We're not 100% who's playing The Rock Shop on August 18, but I couldn't help notice that the date is the day before Dean Wareham plays Galaxie 500 songs at Bowery Ballroom and that opener Tyburn Saints recently posted a Galaxie 500 video to their facebook page. $5 Tickets are on sale now.
Meanwhile, Dean & Britta play a free show this Sunday in Phoenicia, NY.

Yes it is just Dean Wareham and his band warming up the night before the Bowery show.
For anyone who might think this is a full Galaxie 500 reunion, enjoy that fantasy till you wake up. That is never going to happen.

I'm sick and tired of these secret shows that don't need to be a secret.

I guess but I'm tired of getting all excited thinking it's going to be someone huge and it turns out to be Jermaine Jackson doing a set at the Bowery under the fake name of Whogivesaratsass?

You obviously know nothing about the history of Galaxie 500 and the relationship between Dean and Damon and Naomi. If you did you would not imagine a Galaxie 500 reunion for a second.

Dean has been a pretty brilliant guitarist and songwriter throughout his career but you gotta be honest - this is the last gasp. Let me track the progression for you:
Original Legendary Band>>>Decent, respectable follow-up band>>>Dubious solo career with wife as partner>>>Playing Original Legendary Band Songs Without Original Band, With wife partner
Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2010 2:14 AM
^^ that's still a pretty damn good progression. How many people can actually compare to that? not many.
Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2010 2:38 AM
Plus, his wife is pretty damn hot. Still.

Dean is still pretty amazing. I mean look at Springsteen or Billy Joel or Green Day they play the same hits at every show. Why can't Dean play some Galaxie songs?

I think Dean is making his best records right now. The Dean & Britta years ring true.

Dean should've been playing Galaxie 500 songs during the Luna years. He wrote them, why not?
Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2010 12:42 PM
He used to play Fourth of July with Luna

This better be worth my $5
Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2010 3:03 PM
I can't believe tickets are still on sale for this.

Tickets are sold out, duh.

luna was better than springsteen, joel and green day. in fact his new band doing 13 songs is better than a combined bill of all 3.

confirmed: jermaine jackson will be playing
Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2010 12:17 AM
faaaaaaaaahk. is there any way at all to still get tickets? so bummed.

Yes! This is going to be an amazing show. New, small venue. Great opening band! Tyburn Saints are my new favorite Brooklyn band. They will be head-lining here very soon.
