Deerhunter

"I had never seen Deerhunter or even heard one of their records but I really enjoyed their powerful but dreamy and spacious sounds. Half of Williamsburg made the L train trek over to the island for this (I thought I was on Bedford Av) and the sold out show sure pleased everyone. The four Athens-originating Atlanta-based musicians had good stage presence and attitude and to me sounded a lot more interesting and original than a lot of other indie rock bands out there right now."
[Mark Urselli]
Deerhunter headlined their 2nd NYC in two weeks at Webster Hall on Friday night (10/15). The first was a shorter and more random appearance at the Apple Store on the release date of of their new album. Friday night's show was a much larger event and a stop on their ongoing tour with Real Estate and Casino vs Japan. More pictures from that one, some Big Ass Lens video, Deerhunter's setlist, with Diplo & Lunice's awesome new remix of "Helicopter" (streamable and downloadable), below...

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2010 11:11 PM

Real Estate suck dick. Bradford was delusional to choose them as an opener.

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2010 12:47 AM

I missed the show but my friend told me it was great, nice pics of the show and venue.

Posted by indianapolis real estate | October 17, 2010 4:10 PM

The hummus was flowing like water up at this show. And I loved every moment of it.

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2010 6:38 PM

terrific show and 11:16- right there with you.

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2010 7:38 PM

the lack of any kind of intelligent critique of this show by the messages above is unfortunately not a shocker.

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2010 8:07 PM

@8:07 the presence of insolent and snarky comments such as yours is even less of a surprise.

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2010 10:44 PM

hey 8:07 and 10:44, how about i stick my dick up both your asses and then see what you have to say? how about that

Posted by Anonymous | October 18, 2010 12:05 AM

what is up with josh fauver... dude fucks up on EVERY song. surprised bradford hasn't replaced him yet.

Posted by Anonymous | October 18, 2010 8:44 AM

I will never even try hummus, and its because every fuckin bv post has hummus spam on it.

Posted by Anonymous | October 18, 2010 10:15 AM

to be honest, i love eating hummus, but all these lame ass hummus comments have run their course. they're not funny... just stop.

Posted by Anonymous | October 18, 2010 10:24 AM

Lockett seriously channeling George Harrison circa 1969… 'stache, hair, posture etc.

Posted by kebin | October 18, 2010 11:19 AM

yeah and bradford is clearly channeling lennon from the same time period, songwriting wise at least.

Posted by Anonymous | October 18, 2010 11:35 AM

I've seen Bradford live as Atlas Sound and I found him to be really engaging and kind while onstage. totally unpretentious. there are artists with far less talent that perform with a chip on their shoulder. I don't believe any of the negative posts on here. most of those people negatively post every time.

Posted by Anonymous | October 18, 2010 2:55 PM

i'll be honest, i've heard from people who have worked with him that he's a bit eccentric and has odd outbursts, but from what i saw on friday, he seems like a pretty genuine guy - and the fact that he's uber talented only helps that image.

Posted by Anonymous | October 18, 2010 3:21 PM

@8:44 - As someone else posted out on this thread, Josh is the weakest link musically. However, I get the feeling that personal chemistry in a band like this trumps talent...and you have to admit there's something likable about Josh's dopey stage presence. I bet the band wouldn't be quite the same without him, even despite his musical screw ups.

Posted by anonypus | October 18, 2010 3:42 PM

i dunno if it's musically... i really like his bass playing. it just seems like he can't remember the songs or something. both times i've seen them it's been so obvious that he has missed cues or hit the wrong notes seemingly without even realizing

Posted by Anonymous | October 18, 2010 3:53 PM

maybe he got the disease...

Posted by Anonymous | October 18, 2010 9:01 PM

Josh is listed as the main songwriter for the music on "Nothing Ever Happened"... i think his job's safe..

Bradford might be eccentric or difficult (like many other great artists), but when I met him for a few minutes at a show he came across as a really nice person

Posted by Anonymous | October 18, 2010 9:50 PM

i dont think he is a 'great artist' - they are OK but this band only get the attention they do because the singer looks like a freak and goes with it. it doesnt make him a genius, just easier to market to the geek crowd.

Posted by Anonymous | October 19, 2010 9:14 PM

Dear Anonymous 9:14pm, you are a dick... Bradford actually has a bone disease, but doesn't let it ruin his life!... learn some facts before you call someone a freak!
