys?

Props to 7:33 - Great comment!

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2010 10:47 AM

Shut up. Really. Ted is one of the hardest working dudes out there. Always puts on a free show. Stop bitching. Ask mom and dad for more loot to aid yr coke habit

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2010 10:48 AM

Not of these assholes have done an original thing in their lives so they have to resort to mocking their betters. You're all fucking clowns and will end up on latfh.com one day if you aren't there already

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2010 11:12 AM

glad I wasn't the only one who saw the Seinfeld resemblance

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2010 11:48 AM

it should be noted that all the cool people that worked for jelly quit (not because of at the same time as) when they moved out of mccarren pool

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2010 11:53 AM

Cool people working at jelly? Does anyone know how many people actually work for jelly? Can I work for jelly? I have a nose, a number, and a twenty. Does that help?

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2010 12:05 PM

Fuck Jelly. They come to Brooklyn and only do shit for corny white people from the midwest. They might as well have signs outside their parties that say "No niggers or spics allowed". Fuck them and all their honky bullshit music. God forbid they actually support a music act that isnt the same played-out guitar/bass/drummer/"singer" lineup. Cant you white people ever listen to a sound that hasnt been done 125,000,000 times before? I dont know how you can even tell all these shitty honky bands apart

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2010 1:54 PM

Is Brooklyn Bowl totally packed?

Insane line to get in I assume?

Posted by mike | August 1, 2010 4:21 PM

BK Bowl never had a line. Not even at 8:55PM, which is when I showed up. The venue wasn't even at capacity at that point. Jelly really dropped the ball this year.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2010 12:24 AM

liars. it was at capacity. line outside. if you went out to have a smoke, you couldn't get back in.
