It's so painful to listen to the Swell Season knowing all the great music Glen did with the Frames.

Does anyone know if the Lincoln Center Out Doors Festival afterparty is open to all or only for the bands? At the New York Night Train site they announce it: http://www.newyorknighttrain.com/
But they say nothing about it at the fest site: http://new.lincolncenter.org/live/index.php/lc-ood-2010

Anybody remember the loooooooong line for Sonic Youth at Central Park? They play so often in NY, no point wasting hours in line just to see them.

Rescue Bird!

sonic youth prospect park set times eh?
Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2010 11:11 AM
central park is a MUCH smaller venue than the bandshell.
Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2010 11:30 AM
Central Park does not have as much obstructed view as Prospect Park. The soundboard and all the trees get in the way, so if you don't get there early for a seat, you won't see much.

Anyone know set times for Nas tonight?
Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2010 3:27 PM
@2:42, you got lucky with the chairs! I got in at virtually exactly the same time as you but all I saw were some scattered singles - I was with a friend though and didn't want to sit apart. Did get a nice spot right behind the chairs though so it was still an excellent view, just that it was standing.

THE MOST OVERRATED BAND IN THE HISTORY OF ANYTHING.

jes has a point, sonic youth are indeed a really shitty band.
Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2010 10:46 PM
The Ponderosa Stomp was great!
Even after Death and The Gories, ? and the Mysterians played a killer set. Otis Redding cover, tons of hip shaking and a duet with Ronnie Spector on 96 Tears. ? is probably twice as old as anybody in the National, but he has twice the energy.
Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2010 11:05 PM
115 minutes of Spiritualized last night
100 minutes of Sonic youth tonight
Two of the best shows of summer!
Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2010 11:48 PM
sonic youth show: wow! such an amazing live act. when they release an album, they do the album; when they don't, they play every single favorite you can think of. and they kick ass on all of them.
Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2010 11:49 PM
The Ponderosa Stomp was killer! Lincoln Center park was without question the place to have been tonight!
Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2010 11:55 PM
Sonic Youth play so much in the NYC area, who really cares anymore?
Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2010 11:56 PM
"Sonic Youth play so much in the NYC area, who really cares anymore?"
your mom does. she was grinding on my leg during shaking hell.

Sonic Youth show tonight was great. Newest thing they played was Mote. They just tore through those old songs.

Dear lord! 15 minute wait to get into the Sonic Youth show and then all of Daydream Nation
Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2010 12:17 AM
I showed up at Sonic Youth just as the band launched into the first song, "Candle." After being denied entry at both gates, I hopped a fence and was in. Phenomenal show.

BIG HATS OFF to BRIC for an incredibly well organized show. So good.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2010 2:10 AM
Anyone who's trying to play like they're too cool for Sonic Youth can suck it because you missed a fucking incredible show!!!
Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2010 2:18 AM
People that rave about a free Sonic Youth show in the Summer in NYC at this point in the game must not go out much, or are too young and new to the city to have sen the fifteen billion other local shows they've played here in the last twenty years..
I'm sure it was good, but rellay... big deal.
Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2010 9:31 AM
Would have liked to have seen Sonic Youth, but the Ponderosa Stomp lineup was too good to be missed. SY play NYC all the time.
Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2010 9:52 AM
^^ You guys are just jealous after seeing the set list. You missed it, dudes, too bad. It was a big deal, and I can say that even watching and listening from behind the fence.
Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2010 10:03 AM
It's funny how most of the people saying bad things about this show weren't even there.
Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2010 10:49 AM
12:52 Absolutely! After waiting hours in line for Jelly shows, BRIC showed how it really can be done. Such a good job
Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2010 11:00 AM
nas and damian marley brought it- unbelievable show and it was loud too.
Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2010 11:06 AM
9:31 I've lived here my whole life and seen SY about 16 times, and every single time feels as if were the first time. They are so good at what they do that everytime I see them it feels new. I"m sorry. You don't feel that anymore.
Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2010 11:38 AM
It's cool SY went back and did these songs instead of a more The Eternal based set.
Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2010 11:44 AM
Some of you just aren't ambitious enough. I saw Death and The Gories @ Lincoln Center and still made it to Prospect Park for Sonic Youth!
Posted by seanc | August 1, 2010 12:07 PM
I considered doing that, but I knew that Prospect Park would be full by the time I got there (and it was). Besides, that meant you missed ? and the Mysterians, which had the best set.
Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2010 12:09 PM
V. nize SY setlist - but what was all this Tweet/etc. elsewhere noting "OMG! They're playing/played DAYDREAM NATION ..." Well, yep, a fine no. of DN songs but not like an album sets obv. Too: no "Kotton Krown," ah well. (When will they kick down a SISTER set? Ever?) Haters, snarky youth and fashionably jaded old farts, fack off: Sonic always delivers ...
Posted by D*Star | August 1, 2010 12:16 PM
BTW, only reason no go to free SY: free Death/ Gories/ ?+Mysterians/ Mitch Ryder+Detroit Wheels. So, what did this above mean:
"...free gories show < free sonic youth show.
Anyone who feels differently is a jerk"
So, free Gories is lesser to free SY? So wrong. Gories are historic, limited opp. reunion, etc. - and rest of late Ponderosa set ruled too. Even lots of Mitch compelled, esp'ly when covering Prince and Lou Reed, etc. Somebody's either got a) lame assessment skills; b) rusty elem. school arithmetic sign skills ...
Posted by D*Star | August 1, 2010 12:25 PM
@12:07pm - i agree with you...i caught central park earlier in the day and was in prospect park at night...no reason to miss out
Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2010 12:53 PM
".i caught central park earlier in the day and was in prospect park at night..."
You went to see Jovanotti? Seriously?!?
"no reason to miss out"
You mean besides the Ponderosa Stomp ending after 9pm?
Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2010 1:28 PM
Sorry I missed that SY show. That set list is crazy. Ponderosa Stomp was great, though.
Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2010 2:10 PM

" and I can say that even watching and listening from behind the fence."
ha ha ha. then you missed it too.
Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2010 10:16 PM
"It's funny how most of the people saying bad things about this show weren't even there."
Right. Because we've seen Sonic Youth in NYC parks for free for two decades. So when there was a better bill uptown it was a no brainer. All the smart cool people were at the Ponderosa Stomp! Killer!
