CMJ

CMJ's initial 2010 Marathon (October 19-23 in NYC) artist announcement was not super exciting. Finally a 2nd list, a much more exciting one, was just announced. It includes some big names like Phoenix (which means they'll let some CMJ badges into the MSG show), Ghostface (BB King's), UNKLE (Webster Hall), Nada Surf, Neon Indian, and John Vanderslice (Mercury Lounge with Mountain Goats).

The secret band playing the official BrooklynVegan CMJ showcase will be revealed Monday (tickets still on sale), though I can say they are part of the new big list CMJ released, which you can read in full, below...

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2010 3:15 PM

Oh the Chain Gang of 1974...when is their MTV2 show starting?

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2010 3:17 PM

How the fuck does "DJ set" count?

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2010 3:22 PM

who wants to boil down that mess into bands us non-hummus eaters care about?

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2010 3:24 PM

All of us are hummus eaters, you just haven't connected to the chickpea YET.

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2010 3:30 PM

anyone still remember CMJ's good years?
1998-2000? where are the overseas intriguing names? where are the 50 min sets? where are the 4 big names in a small room in one night? where are the 3 venues a night without missing any band options?
poor millenials, you even don't know that CMJ sucks now...

Posted by me | September 22, 2010 3:32 PM

CMJ = money. money money money money.

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2010 3:34 PM

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2010 3:35 PM

nothing comes up to purchase tix...are they sold out?

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2010 3:37 PM

Are there two different "The Shake"s?
If so, I would change one of them to be called Grimace.

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2010 3:38 PM

I thought those Hummus Mehs would certainly make it to this years lineup. Oh well, always 2011.

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2010 3:38 PM

Bumpin' Tacos is not on this list

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2010 3:41 PM

CMJ = indie rock ponzie scheme. If you think your band is going anywhere just cuz you've done a couple of shows, you're seriously deluded.

Bands don't waste your time. The tastemakers have already made their choice. You're actually better off booking a good show on a non CMJ weeknight/weekend with a few good bands at a tight venue. Why go through the hassle of traffic, competing shows and little to no $$. CMJ is a waste of time.

I'll repeat this as many times as necessary. WASTE OF TIME.

Same goes for South by Southwest. Except they got fish tacos. But you can always get fish tacos...

Lots of bands listed above...hmmm forget anyone? How about Frankie Rose and the Outs which you reported yesterday as "Their next NYC show on the calendar will take place at Coco66 on 10/22 as part of a CMJ show with Tamaryn".

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2010 3:46 PM

"I thought those Hummus Mehs would certainly make it to this years lineup. Oh well, always 2011"

Shhhh quiet... As in "The secret band playing the official BrooklynVegan CMJ showcase will be revealed Monday"

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2010 3:57 PM

If I was one of those bands, I'd quit now while I was very very far behind.

Posted by soysalami | September 22, 2010 3:58 PM

BV the ticketmaster page doesn't seem to be working..

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2010 4:01 PM

"Lots of bands listed above...hmmm forget anyone? How about Frankie Rose and the Outs which you reported yesterday as ""

1) BV didn't make the above list, CMJ did.

2) Maybe Frankie's show is not officially part of CMJ.

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2010 4:04 PM

ticket link works for me

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2010 4:05 PM

Sorry but when does a showcase become just another night in the big city?

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2010 4:10 PM

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2010 4:28 PM

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2010 4:29 PM

I know it's a cliche around these parts, but Wild Nothing is the definition of 'Meh'

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2010 4:36 PM

STRIFE!

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2010 4:37 PM

I hope Marion Raven joins Marit Larsen so we can all enjoy an M2M reunion.

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2010 4:57 PM

did I catch a Bayside in there?

Posted by ROCK STARchitect | September 22, 2010 5:14 PM

1) BV didn't make the above list, CMJ did.

2) Maybe Frankie's show is not officially part of CMJ.

Or 3 um actually kind of your 2 - based on BV's post more recent than the above we have the following from BV 5:19

"For Frankie Rose, that makes at least two shows you can catch her and band at during CMJ, though it's unclear if either show is "official"."

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2010 5:39 PM

River City Extension is great. How do I find out where they'll be playing and on what day? Signed, "Poor Millenial"

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2010 7:28 PM

honestly cmj should invest more money in their computer servers, their site always crashes, this festival is getting sadder and sadder.

i'd like 2 party in a room w/ their computer servers, bet they're real thirsty!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2010 7:36 PM

that list hurts my eyes.

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2010 7:39 PM

I just quickly perused the list and my guess is that The Drums will be the suprise guest... big enough to be a legit suprise, not so big that they overshadow the headliner

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2010 7:59 PM

The Drums are touring with Surfer Blood.

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2010 8:04 PM

The last year I really remember enjoying CMJ was 2005.

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2010 8:55 PM

Neon Indian playing MSG with Phoenix i'm guessing?

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2010 8:59 PM

with a line up like this i am quiting my job at mamoun's falafel house.

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2010 11:47 PM

^ You work at Mamouns?! That's the best Hummus place in the city! Shucks, if I worked there I would only take a day off for radiohead or daftpunk. (Maybe wavves too because of the overwhelmingly positive bv comments)

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2010 11:55 PM

Not bad, but 2008 had seven sets from Emmy the Great.

Posted by Anonymous | September 23, 2010 3:30 AM

Posted by Anonymous | September 23, 2010 10:35 AM

PENROSE

Posted by Anonymous | September 23, 2010 12:44 PM

For you non-hummus eaters:

There are a few real Rock no Roll bands I've spotted on there, starting with The Shake (listed twice, maybe because they're really good?), Black Taxi and Shilpa Ray. If you're looking for some really fun, quirky acoustic shit that doesn't require you to roll your pantlegs and start a blog, Southpaw Jones is a guy you ought to see. Just a couple suggestions.

Regardless of whether or not some commenters think this festival is useful or not for bands, it sure does offer the fans an opportunity to see a shit load of good music. There are bands from all around the fucking country on this list. Gonna be a fun week.

misspelled nite club as nit club??or is there an actual nit club?

Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2010 1:14 PM

daniel pujol. best band 2010 forever

Posted by bad child | October 6, 2010 8:26 PM

There's at least one amazing band on this list: VIVA CITY – the HOTTEST new UK electro rock band, who'll be playing on October 19 at CMJ @ Ace Of Clubs, New York City, NY.
They’ve been compared in the UK + US press to The Prodigy, Depeche Mode and Pendulum, and hailed as 'Sheer Genius' by the BBC.
As part of their 'Programmed to Party' US tour this October they're also playing dates with Deluka.
More info is at www.myspace.com/VivaCityUK
Go enjoy!

I am really excited to Clinton Curtis on 10/20/2010! "Jump this ship" is a really good song,

Jump this ship.
Oh, Jump this ship.
Tell me, will I ever live this down.
If I slip,
I will catch the whip.
And they'll never let me back in my hometown.
But at least my feel will be back on the ground.
