Lou Barlow on stage with Dinsaur Jr at Bowery (more by Vincent Cornelli)
Lou Barlow

The previously mentioned Lou Barlow & The Missingmen/Wye Oak tour hits Mercury Lounge TONIGHT (9/1, tickets), one of two NYC-area dates for tour-mates. On Saturday (9/4), the pair will play an early show at Maxwell's (tickets) before the venue hosts The Greenhornes/The Black Hollies later that night (tickets). The Greenhornes play a show at Mercury Lounge while they're here too, and it's free (Greenhornes also play ATP NY over the weekend).

Meanwhile Lou Barlow and the great Dinosaur Jr will play support for a pretty incredible ATP show overseas. The event, which will see them perform Bug in its entirety, will also see Deerhoof play all of Milk Man as support for...

On the 1st July 2011 The Flaming Lips will perform their seminal classic The Soft Bulletin as part of ATP Concerts Don't Look Back season. On the album's release in 1999 it was hailed by critics as 'The Pet Sounds of the 90s', receiving adulation from fans and writers alike, topping many year end charts and spawning two classic singles ('Waiting For A Superman', 'Race For The Prize') and going on to influence countless bands. In 2003 Pitchfork placed the album as the third best album of the 1990s alongside Radiohead's OK Computer and My Bloody Valentine's Loveless.
I knew it was just a matter of time before it happened. For those of you willing to hop the pond, tickets are on sale Friday 9/3 at 10AM.

Speaking of ATP, the countdown to ATP NY is on its last legs, and the festival (that Flaming Lips, Deerhoof and Dinosaur Jr. all played last year or the year before) has announced set times. Raekwon direct support? Sleep headlining OVER Iggy Pop? Discuss/love/hate and check out times below.

if only all these bands weren't playing headlining shows in the city, i would be there... but i'd rather see all the bands headline and Sleep x2 sounds great...

Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2010 11:14 AM

i wanna see the rolling stones play "dirty work" in its entirety. make it happen ATP!

Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2010 11:18 AM

So those three bands will play Pitchfork's Don't Look Back on Friday next year....

can't we get Radiohead to play Ok Computer in its entirety soon as well?

Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2010 11:22 AM

I don't think Sleep is headlining over Iggy Pop. It's a good move to put Sleep on last as I don't think anyone will left standing after their set.

Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2010 11:23 AM

Hope Sandoval/Wooden Shjips overlap? Good work, jerks.

Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2010 11:25 AM

Jarmusch dropped the ball on his day.

I wonder if the ATP people thought he could get some crazier names in like Waits or Neil Young. His day is a mishmash of anyone you can see in Brooklyn at any time, two members of Wu and then Altar. I'm SUPER stoked for Altar but I am wondering if ATP planned for that to be on Saturday and moved it to Sunday so Jarmusch's night would have a bigger "headliner" than Raekwon. Boris and Sunn both have direct relationships with ATP and Altar doesn't have anything to do with the rest of Jarmusch's day.

For me Sunday is going to be a lot of drinking. Watch GZA. More drinking, watch Raekwon, then see Altar.

I would love to go to this but I just don't see spending that much money will be worth it.

I would rather go see ATP UK version since those line-ups are always better than ATP US ones....

but regardless, have fun for those people that are going!

"if only all these bands weren't playing headlining shows in the city, i would be there"

The only notable bands not playing in the city are the Stooges and the Scientists.

But this festival is not for those that live here. It is for people that are stuck in places without many good shows and they can see a whole bunch of bands in a short amount of time.

Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2010 11:37 AM

c'mon Explosions, come to the citay again...

Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2010 11:53 AM

Even though I am stoked for Sleep, I cant believe they are headlining over The Stooges. And the onlt overlap for me is Wooden Shjips/Hope Sandoval too, it's going to be a rough decision.

Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2010 11:54 AM

its not a headline or no headline situation, its just Sleep playing last because it makes more sense.

Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2010 11:58 AM

or people that know how much of a great time it is. i live in brooklyn. and i have gone the past 2 yrs and will go to them every year if they continue. if you don't know, then keep your opinion up your ass where it belongs.

Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2010 11:59 AM

If Radiohead played Ok Computer live, my head might just fall off my shoulders and roll to the ground.

Posted by guuuurrrrllll | September 1, 2010 12:07 PM

It's a pretty big deal that the Lips are doing the Soft Bulletin. Radiohead still play a good deal of OK Computer live. The Flaming Lips played exactly zero Soft Bulletin tunes at Summerstage. Not even "Race For The Prize."

Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2010 12:24 PM

Flaming lips aren't much of a "one-off" kind of band these days. I can't see them putting all that work into learning all of Soft Bulletin for just one show.

Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2010 12:35 PM

Best lineup ever.
Other festivals should take note.

***I loved the idea of FANS pick the best though.

Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2010 12:42 PM

This lineup is a major disappointment. Altar is the only set of real note on Sunday, and the Saturday batch of headliners is entirely old hat. Sleep and Iggy and Mudhoney makes for a good Friday, but the rest of it is a snoozefest. Fortunately the festival is always a good time, even when there's not a good band on stage, but next year they'll have to show me the lineup before I commit to tickets.

Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2010 12:51 PM

@ 12:35
My thoughts exactly. I pray they bring that show to NY. I would pay top dollar for that ish!

Posted by Scott | September 1, 2010 1:00 PM

Oh and BTW,
Jim JarMEHsh

Posted by Scott | September 1, 2010 1:02 PM

BLACK ANGELS PEOPLE, BLACK ANGELS...how is no one excited to see them? They are easily the high light of Sunday's Dining Room stage

Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2010 1:11 PM

I highly doubt there will be any black people at ATP

Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2010 1:31 PM

@12:35 - I agree, The Lips will probably do a mini tour of Soft Bulliten...which would be awesome

Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2010 2:03 PM

The Lips played quite a few times in support for the Soft Bulletin. Why repeat it now?

Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2010 2:12 PM

nothing the flaming lips ever did was "seminal"

Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2010 2:21 PM

@2:21
I don't know about that...doesn't Wayne have a kid or two?

Posted by Scott | September 1, 2010 2:23 PM

@12:51...outside of Altar you think Sat and Sun is a snoozefest?

4 piece SY
Hallogallo
Tortoise
Shellac
White Hills
Dungen
Fucked Up
Apse
Bardo Pond

Yeah, this year is the weakest yet but it'll still be a great weekend.

Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2010 2:37 PM

Not black people, BLACK ANGELS

Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2010 2:37 PM

"But this festival is not for those that live here. It is for people that are stuck in places without many good shows and they can see a whole bunch of bands in a short amount of time."

Totally missing the point.

Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2010 3:03 PM

HOLY FUCK SHIT ASS THE FLAMING LIPS DOIN ALL OF THE SOFT BULLETIN IS TOO FUCKING AWESOME ILL BE THERE!!!!BEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME

Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2010 4:19 PM

ATPNY '10 is a lazy lineup... Godspeed's puts this to shame.

Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2010 6:10 PM

at least some of the overlaps allow for you to watch both they cant be too far away

Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2010 6:11 PM

cruel black dove were cool for about a week like last year.

Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2010 9:09 PM

"The only notable bands not playing in the city are the Stooges and the Scientists."

Scientists are playing gigs.

Maxwells and Cake Shop, I think.

Posted by Anonymous | September 2, 2010 1:22 AM

4-piece SY, is that confirmed?

Posted by Anonymous | September 2, 2010 10:49 AM

I wonder if Mark Ibold is going to be with Sonic Youth. He's got a gig with Pavement in Oregon on Friday and then a gig in Seattle on Sunday. Would he fly out to NYC for Saturday?

Posted by Anonymous | September 2, 2010 11:48 AM

ATPNY '10 is a lazy lineup... Godspeed's puts this to shame.

Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2010 6:10 PM

Yes God Speed is good live but Efraim is pretty pompous sometimes.

Bardo Pond, Sleep, Shellac, and Tortoise are worth seeing and of course Sunn O\ Boris.
