Bouncing Souls

After Music Hall of Williamsburg and a Rocks Off cruise got their share of poppy punk, The Bouncing Souls completed a string of three NYC dates with a benefit show at ABC No Rio yesterday (9/14). Born In A Cent opened. Pictures and video from that show are in this post.

ABC No Rio can always use help, so if you didn't make it to the show, couldn't get in, or just want to help contribute, head to their site for more info.

The Bouncing Souls have around a month off before the band kicks off a string of dates with Off With Their Heads at Riot Fest in Chicago (no NYC dates on that tour) leading up to a European tour in December. January means more touring for the band, as they will team up with NOFX for another leg of dates (also none in NYC thus far).

All dates, pics, and and a 12.5 minute video from the show, below...

Bouncing Souls are the last of true punk bands that have made it through touring and playing their hearts out. I've known these dudes for a while and remember their 'funk' period at City Gardens and yet they always bring along bands/friends they like: Vision, or some bands that have gone on to be huge: The Gaslight Anthem. At the same time sticking with an indie label (yeah, Epitaph is still indie) and not once having their videos on MTV; as, they proudly promised. Great dudes, and lyrics about growing up and at the same time growing old.

Yeah, I know bring on the 'hummus' 'meeeh' comments. We know it's unavoidable when all the music you've seen/heard has been handed to you via a blog. There was a time you had to 'dig' for something outside the mainstream.

No one cares about them anymore, but I'm sure they like hummus.

Well said @ 1:47

Just because you're the last band to get "big" doesn't make you the last band to do something.

did they play "kate is great" or "shark attack" or "lamar vannoy" if not, this was a waste

Posted by Anonymous | September 15, 2010 2:13 PM

Bouncing Souls are so "punk" they only play Live Nation venues. Oh, except ABC No Rio.

Everybody's gotta get paid, but not many have values or a sense of history.

Epitaph has not been an indie label since Offspring sold 11 million copies, Rancid played SNL, and they joined the RIAA. Nice try.

JT - shut up dork, you're probably 19, live in St. Paul, MN, dressed 'ska' with your fucking pork-pie hat and listened Less Than Jake.

Nice try.

@2:13 - none of those songs last night, but they did play Who's Gonna Throw the Toilet... they tried to play East Side Mags but Greg didn't remember any of the lyrics. Much better setlist on the boat, full of pre-2000 songs

Posted by Anonymous | September 15, 2010 2:44 PM

LOL

Posted by Anonymous | September 15, 2010 2:47 PM

@ 2:31 - Epitaph is actually the BIGGEST indie record label on the planet. Do your research.

Posted by Anonymous | September 15, 2010 3:36 PM

can we make fun of 2:31 more? I'd love to hear what a 20 year old kid from MN has to offer.

Posted by Anonymous | September 15, 2010 3:41 PM

@ 2:08 you stoned? what the hell did that even mean!?

Posted by Anonymous | September 15, 2010 3:49 PM

That was incredible. Everyone who was there said so. Just incredible. So cool that these guys will still play a show like that afer all these years and all their success. Just great.

The 2nd set of the boat show was all requests.

And as for Live Nation - I cant remember the last time the Souls have headlined a live nation venue in NYC.

In the past 5 years they've headlined Rocks Off Cruise 3 times, Music Hall, T5, Webster Hall 3 times, BB King's 2 times, Europa, Knitting Factory 6 nights in a row in 2006

Posted by Anonymous | September 15, 2010 4:29 PM

did they play "kate is great" or "shark attack" or "lamar vannoy" if not, this was a waste

They played Kate is Great & Lamar Vannoy on the boat Monday. I was yelling for Shark Attack Monday night and last night but they didn't play it :(

Posted by Anonymous | September 15, 2010 4:55 PM

bummer... lamar vannoy is pretty much the best song ever. anything off of maniacal laughter really... best song ever.

Posted by Anonymous | September 15, 2010 5:16 PM

What beautiful photographs!

Posted by Anonymous | September 15, 2010 6:08 PM

most overrated punk band ever?

Posted by Anonymous | September 15, 2010 7:13 PM

fuck this band

Posted by Anonymous | September 15, 2010 7:18 PM

yeah basically anything after maniacal laughter sucked.

Posted by Anonymous | September 15, 2010 7:38 PM

Anyone hit up the Music Hall gig? Also, are the Souls playing the winter gigs at the Pony?

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 5:02 PM

easy, killer!!! the souls are about the last band to say "fuck this band," about. regardless of musical preferences, these dudes have busted their asses and made millions of people really fucking happy over the last 20 years or so. you may not dig their songs but their tenacity, integrity, & positive impact on millions of music-lovers everywhere is rare and remarkable. and they killed it wednesday night at the middle east in boston-1st 2 l.p.s night. best show i've been to in years! they still give it all they got and there love for their music and their fans is thankfully as much there now as it was @ city gardens, abc no rio, the tune-inn and coney island high years and years ago. and they're all still total hunks...
