Summerstage 2010 (more by Andrew St Clair)
Summerstage

It may be almost fall, but Rumsey Playfield aka Central Park Summerstage is coming back on the radar starting tonight (9/16). There are seven shows total at the outdoor venue between now and September 24th and they are:

  1. 9/16 Cake
  2. 9/17 Ween
  3. 9/18 Broken Social Scene & The Sea & Cake
  4. 9/21 Pavement & Thee Oh Sees
  5. 9/22 Pavement & Times New Viking
  6. 9/23 Pavement & Endless Boogie
  7. 9/24 Pavement & The Beets
Except for the 9/21 Pavement show which is listed as "Summerstage", they all come up on Ticketmaster with a search of "Rumsey". I didn't try every Pavevent show, but tickets are still available for Cake, Ween and BSS, and there are definitely still tickets available for the first Pavement show which is the one happening in Brooklyn with Jenny and Johnny.

i guess they went the distance.....

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 11:57 AM

Wow..tickets on stub hub $15 for pavement..

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 12:01 PM

Yeah, I remember last year I got seriously flamed here for saying that tickets would be a dime a dozen by the time the shows came around. So, bite me, ha ha.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 12:04 PM

Pulled pairs of Pavement tickets for the 22nd and 23rd, but didn't buy them. Have at 'em, people.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 12:06 PM

12:04...a dime a dozen? I will give you a buck can I have 120 tickets please? :)

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 12:09 PM

i can't believe i bought my 22nd ticket over a year ago... coulda sworn i'd be driving a flying car by now. shit's still the same :(

"Yeah, I remember last year I got seriously flamed here for saying that tickets would be a dime a dozen by the time the shows came around. So, bite me, ha ha."

I agreed with you. Why would anyone buy tickets so far in advance? I saw Modest Mouse the other day for $10. Faith No More $20. People are dumping Pavement tickets on CL big time. Easily a $10 ticket.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 12:18 PM

No BSS tickets left.

BROWN

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 12:31 PM

What time is ween going on tomorrow? Only band worth seeing on that list.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 12:39 PM

I bought Pavement tickets right when they went on sale..I also thought they were going to be impossible to get...now they are sale for 10 bucks...fml

WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN!

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 12:41 PM

WHY DOES WEEN NEED TO PLAY HERE ON YOM KIPPUR OF ALL NIGHTS!?!?

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 12:49 PM

I think Dean and Gene are jewish to boot also!

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 12:52 PM

@12:04 & 12:19,

I think that has more to do with the fact that outdoor shows are murder on scalpers. I've yet to see an outdoor show in NYC that doesn't give people cold feet on ticket purchasing (particularly the Waterfront). It's not like there's not a demand for this sort of act, Guided By Voices just sold out T5 for fucks sake.

I'll be on the grass for Times New Viking

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 1:09 PM

Its free!

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 1:09 PM

Gener's Jewish, and so is Dave (the bassist), but not Deaner

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 1:28 PM

for pavement i really hope they dont mess up the sound like usual at summerstage. i hope its loud!

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 1:36 PM

When/where did BV get word that Endless Boogie & The Beets would be opening those last two dates? Not doubting him, but last I heard 9/23 was some band called slothbear and 9/24 was tba/special guests.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 1:42 PM

whats the security scene here like? can you carry in flasks and stuff? guessing any visible liquid bottles are not allowed.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 1:49 PM

1:36 amen, when i saw hot chip it was frustratingly low. pavement needs to be LOUD

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 1:49 PM

didn't summerstage get a new "neighbor friendly" soundsystem? i remember reading about that here. maybe that's why the sound has kinda sucked this year

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 1:51 PM

As much as Williamsburg sucks, it might be better to see Pavement there and not have to put up with Summerstage's low volume.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 1:53 PM

man... is summerstage really gonna be too low? i can't... i just can't deal with low-sounding pavement. it's pavement for chrissakes. arghhh

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 1:58 PM

1:49, put a flask in your pocket, at hot chip i did that and no one patted me down

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 2:04 PM

Always liked Cake, but never saw Cake, never spoke to anyone that saw Cake, going to Cake. Not sure what to expect for Cake. Anyone seen Cake live??? Cake

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 2:38 PM

@12:39: I'm pretty sure Ween go on around 7:30-10:00. And I agree with you, only band on that list worth seeing.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 2:38 PM

2:38. In saw Cake live and they were ok. John is a little too sarcastic for me. He made strange offbeat comments all throught the show.

Including "How many more Japanese electronics do you need"

On top of that he plays the glockenspeil in almost every song.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 2:42 PM

Cake is not playing...

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 2:50 PM

cake is a lot of fun. i am going to see them tonite. gonna try to make ween too. long live ween

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 3:22 PM

I thought Cake were great when they played Prospect Park with Modest Mouse and the Flaming Lips. Wasn't expecting it to be so good.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 3:27 PM

@12:09 uh i believe you mean 12.. way to go.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 4:40 PM

Dude, people were giving away Pavement tix by the time of their Chicago show this week.

Still, it was an excellent show!

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 5:41 PM

12:49 tell your parents you're grown up now (lie) and say you aren't coming to Yom Kippur this year.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 5:42 PM

4:40, get a new hobby other than correcting colloquial comments.

Also, anyone who likes Cake hates music and doesn't deserve to see live music.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 5:44 PM

12:49 might get disiherited if he does what 5:42 suggests. gotta weigh the cost/benefits.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2010 7:10 PM

Times New Viking!!!

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2010 7:57 AM

@ 5:44 - If I like Cake and Cake makes music then how can I hate music if I like Cake?

Also - If I like Cake and Cake plays live music why don't I deserve to see them live if Cake plays live in my town?

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2010 8:47 AM

The website says the BSS show starts at 5:30. That is doors, I'm assuming. What time do you think the show will actually start? 7?

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2010 9:21 AM

So I'm a bit confused. I thought for the most part Summerstage shows were free? Is this suddenly not true anymore? I wanna go see Pavement but have no idea where to get tickets if they are in fact mandatory.

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2010 3:34 PM

what times does BSS start tonight?

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2010 12:20 PM

"I wanna go see Pavement but have no idea where to get tickets if they are in fact mandatory."

Tickets are only for the seated VIP area. Regular tickets are free. Just show up early for the Pavement show in order to get in.

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2010 1:01 PM

you're free to stand outside... if you wanna get in you'll need a ticket...
