Sleep @ Brooklyn Masonic Temple Monday night

Sleep

Back before Boris and Sunn O))) took over the place, Sleep played their first of two NYC shows at Brooklyn Masonic Temple on Monday night, Labor Day (9/6). Unearthly Trance and Doomriders opened the show, and the legendary stoner band will do it AGAIN TONIGHT (9/8), this time with different openers: Lichens and A Storm of Light. The show, which WAS sold out, will now have tickets available when doors open at 7PM TODAY.

Sleep's reunion tour so far also included shows at ATP NY and at FYF Fest out west.

Unearthly Trance's next NYC show is at Union Pool on 9/29 with Swedish doom destructors SUMA and NJ's Pharoah. The show is part of a short stint of dates for the duo and doubles as their record release party for the forthcoming V due on Relapse Records at the end of this month. Unearthly Trance and SUMA will share a collaborative EP on Throne Records in the coming months, not to be confused with their previous, and now sold-out, split 10".

If you miss them tonight, Lichens also have another show coming up soon:

Posted by Anonymous | September 8, 2010 2:41 PM

Posted by Thomas | September 8, 2010 2:51 PM

Anyone know what are the songs after the Ozzy cover at the end, from the set list photo?

Posted by Anonymous | September 8, 2010 2:54 PM

I'll be sleeping

Posted by Anonymous | September 8, 2010 3:07 PM

Anyone have the setlist from Philly last night? Thanks!

Posted by Anonymous | September 8, 2010 3:08 PM

Last two nights were awesome... hopefully those cocksuckers wont be throwing people out for smoking... fucking cunts...

Posted by Anonymous | September 8, 2010 3:15 PM

new song played at the end? great pics.

Posted by Anonymous | September 8, 2010 3:18 PM

I bet that place smelled like bearded dudes and weed.

Posted by Anonymous | September 8, 2010 3:27 PM

THX for the poster pics!!!

Anyone have pics of the shirts???
Said there were 4 designs
Surely one is the Holy Mountain cover.

Posted by Anonymous | September 8, 2010 3:29 PM

@ 3:27 - Yes, correct assumption. I was there last night for the ripe smells and bowel churning bass...AWESOME EFFING NIGHT!

Posted by Anonymous | September 8, 2010 3:30 PM

Confirmed: Balcony area was thick with stink..some good...some ..not so good.

Posted by Burg | September 8, 2010 3:37 PM

someone farted in the pit

Posted by Anonymous | September 8, 2010 3:46 PM

I thought the odor wasn't so bad... But then again I had a large container of garlic hummus with me, so the odorific emanations in my area were heavenly.

Posted by Anonymous | September 8, 2010 3:53 PM

The thuggy security staff at this place is ridiculous. I watched a GIANT dude manhandle a girl outside like she was a perp on a Cops episode, just because she was asking which line she was supposed to be in.

Posted by Anonymous | September 8, 2010 4:02 PM

This stoner metal dude just bought Spoon tickets thanks to that post! See how open minded BKV commenters are?

Posted by Anonymous | September 8, 2010 4:39 PM

I love how every BMT show never ends before midnight.

Posted by Anonymous | September 8, 2010 5:10 PM

The Denver show was and amazing performance. They shared the stage with Russian Circles which were a very nice opener. :D Very very very pleased with the show and may I note the laziest mosh pit I have ever seen in my life. HAHA!!!

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2010 3:39 AM

what sleep merch was available?

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2010 8:29 AM

They had a patch, two out of four t-shirts, and a poster. One shirt was only in Girl M as soon as the doors opened. I was hoping to come home with a sweet Sleep jersey but no dice. People love them some Sleep merch, I guess!

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2010 9:26 AM

Sleep were very good, it was great to see them play for 2 hours, back in the day we were lucky to get 45 mins - the Ozzy cover was cool.

I must be getting old but that venue is crazy, they had 1/2 a door open for the exit. If there had been a real emergency we're talking 100's dead.

Posted by nygrump | September 9, 2010 10:56 AM

wtf was up with the stage hand manhandling the crowd surfers?

Posted by anon | September 9, 2010 11:03 AM

I got a Sleep shirt that has Tony Iommi and underneath it says "The Deity". On the back it has tour dates. Of course I was there mad early.

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2010 11:48 AM

needed more Dopesmoker verses

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2010 12:32 PM

Holy Shit Mountain! Last night's show was so sick! 2 hours of some of he heaviest sounds I've ever heard live. Thank you Sleep...PLEASE COME AGAIN! Wish I would've gone to both nights even tho I feel like I got sledgehammered last night. Feel sorry for anyone that missed such an epic event...HOPE THERE WILL BE MORE!!!

Posted by gunka | September 9, 2010 3:36 PM

Great show... no, awesome show. Asshole security--basically you got kicked out if you smoked weed during the first 25 minutes or so, otherwise you were golden. Crazy fucking fire hazard front doors.

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2010 5:06 PM

THX 11:48, I pray to Iommi i get that one

Posted by TXn | September 9, 2010 5:58 PM

BRO bands ...yikes!

Posted by Anonymous | September 10, 2010 9:42 PM

Yeah, good to catch them live, too bad that was a bit ruined by the "venue" itself. Show was a packed rathole w/0% ventilation. My best friend fainted twice only to be viciously manhandled by a 7' 500lb gangsta beast security goon before I stepped in. Long tale, but the night would have been better had we all just stayed @ the bar beforehand. Unreal.

Posted by Daltoxic | September 11, 2010 1:28 PM

I thought BMT was cool with the weed smoking but I guess not. I was able to smoke right before they went on and somewhere in middle of the set. Saw a bunch of people getting kicked out
