Screaming Females

Screaming Females played their record release show at Knitting Factory in Brooklyn last night (9/15), and their next NYC show has already been revealed. Get to Webster Hall early on Saturday, 9/25, because they're now first of three on the Titus Andronicus/Free Energy show happening there that night. Tickets are still on sale.

Meanwhile Screaming Females are still on tour including tonight in Philly with a very special guest...

"Hey Philly! We're playing a last minute show with our friends the Screaming Females tonight at The Ox (1652 N. 2nd St.). Show starts at 9, over by 12. Come down and get their awesome new record Castle Talk, by Screaming Females!" - Ted Leo
That's a sweet surprise.

Shellshag and Big Eyes opened the Brooklyn show last night (9/15). If you weren't there, maybe you watched the live stream... I didn't know about the stream until now... which is okay because the entire stream is still watchable. Check that out, with more pictures from the show, and the setlist, below....

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 6:14 PM

Sick Titus show just got even better.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 6:27 PM

I don't understand what all the fuss is about with them. Love to love a jersey band but jeez.

Posted by GW | September 16, 2010 6:28 PM

I think that bass player has listened to a lot of Dino Jr. Good stuff.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 6:43 PM

Sick of pictures of people with their mouths wide open.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 6:52 PM

who are those two lookers in the second picture?

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 6:56 PM

anyone else who was at this have that one shellshag song in their head? hadnt heard them before this but theyre pretty good. been singing "rude to me, rude to me, ruude too mee" all day

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 7:04 PM

@628 as someone who doesnt really love to love jersey bands i suppose i could make a case: the main gal's a very good lead guitarist for her genre, her weird Siouxsie-esque vibrato mixed w/ nick-cave-releasing-the-bats yelps are really cool too. the rhythm section is presentable and the songs are all pretty good and varied (stuff like "boyfriend" doesn't sound like that new smithsy single much at all) and i certainly couldn't pinpoint the niche/aural stereotype of buried in the nude if i had to. also they all look like misfits. who doesn't love a band of miscreants?

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 7:16 PM

First Justin Beiber played the drums & now he plays the guitar! I've got the fever!!!

Posted by Kat Bjelland | September 16, 2010 7:29 PM

"The rhythm section is presentable" - now THAT'S a compliment!

Posted by streetdude | September 16, 2010 7:44 PM

never heard their stuff before so i went to youtube and listened to several songs. i thought overall they were pretty good. i have always love trio's.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 7:46 PM

Everyone is like "you need to see screaming females live to really appreciate them, you need to see screaming females like to really appreciate them"

I saw them and for the first time I think the work "meh" is justified.

yes, she can shred, but so can a lot of dorks in their basement. Shreding doesn't mean they can write good songs or be in a good band.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 8:24 PM

@744 i was tryna be nice about those guys...they are kinda middling. uhh... the bassist is really tall?

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 8:25 PM

Having been a screaming females fan for a bit now all I can say is - Yes, they are great musicians (guitar, bass etc) But they let me down as a band on the whole.

i liked the pics very much as they blew by my computer screen in 2.7 seconds. now i wonder what that music sounds like?

Posted by wobbly | September 16, 2010 9:33 PM

Bieber Fever. Bieber Boobs.

Posted by Sam Ronson | September 16, 2010 10:23 PM

marissa uhh... *shuffles papers, dead air* looks like.... *shuffles papers again* justin bieber??? *crickets*

(ps. disagree with "so what if someone can play lead guitar good" being a good point. howsat? there's not a ton of great lead guitarists in indie rock these days at all. if the band was bad or she wasn't the only guitarist + singer i might agree but...)

I have a story about a screaming female...
So I had this girl over the other night for dinner, and when she arrived, I told her I had spaghetti and not hummus, and that chik was screaming!

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 11:46 PM

11:46, go watch swingers or something you dipshit unfunny dorm dweller

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 11:58 PM

11:58 has indigestion from eating too many corndogs and is feeling a tad on the cranky side. He should switch to hummus, and let the good vibes of the chickpea take hold.

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2010 12:33 AM

Hummus sux. All carbs.

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2010 3:25 AM

is the hummus guy heir to a hummus fortune? that's why he plugs it every minute.

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2010 6:19 AM

First time hearing Screaming Females. It makes me feel all warm in side knowing that the girls can still bring it.

Posted by John Oatess | September 17, 2010 9:32 AM

11:46 A real hummus commenter would not set it up like that. There are only two real hummus commenters that I see on this board. The rest are pale imitators.

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2010 11:44 AM

"real" hummus commenters? like it's a GOOD thing?! i wish those hummus people would lie down underneath a street cleaner and fucking DIE.

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2010 12:16 PM

Hummus people are massive in numbers. A street cleaner mishap you desire wouldn't even put a dent in the movement.

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2010 12:41 PM

if only bruce banner read this blog. you wouldn't like him when he's angry. and i'm SURE he would hate those hummus dweebs.

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2010 1:35 PM

Bruce Banner is part of the hummus movement... How do you think h got all those muscles?
Hummus is a high protein snack!!

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2010 1:42 PM

Ever heard of GAMMA RAYS you dumb shit? I don't think there's any hummus in those!

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2010 2:08 PM

Nutritional value of hummus per 8oz serving.
Protein- 12 grams
Iron- 120mg
Folic acid- 270mg
Gamma rays- 19 megawatts

Who's the dipshit now son?!

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2010 2:13 PM

damn, justin looks good in a dress. i would love to spray him in the face with some of my hummus.

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2010 2:35 PM

@"Anonymous 9/16 7:04 PM"

That Shellshag song RULES! It's called "Resilient Bastard".

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2010 2:37 PM

Titus/Free Energy/Screaming Females = Sick show.

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2010 6:02 PM

terrible band. ever since they started in new brunswick. they'll always suck. hype will go down. hopefully soon

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2010 8:06 PM

four or five albums and hype not down, will probably not go down. four or five minutes and commenter above me eats a KFC double down. two pitch perfect predictions, thank you all

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2010 8:40 PM

four or five or six albums down can be any band around the tri-state area that has had buzz for many years and opened for bands as good as dinosaur jr and buzz HAS gone down. considering you mentioned KFC...its probably because your fat ass ate it. 2 realistic predictions! applause everyone. fucking hipsters.
