Wow, that's sad. I really liked the Slits and am glad I finally saw them in concert a few years ago.

Anyone know how she died?

Not to get off-topic from the tragedy, but I had no idea Lydon's wife was her mother. Quite an age gap there.

Oh wow, this is shocking. This is not what I wanted to hear right before going to bed. But I have to remind myself that the old punkers don't usually last long. Not to pry into their personal lives but I wonder what got her at 48??? Well you can't say she didn't leave a huge mark on punk with the Slits. I consider it a privilege to have seen them once a few years back and they were fantastic. She looked like the happiest person in the world back with the Slits performing on stage. RIP Ari-Up. You touched many and will be missed by more.

cliches abounding, but what else can i do: she was a true original. i love the slits. she and the rest of her band opened the door for women to actually write their own music. ari up r.i.p. <3.

12:40. I also never knew that Johnny Lydon was her stepfather and that her mother is a Der Spiegel heiress.

One of the most entertaining, energetic and inspiring voices in all of popular music.
RIP, heady-dready.

This year I discovered New Age Steppers, another group Ari sang for. They had a couple of records out in 1980, 1981. "Fade Away" and "Love Forever" quickly became all time faves. RIP.

This is so terrible. Ari's talent and spirit will continue to inspire.

@12:40: Apparently she died of cancer.
This is another sad death.

RIP. Ari will definitely be missed. After that Slits record a couple of years ago, it was apparent she had a lot more left to do. Anybody see them open for Sonic Youth at McCarren Park? Really fun show.

48 ?! Sad news indeed. At least she was doing sh*t,touring, and living life on her own terms til the end. RIP Arianna Foster.

I played a couple shows with Ari. Most memorably was playing keys for her at CBGBs years ago. It was the first band I had ever played in. Ari took me under her wing and showed me the ropes. She will be missed.

the mccarren show was a lot of fun, with the Slits opening up for Sonic Youth on the Daydream Nation show.
Ari Up was perfectly happy to be there warming the crowd up with a party-oriented, good vibe set - simple and fun, and somehow deep at the same time. She was an acquired taste, but a true original. Sad.
