..."New York is creating a two-tier system," said Geoffrey Croft of New York City Park Advocates, a frequent critic of the Parks Department.PREVIOUSLY: Final Pool Party cancelled, OSA blatantly blames/hates Jelly"The nightmare is that all these deals are going on behind closed doors and that people are taking city dollars away from other parks," Croft said.
The situation is unusual. Although it is not uncommon for the city and nonprofits to hire from the same pool of advocates and experts, it is extremely rare for people to work for both at the same time....
...In 2008, Stephanie Thayer became director of the Open Space Alliance for North Brooklyn - and the Parks Department's director of North Brooklyn Parks.
Records show Thayer got $86,528 from the city. She said her work for the nonprofit is voluntary.
"I'm still fighting the good fight," she said. "I'm just doing it in a different way."
Figuring out which hat Thayer is wearing has created frustration among some park advocates.
Laura Hofmann, a member of Open Space's steering committee, said Thayer spurned her when she tried to find out how many trees would be planted in a new park.
"She basically told me you have to trust the Parks Department and you have no business asking for this kind of information," Hofmann said.

Jelly is great when tossing salads. Otherwise, I have no use for it.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2010 10:50 AM
they both and all suck, its all their faults, blame to easily go around, everyone made tons of money
Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2010 10:52 AM
The OSA is a crock of shit. I'm glad BV is starting to uncover some dirt on them. Keeep digging BV. You should try to get Stephanie to do an interview.
Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2010 10:57 AM
Thanks for asking BV to post this, Jelly. This completely rectifies all your bullshit.
Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2010 10:58 AM
Totally agree 10:50am! They're horrible and I don't know why such talented people such as David Byrne and Bjork would like them....
I don't see what's so appealing about that band.
P.S. Are renovations being done at McCareen this summer anyway? Not complaining about free shows that Jelly put together this year (just b/c Cap n' Jazz show) but it wasn't the same as the years in the past....
I mean didn't we get bands like Liars, Man Man, the Breeders, Octopus Project and etc for free in the past few years? Those were good times:)
Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2010 10:59 AM
yeah Huge conflict of interest working for parks AND raising money for parks
Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2010 10:59 AM
In the end....this year OSA booked better shows and Jelly booked worse shows.
Good luck next year Jelly!

Actually.....Summerstage and Celebrate Brooklyn shows > OSA > Jelly
Who will we get next year for free summer shows?!
Let's start guessing!
Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2010 11:01 AM
BEER JAIL
Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2010 11:04 AM
Jelly yous got to chillax about what anonymous people say on message boards.
You know the concert promotin business isn't for everyone, best of luck in your new professions/paying off that sweet ol debt you piled up.
Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2010 11:08 AM
It is indeed a conflict of interest. I do not know yet how it came to this black spot.
Posted by piese auto online | August 18, 2010 11:10 AM
OSA didn't book any shows. The ticket ones were done by AEG.
Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2010 11:15 AM
The OSA logo is kind of like a tampon.

"OSA didn't book any shows. The ticket ones were done by AEG."
yeah, I second that. Whoever thinks OSA does anything but beg for money after shows is confused. AEG and Jelly book all shows. OSA ask for money and plant grass. State police arrest people for smoking the grass.

Dear Jelly,
Thank you for trying to drag my name into all of your bullshit. I look forward to explaining this situation to my future employers and clients when they google my name.
Love and kisses,

Jelly will boot this cunt Hooper and prevail in a newer better space where they can make cool shit happen without OSA. Some of these other shows (Summerstage Celebrate BK etc.) are good, but there's nothing "COOL" about them compared to the old pool parties. Jelly's biggest mistake was thinking that working with OSA would some how work out... Those greedy CUNTS like that saggy bag hag above ^^^ are the WORST! And this is definitely not their scene. They know nothing about anything other than maximizing profits for themselves and CONTROL.
All of these other shows will do what they do... Throw big "saturday in the park" type shows. Jelly, or some of Jelly, will do something at a different capacity or at the same capacity in a different space. This is obviously not their first rodeo.

Jelly, while you're nervously scanning these comments, I want you to get high and think about life and what you're doing right now and how you're feeling right now and maybe this industry just isn't for you guys.

BV,
OSA should have to file with the New York City Conflict of Interest Board.
http://www.nyc.gov/html/conflicts/html/home/home.shtml
It also files with the Attorney General Charities Bureau.

Why don't you do some real work rather than regurgitating shit about non-existent conflicts of interest that you wipe your ass with from the Daily News!

11:40 works for Jelly
Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2010 11:48 AM
This OSA posting merely finger pointedly distracts from the real story: Jelly.
NO reporter, Ben Sisario from the NYT and NPR journalists included, has had the GUTS to dig and expose the truth about where Jelly has been getting its money -and- where it has been placing its money. Answers are found, dear journalists, by tracking a lead to its very last branch-able source. Not by regurgitating hackneyed predictable sugar-glazed shit without new investigatory probes.
We live in an age of people who are all too willing to believe in veneers, thin and semi-obvious though they might be. Develop some journalistic balls. Get nosy. Delve deeper. Summon your inner Paul Auster. Let the public know about what the rest of 'us' have known about Jelly for some time. You'd have a story worthy of national newspapers.
The public also might not realize that Jelly is known throughout the music industry, editorial world, sponsorship realm and Parks Department for its beautiful lies and false promises. But this wasn't always the case. The first few years of the Pool Parties were great! So sad that they deteriorated. Perhaps because Jelly wasn't always exclusively run by two trust fund know-it-nothings with no biz nor music industry expertise, blatantly obvious drug habits, untrustworthy actions and stubborn hipper-than-thou tastes and attitudes.
P.S. I do not work for nor have I ever worked for Jelly or OSA

11:54 - Who cares? Why does it matter where Jelly spends money or whatever they do whenever? Who cares about any of this? National news? Maybe for people like you loser.

"Who cares? Why does it matter where Jelly spends money or whatever they do whenever? Who cares about any of this? National news? Maybe for people like you loser."
Dear Jelly,
The public would and should care if it knew its bail-out tax dollars were paying for your so-called free shows.
Love and kisses,
XOX

@12:00 due to the fact that there was no hummus reference in 11:54's comment, i suppose this caused you to completely miss the point.

Does this all have to do with the stolen computer?

I just feel bad for the bands that get suckered into working for these fuckups.

Dear OSA and Stephanie,
How about instead of putting on shows (and not filing your tax returns on time) you clean the fucking bathrooms at McCarren? And you know, maybe have the lawn cut there more then once a month?
XOXO,
New Yorkers

OSA & Jelly = Dumb and Dumber
Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2010 1:49 PM
Jumping on the bandwagon to say that I don't work for either Jelly or OSA (though at this point no one will believe that anyway)
but Jelly has always been run by the same two people, ever since 2006. They were fucked from the start this year. As much as I DID love attending these shows, they really should've ended in 2008.
Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2010 1:51 PM
Partially right 1:51. There were several more co-founders. They all quit years ago. Jelly changed accordingly.

2:00- I'm 1:51 and you're right. There were other co- founders but Sarah Hooper and Alex Kane have been the main people in charge. The people who were once on board made the right decision in quitting while they were ahead.
The sad thing is that Jelly has simply lost every single loyalty they ever had. No one's going to want to help them now. Such a shame since McCarren was such a great thing.
