"Dr Dog @ Governors Island ruled and was free, the way i wish all shows could be." - Nick Harvey

Dr. Dog. Eli 'Paperboy" Reed & Chief made up the lineup of the semi-rainy free Converse Gone to Governors show at Governors Island Sunday night (8/15) (one night after Neon Indian headlined the same space). A set of pictures from the show, continues below...

hippies? yeah, because hipsters, mullet headed metal heads and wal-mart shopping tea partying cw fans are so much more desirable.

"Dr Dog @ Governors Island ruled and was free, the way i wish all shows could be"
Strongly disagree. Free shows attract scenesters, wannabees, and casual fans. Real fans will gladly pay money. Charge even $5 and all the riff raff will be gone.

i fucking hate those drawstring backpacks.
Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2010 4:59 PM
awesome pictures, especially of the last set!

You hate drawstring backpacks because why? They clash with your fanny pack?
Grow up and get a hate on something more important. These guys aren't hippies. They're one of the best live bands out there.
Wanker #2 or same one?

I thought we were all Americans and not grouped into different subcultures reflecting the music we're into and the clothes we wear. Whatever happened to that idea? Its probably gone with the rest of the morals of the youth in America.
Here's a thought, it was a free show! Sure, maybe some people deemed "hippies" wouldn't of went to it if it costed them money. But what about the other "wanna bees" who shop on canal street and wear knock off designer whatever (people who are your definitions of wanna bees). Would they not go to the free shows too?
People just don't go to places because they're free. Sure 10 dollars (plus ticketmaster's lame "processing fee") for a concert ticket maybe a little out of some peoples budget, but for most of the audience in attendance Sunday were there because they wanted to see Dr. Dog. I'm sure they weren't there people watching and wondering why you morons were there. I bet they didn't even notice your existence unless you were blatantly staring at them.

Oh and by the way the pictures are amazing! I would love to have seen you do the Local Natives show last weekend. The atmosphere was so great, I hope we always have Governors Island.

"theyre not hippies but their record label is"
Anti? You mean the label whose biggest artist is Tom Waits? total hippies!
Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2010 8:01 PM
so much patchouli at this show!
Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2010 8:23 PM
I like hippies... They usually have good weed and vegan snacks (like hummus) in those backpacks.

for anyone who saw dr. dog play at T5 in may, this setlist was basically an exact repeat. i wish they could try to work in at least a couple of older songs into their sets. eli reed kicks ass.

Survey says: Hippies!
Posted by Anonymous | August 17, 2010 10:41 AM
everybody chut up, no hippiez were there
Posted by Anonymous | August 17, 2010 1:08 PM
weird how people just seem to write or call out "hippies"...what? who cares. For Arcade Fire or whatever reviews do people remark "hipsters!"
funny how people are drawn to labels. I just listen to the music. And it's usually psych rock. Maybe indie, maybe sometimes "hippie" or maybe even hipster! wow! jesus who cares. Dr. Dog kicks ass live.
