Wolf Parade @ the 2010 Pitchfork Festival (more by Kate Gardiner)
Wolf Parade

Seattle Times: What do you mean in "Yulia" with the lyric "The radio sings a patriot song / it's the devil that you know"? Are you talking about government propaganda in mainstream pop music?

Dan: Actually that was government propaganda in late-1960s USSR. That song is one of the most topical-fiction songs that I've written. I watched this great documentary on the Soviet space program called "The Red Stuff," and they're interviewing this woman. I forget her actual name, but for the song I changed her name to Yulia. She's talking about how her husband was lost in this failed attempt to land a Soviet space capsule on the moon before the Americans. They overshot their orbit, and are presumably still floating in space. She was listening the radio broadcast, and then it cut out. I guess when mission control found out the capsule was a goner, they started playing patriotic music over the radio, and that was the moment she knew her husband was gone. Amazing documentary, totally worth watching. It's downloadable.

Wolf Parade will head back out on the road this fall. First Europe and then Russia, and then on November 3rd they kick off a North American tour at the Wellmont Theatre in Montclair, NJ. Never been there, is Wellmont > Terminal 5? It's the first night of the US tour, sure would be nice to see them booked at MHOW or Bowery.

way better than T5. and way more of a pain to get to/from

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2010 5:35 PM

wish they could jus play bowery or music hall 3 nights

is it true that someone farted in the pit at arcade fire night 2 during the beginning of "intervention"? because i think wolf parade should worry the same thing will happen to them when they're in town!!!

don't feel like trekking out to jersey. wish they would just do a few nights at a smaller venue in nyc.

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2010 6:45 PM

fart dude i sorry for u bro, no one likes immature freaks who cry for attention

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2010 10:03 PM

I hate to suggest it, but it seems plausible: Could the Arcade Dire/Twent Weznor/Fart Guy/Humous Dude be one and the same?

Why would a band do multiple nights at a smaller venue instead of one night at a bigger venue? They lose money if they are in hotels and not on the road.

They played T5 last time, and will again.

I seak so long, but not tried, because of you, so long, and lovely, like you, God bless you.

not a fan of trekking to montclair. they'll play nyc again.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2010 7:51 AM

trekking to jersey is way more palatable than ever going to T5 again.

they kicked total ass at pitchfork. The last time I saw them before that show was the sub pop showcsase in 2005.

I really want to see them again but I really do not like the thought of heading to Montclair (even though I am curious of what wellmont sounds like)

Going to Philly. Wellmont is horrendous.

i just watched "The Red Stuff" and there is no mention of that story of the lost spacecraft at all, it never happened. Still, makes for an interesting song though.
