Dr. Dog

"Jerry Douthett was initially very angry with his pet Jack Russell after his pet pooch ran up to him and chomped off his big toe -- but after going to hospital to treat the wound, it appears his furry best friend has actually saved his life.

Douthett, a 48-year-old musician from Rockford, USA, had an infection in his foot for weeks, but hadn't wanted to seek any medical care for it, but after coming back home after a night out drinking and celebrating, Kiko, his dog, thought it best to take matters into his own hands. Or mouth, as it turned out.

Unbeknownst to Mr Douthett, he was in fact suffering from undiagnosed Type 2 diabetes, and the condition is now being treated thanks to his faithful friend's seemingly unfaithful act.

And if you were worrying how exactly the canine 'operation' occurred, don't worry -- Douthett was so drunk he has passed out on his sofa. At which point Dr Dog, who knew some free anesthetic when he saw some, took the opportunity to bite off the big toe." [Asylum]

Dr. Dog headline the free show on Governors Island tonight (8/15). If you can't be there, you can always stream it live on ConverseRadio.com.

Like the Walkmen, Dr. Dog played a set at the XPoNential Music Festival in July. A set of pictures from that show continues, along with a video of the band playing inside NPR's office, below...

Does anyone know if Converse plans to do another "Gone To Governors" series next summer, or if there may be similar shows next summer? They were really great, a highlight of the summer, and I'm going to miss them.

hippies were a sub-culture from the 1960s... dr. dog is group of musicians from the 2000s.

in age of the internet everyone has something to say, is it b/c its so very easy to sit on yr rump and pick at your fingers. try doing something.
-------------(o but i am who are you to say im not) i am the same person (just as credible as you) though iam not
using hippie, as a perjorative, as i think you are is a label.

do you like to be labeled? having a connotation of being able to be sold?

i didnt think so.
