"It's a scene here at coco66 for frankie/tamaryn/glasser" - Bill

"The cops shut down coco66. I am SO pissed!!!!! Aghhh Tamaryn didn't finish the set and they were amazing" - gina

"NYPD just shutdown the Coco66 show 3 songs into Tamaryn's (unofficial) CMJ set. Supposedly due to over capacity. Crowd, band bummed." - marvic paulo

Tamaryn's exclusive Brooklyn CMJ show, which wasn't actually part of CMJ, took place at Coco66 on Friday night (10/22). Light Asylum and Frankie & the Outs were both openers. Glasser was added at the last minute, but never ended up getting to play. Tamaryn, as you can read in the above tweets, barely got to play after the cops busted in after three songs.

The venue, which reportedly was either over capacity or not up to code, remains shut as of Sunday night. There's a rumor that they might not open back up for a while, though they are still advertising Monday's Superhuman Happiness show.

If this happened in Texas during SXSW, one might speculate that Coco66's closing had something to do with the "unofficial" nature of the show, but it would probably be silly to guess that CMJ has that much influence with the NYC government.

BV and Andrew St. Clair: why do you deny us close-up shots of the talented guitarist in the Outs and her magnificent bosom?

someone was selling some bad hummus

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2010 9:44 PM

or rather no hummus at all, hence the shutdown....the "code" the article speaks of states that hummus must be for sale at all brooklyn music events

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2010 10:23 PM

Is this venue legal?

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2010 10:25 PM

Looks like the fashion police shut this show down.

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2010 10:29 PM

What's also fucked is that the promoter pulled the punkcast audio feed before the show wothout telling me.

typical Seva clusterfuck

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2010 10:54 PM

Shut down before more empty and inconsequential music could be freed into the world. Such a shame.

@10:46 No need to play favorites. We should be celebrating ALL of the cute, talented ladies in indie rock bands these days, and there are MANY.

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2010 11:15 PM

all the ladies in frankie and the outs are lookers. no doubt!

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2010 11:48 PM

They got what they deserved for trying to benefit solely out of bands that CMJ drew to the city. Good riddance.

this "fuck up" wasn't seva's fault and the man's thrown great shows for years, often for very little or free and often with free booze, this was a venue that wasn't up to code, it could have been any promoter there that night, only the venue was fined, keep up the good work man

Posted by Anonymous | October 25, 2010 1:23 AM

I rather like the "clusterfuck" comment.

@10:38 - Are you calling the singer of Light Asylum (whose music I don't even like but STILL know has already done more positive and creative things with her life than you will ever do with yours) a "nigga"?

Posted by Anonymous | October 25, 2010 9:30 AM

The sound for both Frankie Rose + Outs, Light Asylum was great at Glasslands last month, but loved seeing both acts again along with Tamaryn.

Posted by Anonymous | October 25, 2010 9:57 AM

was not a fan of light asylum at all. frankie and the outs were really good as usual. i wonder why the show started so late?? i got there around 10:50 and light asylum had just taken the stage apparently. and that place was ridiculously packed, not surprised it was shut down by the pigs. very disappointing nontheless by tamaryn's short cut set.

"the ladies in frankie and the outs are lookers. no doubt!"

I have my doubts. You don't need to be attractive to make good music, but lookers? Um, no.

Tamaryn also played the Mexican Summer showcase on Thursday. While they sounded great, they were very hard to watch as their onstage "performance" was extremely contrived and off-putting.

Posted by kickerofelves | October 25, 2010 10:53 AM

douche fest!

Posted by Anonymous | October 25, 2010 11:07 AM

What about Tamaryn was so "contrived and off-putting"?

Posted by Anonymous | October 25, 2010 11:09 AM

"douche fest!'

coco 66 is cuckoo for cocoa puffs - or - where there's a smoke machine, there's fire.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2010 8:05 AM

Police should have swooped in and rounded up all of the flash photographers.
