Sound Fix Records (more by Leia Jospe)

As the Daily Swarm points out, and as confirmed by the store, Sound Fix Records is for sale for $250,000. "Situated at the corner of Berry St and North 11 Street, one block from Bedford Ave, Sound Fix is widely recognized as one of New York's finest record stores which has an inventory of 8,000 CDs, LPs, DVDs, magazines, and books.... [there is] 9+ years left on lease."
That said, the store's owner says he has no plans on closing, even if nobody bites, but that he needs to field offers as a 2nd job is taking up more and more of his time and it's becoming "a bit much".

The sound fix owner is taking his second job which is his true passion.
A hummus cook.

i got like... $4. deal?

9+ year lease on a record store?? Yikes!
Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2010 4:17 PM
This was only a matter of time after the move. The old location not only was great, but it also allowed drink sales to supplement dwindling record sales. Damn shame.

it's a growth industry!

No, actually it wasn't. But I see he told them the same thing.

Yeah, SF always seemed like it was run by a non-music lover. The selection was neither wide nor deep. Seemed like more of a (not very friendly) hang-out joint . . . hope this guy finds his passion, elsewhere. And if the store remains, find a new buyer.

Running scared from Rough Trade Records moving in down the street?
Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2010 4:29 PM
haters
Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2010 4:35 PM
This store actually has decent prices. The selection isn't that bad either.
It's one of the best stores for new vinyl and going here sure beats going to other music.

James does love music. Anyone who runs a brick and mortar record store in 2010 loves music, because they aren't getting rich off of it. And I heard that the Rough Trade shop is opening in Brooklyn Heights.
Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2010 5:02 PM
no one is gonna buy that place. it will be turned into a falafel joint or a $.99 pizza slice shack.
Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2010 5:11 PM
$250,000 could sure buy a lot of music on iTunes.
Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2010 5:19 PM
my apartment is for sale for $8.2million. it's a studio.
Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2010 5:19 PM
Maybe the hummus asshole will open up their own hummus shop there n stop posting their continuous stupidity
Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2010 5:21 PM
Wow. That sucks they just moved there. That store sucks. I'd deal with the pretentious hipster nerd-core's at Acaemdy in Brooklyn any day over this ghost-town store.

Thee consumption based society, that we live in requires us to identify self by purchasing products that show how interesting we really are. If a pretenses ”indie” music store with snotty employees cannot stay open in New York, then what do we really have. The fascist oligarchy has taken almost everything now they are coming for your cool.
Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2010 5:30 PM
sound fix is solid. they have some of the better prices in the city and usually get new releases for sale before the release date...i also find some hard to find new releases there as well. the new store has put more emphasis on vinyl and the space is bright...no complaints.
Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2010 5:32 PM
Their sales were plummeting because they wouldn't allow you to eat or drink inside. How is a man like me gonna get my hummus fix while shopping at sound fix?
Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2010 5:32 PM
James could be a hell of a lot less of a dick to everyone all the time but the store ain't bad.

> and usually get new releases for sale before the release date...
wow, that just royally pissed of every record company on the planet.

ROUGH TRADE in BK? Who can confirm this!?!!?!
Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2010 5:56 PM
I like Sound Fix a lot. Really good selection of new vinyl. Unlike Other Music, they've also always got the new releases out on they day they're released.
Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2010 6:07 PM
snotty record store clerks? i'm shocked.
Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2010 6:17 PM
pretty much the last shop i'd go to if i wanted to buy a record
Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2010 6:25 PM
Wrap it up...I'll take it!
Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2010 7:00 PM
I wish they WOULD turn that joint into a hummus joint. North Williamsburg is lacking in a good falafel place. And it would also substantially increase the property value of all those luxury condos up there.
Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2010 7:04 PM
oh thank fucking god. this place is/was one of the worst places on the planet to buy music.
shitty selection and shitty customer service all around. normally the economic plight of a local music shop is of some concern, but not for this store. good riddance.

How is Earwax still open? Whatever about Soundfix, Permanent is far superior.

love grabbin a hummus sandwhich from oasis then hittin up sound fix, shoppin for brother's keeper in the used bins
Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2010 1:20 AM
perhaps the hummus asshole will have his/her parents buy it for them? i can only imagine they also suppliment his/her living in williamsburg these days as clearly they aren't getting by on their intelligence and witty communicating abilities. actually, it doesn't seem like they're getting by on their music knowledge either which then begs the question...what the fuck are they doing on this site? go read a book my friend.

Why is everyone so salty? SoundFix is a good store to have around. What the hell?

i once made a record out of hummus it did not scratch
