"When are you gonna post about The Kings Of Leon shows?" - Anonymous

"kings of Leon a band best known for their haircuts and getting pooped in their mouths and then walking out on their audience- there, how's that for a post" - Anonymous 2

my eye! (Kings of Leon @ Outside Lands) (more by Vincent Cornelli)
Kings of Leon

"Pooping pigeons forced the Kings of Leon to abandon their St. Louis, Missouri, concert after just three songs [on a Friday night in July], the rock band's management said [the next day].

An infestation of the birds in the rafters of the Verizon Amphitheatre bombarded the musicians as soon as they took the stage, according to Andy Mendelsohn of Vector Management.

"Jared (Followill) was hit several times during the first two songs," Mendelsohn said of the band's bassist." [CNN]

Fine! Kings of Leon have a new album called Come Around Sundown coming out on October 19th, and since the band is huge, they will be supporting that album with three huge east coast shows a month later. And those are:
11/14 - Boston, MA - TD Garden
11/16 - New York, NY - Madison Square Garden
11/18 - East Rutherford, NJ - Izod Center
Tickets for the Live Nation-produced MSG show will go on general sale Saturday, October 2nd at 10am. Tickets for the Bowery Presents-produced NJ show go on sale at the same time. Both shows cost $59.50, and open their doors at 6:30pm.

The MSG show also lists a Fan Club Ticketmaster-based presale beginning Thursday at 10am. I assume the NJ show will have the same.

I also assume that more dates will be announced, both in NYC and NJ (if these do well), and elsewhere in the United States. But for now the only other dates are overseas.

UPDATE: It is worth noting that Kings of Leon went back to St. Louis this past weekend and played a free show to make up for the pigeon fiasco. I didn't realize that when I first posted.

All dates, with video from the pigeon poop show, below...

Posted by Anonymous | September 28, 2010 3:02 PM

I bet there will be a lot of sanctimonious hipsters who miss the sound of a great band in its' prime.

I don't get it...these philistines were opening for The Strokes on the Room on Fire Tour and now they're playing MSG...and where the hell are The Strokes?? Playing bullshit private shows??

HI-LA-RI-O-US ! ! ! !!

Posted by Anonymous | September 28, 2010 3:23 PM

People who begin to disparage bands when they reach mainstream popularity should be shot in the face and shit on by pigeons.

2:59 you have the best+most accurate comment of the day.

Awesome news. Can't wait to see them rock out MSG again.

This band has a classic case of Dave Matthews Band Syndrome; the fans ended up becoming horrible, and thus the people that loved them in the early years phased them out because they couldn't separate the fans from the music (I will be the first to admit I was one of them). But these guys are very musically talented and f'ing rock, end of story.

To all the subsequent hater commenters: Have fun searching Hype Machine and quickly fast-forwarding tracks while looking for the next "Band of the Week" (which is really just some avant garde bullshit that any 14 year old with any remote music talent could make on Garageband). Indie rock is dead... James Murphy said it best -- too many talentless people have access to the tools to make music, and the internet is not only over-saturated with garbage, it's over-saturated with music bloggers looking to one-up the other. And the only way bands can stand out is by making their music more abstract than the next, until eventually it's just that -- abstract noise that isn't even remotely pleasing to the ear.

But is it any surprise that these once-indie bands like KOL, Arcade Fire, Black Keys, Vampire Weekend, etc. are now playing stadiums? It's b/c their music actually has substance, b/c a lot of it goes back to basics with good rhythms, chords and melodies. The rest of it is all bullshit.

Sorry for the stream of consciousness, just needed to get that off my chest.

Posted by The Dude | September 28, 2010 3:32 PM

^^^ KOL were never indie. always on a major label. vamp weekend and arcade fire have always been on indie labels. can't lump them together.

my only exposure to KOL is hearing their awful songs on the radio with the trite brit pop production with growling southern/post-grunge vocals sung on top. doesn't really make me want to listen more.

Posted by Anonymous | September 28, 2010 3:51 PM

The Dude abides. Right On. Valid points.

Posted by IMC | September 28, 2010 3:53 PM

so glad I booed the shit out of this band at all points west....they suck

Posted by Anonymous | September 28, 2010 4:03 PM

Put a hat on and finish the show. Either way they are all shitheads.

Posted by Burg | September 28, 2010 4:08 PM

quite possibly one of the most unenthused live shows ever. dont pay a cent.

Posted by Anonymous | September 28, 2010 4:12 PM

people who liked them in the early years phased out cause the band started making shitty records that the mass public happened to like. and their shows began to lack energy with a TERRIBLE sound guy, for real

Posted by Anonymous | September 28, 2010 4:40 PM

@The Dude

Kings of Leon are shit. Vampire Weekend are shit. They only reason these two play large venues is because they make music of the LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR. They are no different than Korn, Limp Bizkit or Audioslave.

Posted by Anonymous | September 28, 2010 4:42 PM

HA audioslave is a random example..who even remembers them

Posted by Anonymous | September 28, 2010 4:44 PM

4:42... if your ears can't hear the difference in quality between those five bands, you're a complete moron.

Posted by Anonymous | September 28, 2010 4:44 PM

@ 4:44

You're just a tad red in the face now because you fingerbanged your pre-pubescent girlfriend in middle to "Nookie" and now you put on "Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa" to ease the mind of some harlet you roofied to go home with you.

Posted by Anonymous | September 28, 2010 4:47 PM

See, I knew you were a moron. You can't distinguish between five different bands, you assume people who can are date-rapists, and you use "kwassa" in a sentence.

Posted by Anonymous | September 28, 2010 4:53 PM

no double bill with Nickelback?

Posted by Anonymous | September 28, 2010 4:54 PM

@4:53

You're obviously unaware of purposeful antagonism.

Posted by Anonymous | September 28, 2010 4:57 PM

Oh no, I'm aware. You're just really clumsy and transparent as you attempt it.

Posted by Anonymous | September 28, 2010 5:03 PM

maybe they should tour with MGMT, the piss and pigeons tour!

Posted by Anonymous | September 28, 2010 5:15 PM

hmm, 11/18- see tame impala at bowery ballroom or see kings of leon at izod center?

if only all of life consisted of such easy decisions...

Posted by Anonymous | September 28, 2010 5:26 PM

5:26

KOL for sure.

Posted by Anonymous | September 28, 2010 5:49 PM

@4:40 nail on the head

Posted by Anonymous | September 28, 2010 5:56 PM

60 bucks! hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Posted by Anonymous | September 28, 2010 6:09 PM

Kings of Hummus.

Posted by Anonymous | September 28, 2010 6:12 PM

Kings of Suede

Weird Al-ed

Posted by Anonymous | September 28, 2010 6:23 PM

4:53--I think you are right when it comes to the band.

However, that dude is not "using Kwassa in a sentence," he is quoting a song title. There's a difference.

Posted by Anonymous | September 28, 2010 7:58 PM

they have the five minute rule if you work for them.. You cant get on the stage to work until 5 minutes after they are done playing. in other words, you work for em and they dont want anything to do with ya. on the other hand, their touring crew are total pro and the soundman is a nice dude. not sure if he sucks at his job though.

Posted by Anonymous | September 28, 2010 8:31 PM

on the other hand, if it were the flaming lips- Wayne would be on the stage to observe every detail of the production and personally thank everyone.. CLASS.

Posted by Anonymous | September 28, 2010 8:33 PM

y'all can suck my balls

Posted by Anonymous | September 28, 2010 10:09 PM

Being an indie band doesn't automatically make your band the "good guys". Or having good songs..

Posted by Anonymous Mouse | September 28, 2010 11:35 PM

crews cant look them in the eye or they get fired. PRICKS!

Posted by Anonymous | September 29, 2010 12:15 AM

They didn't let some other members of HEADLINING acts watch sidestage at Roo. They get a bodyguard to hold bathrooms as their own at festival shows so no other acts can use them. They make other acts pull to the side when they drive by. They have turned into the biggest diva pricks ever. I hate when people say bands sold out, but listen to their albums in order. Jesus...

Posted by Anonymous | September 29, 2010 12:33 AM

i'm glad MSG doesn't serve hummus. fuck this show.

Posted by Anonymous | September 29, 2010 2:35 AM

Its funny that on the first album these guys were trying to go the whole good ole-boys trying to look like the Allman Brothers route. That didn't work so they get re-branded as stadium rockers and turn into divas. Talk about phony bullshit...

Posted by Anonymous | September 29, 2010 9:07 AM

oh come on everyone relax. these guys are a good band. have they 'sold out'? yea, basically, but the last 2 records are GOOD albums. great songs, good melodies, a fabulous singer. who cares if they are pricks. if you don't want to see them, or are bitter that they aren't the band they were in 2004, don't go!? simple. plenty of other great bands out there. just because a band has mainstream fans does NOT mean they suck. grow up people...

Posted by Anonymous | September 29, 2010 11:27 AM

^-- no it does mean they suck. welcome to BV

Posted by Anonymous | September 29, 2010 11:55 AM

11:55, you hit the head on the nail.
