"Hopefully this boat isn't built to spill, yuk yuk yuk" - Matthew Conover

Built To Spill

Built to Spill played a BV-presented show on a Rocks Off boat last night (9/2), and all those in attendance did in fact safely make it back to shore (aka the West Side Highway) in one piece. Not everyone may remember it though.

If you missed it, or even if you were there and remember every detail, you'll be happy to know that they'll be back in NYC soon. The band will play record release shows on October 5th at Music Hall of Williamsburg and October 6th at Highline Ballroom. Tickets for the Manhattan show are now on sale. Brooklyn show tickets go on sale Friday, 9/10, at noon. The new shows will both be opened by ReVoLtReVoLt, will feature a post-show DJ sets by Doug Martsch (who DJ'd the boat too), and they come right before the Philly show on their recently announced tour.

More good news: NYC Taper taped it and will be posting the full audio soon. In the meantime, you can get a preview of the recording above, and check out the full recording setlist with more pictures, below....

Never seen Martsch in such good spirits, what a great place to enjoy music, there was a party mood all around. Except for the tweaked out fucker who had his fist pumping and was slamming into everyone. fuck that selfish prick, what a distraction.

BtS RULES!!!!!!!!!!

The show was awesome. There's a unique intimacy to the space. It felt like a private fanclub show - not really comparable to anything else. For about 20 minutes every time I looked out the window, I saw the Statue of Liberty from a different angle. Doug was great. Friendly to all the fanboys lined up to greet him during the pre-show dj set. Banter was charming - he asked the crowd if we liked land shows or only shows at sea. Said we didn't need to pretend to like land shows just because they're from Idaho. Sweet sing-along to Twin Falls. The setlist was perfect. All-around fantastic night.

What type of stuff did he play in his dj set?

Posted by Anonymous | September 3, 2010 5:12 PM

Must have been a good show. Im sure there was no need for security much either like some of these other damn ass bands.

Posted by Anonymous | September 3, 2010 5:14 PM

True, but I gotta admit I liked having my balls grabbed by security on the way in

Posted by Anonymous | September 3, 2010 5:22 PM

I love that they love playing NYC so much

Posted by Anonymous | September 3, 2010 5:22 PM

great show.... I was a little worried it would be crammed when I showed up and saw how long the line was, but I was able to stand right at the front

Posted by Anonymous | September 3, 2010 5:40 PM

do they have a new record coming out? why did you write "record release shows"????

Posted by Anonymous | September 3, 2010 10:30 PM

had an awesome time. security was super professional and respectful, sound was great, and it didn't feel too packed.

Great show. Plenty of room on the boat to get a breather.

Just the normal grouping towards the front. The speakers piping music to the outside deck sounded great as well so you didn't have to miss a note.

I tell you ... I went solo (wife had to bail) and really enjoyed chatting with various people. Very friendly and fun crowd.
Good time!!
