DOWNLOAD: Wild Nothing - Golden Haze (MP3)

Wild Nothing

There's a lot going on in Wild Nothing's world. The band, who hail from Blacksburg, VA, are packing their bags and moving to Brooklyn. Not really surprising, except that it took this long. They also have a new EP, Golden Haze, coming out on Captured Tracks sometime in the near future. Apart from the title cut (which you can download above), tracklistings on the CD, 12" and digital versions will vary, which reminds me of the way they used to release multiple versions of UK CD singles in the '90s to get a higher chart position. Fun with formats, or milking the fans? I guess if all the songs are worth hearing it won't matter.

No matter which one you buy, "Golden Haze" is another sparkler from these guys who have been playing a lot of new songs at their shows. And if you haven't picked up their debut Gemini yet, I think it's one of the year's best. And with a permanent line-up (and a new, really solid drummer), Wild Nothing have been a really good live band too. [Bill]

Wild Nothing co-headlined (headlined) a show with their label boss's band Blank Dogs at Bowery Ballroom on Saturday night. The all-Captured Tracks bill also featured sets by MINKS and Cosmetics. It was sold out. Pictures from Wild Nothing's set are in this post.

On September 22nd Wild Nothing will leave on a tour with Stars who they'll support through October 9th in Detroit. That trip includes the September 24th show at Terminal 5 in NYC (tickets still on sale), which will actually be Wild Nothing's 2nd NYC show after today because they also open for Superchunk at Music Hall of Williamsburg on September 19th (Todd Barry is also on that sold out bill).

"Mare" with the racetrack is the best album of the year

best. band. EVER!

Here's my imitation of you this time next year, 10:54

"The wild who?"

Posted by Anonymous | August 30, 2010 11:03 PM

@11:03

10:54 here, and you're right.
I'm already so over The Wild Who. I only care about hipster-hop now! It makes me feel . . . I dunno . . . edgy. So bye-bye to the snooze cruise that is Wild Nuthin'. Burr! I'm going to sip on this lemonade. Ya heard?

I can't wait til music is so bankrupt of talent that John Cage's silent works are all the rage.

Also, your sunglasses make you look like a fucking twat

sunglasses, what?

boy, yo titties like an orange in a sock

Kind of a bummer that bands are so quick to leave their towns and predictably move to Brooklyn. Whatever happened to fostering and nurturing a scene of your own? Athens, anyone?

Posted by david | August 31, 2010 9:26 AM

one of the worst crowds i have seen in recent memory!

what's up with the constant texting throughout the show?? can't people just watch the performance without checking their phone.

to the three prepubescent girls who elbowed their way to the front.. you're not hot -- especially when you're dancing like you're on stage at a strip club. get over yourselves.

wild nothing was painfully average. his vocals were weak on stage, and the band had absolutely no charm or chemistry. shame since the album is a stunner.

Blacksburg , VA isn't even Athens.....

Also in regards to Athens, if you are speaking of REM most of them moved out after their first gold record and none of their peers from the "scene" never amounted to anything really except for B52's who preceded them (and left Athens even faster then REM)

sounds like you went to the show pissed off. relax man, it was a fun time, his vocals were definitely not weak. my only complaint was that it was a really short set. but he doesn't have that many songs yet i guess.

Oh get the fuck over yourselves. He is like what 22? I saw the gig and enjoyed it. The sound was good and the vocals are supposed to be weak. I think the LP is OK, but live was way better. God just going fucking up a few posts and hang out with the douchey folk at PS1 will you...

Nothing > Wild Nothing

Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2010 11:52 AM

9:52 sucks, complaining about texting then complaining about people having fun? GTFO.

Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2010 12:12 PM

Texting at shows is definitely not OK. Keeps me from enjoying the show. Wild nothing are awesome, tho!

left early. I like the album, but this was a Boring.Ass.Show. Vocals are never supposed to be weak, dipshit. Fragile, sure. But not straight up pitchy and unemotional.

There was just no band chemistry at all. Definitely not ready for the Bowery stage. Sad cus the album is pretty good.

Posted by anonermouse | August 31, 2010 2:02 PM

how much chemistry can you have with a band that's only been playing ONE MAN's songs for a few months. i thought they sounded great, but that's just me. i had a fun time.

Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2010 2:13 PM

2:02

Uh dipshit, there are million bands based on weak, unemotional vocals from the last 20 years. shut the fuck up and go listen to kelly clarkson.

nobody cares about your take on music.

Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2010 3:06 PM

hell 40 years

Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2010 3:06 PM

way too similar to beach fossils. i predict the same backlash after a few bad shows/line-up changes. flash in the pan again.

Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2010 4:04 PM

vocals are supposed to be weak? what??? when an album is in tune and live it's not, you're telling me it's supposed to be that way? i had fun, but the vocals were weak, whoever said that.

Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2010 4:16 PM

it's the american disease, we put up with lousy vocals, but I thought the bassist was worse, he couldn't keep up with the tempo of the songs. Anyway way too early for them to be headlining the Bowery. but this is what happens when the hype doesn't allow you to evolve as a band and thrusts you into the limelight way too early.

Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2010 4:45 PM

Headlining the Bowery and playing Terminal 5 later this tour. It was about 20 minutes ago when they were an opening band at fucking Monster Island.

"Kind of a bummer that bands are so quick to leave their towns and predictably move to Brooklyn. Whatever happened to fostering and nurturing a scene of your own? Athens, anyone?"

i've never even heard this band but honestly this is total BS. assuming you live in brooklyn, why not stay wherever you are from and add to the economy there? if you are from a shitty place why not move to NY?!

Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2010 5:50 PM

oh, come on, it's not like they're headlining terminal 5, 4:57.
