M.I.A.

The masses started lining up at 7PM, which was the time people were allowed to start lining up, to checkout M.I.A. with Rye Rye at Brooklyn Bowl last night (10/6). The free show was announced in two parts starting on September 24th and ending with the venue details three days later which was the same night M.I.A. brought her tour to Terminal 5 for a much bigger and not-free NYC show. Having your ticket from HARD Fest wouldn't help you get in the door, but it was a free show nonetheless.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 9:55 AM

The line went all the way down to Soundfix?!

How many people did they actually let in hahahaha

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 9:57 AM

i think everyone by soundfix and forward got in, but the line wrapped all the way around berry and again around north 12th st. lots of dissapointed giggly college kids

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 10:00 AM

Now, she promises to go away right? Hit us up again in 2015, please.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 10:00 AM

i just hate how everyone throw up their cellphones, capturing the moment!, then just listening/dancing/being at a concert.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 10:10 AM

^ makes it really hard to get good shots too... though of course, i'm part of the problem too :)

Posted by chris | October 7, 2010 10:11 AM

what crappy music, and waiting in line in WIlliamsburg for this terrible joke you think is music? you stupid hipster suckers. Enjoy your hummus, dickheads

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 10:23 AM

Way to shill for Bowery Presents and Brooklyn Bowl. I live by there and that line started way before 7. It just was not directly out front of the Bowl. My guess is if you got there at 7 you did not get in.

To the people who lined up for hours and got in, you are suckers and losers to go to this shit show.

To the people who lined up for hours and did not get in, there is no sympathy. You get what you deserve for trying to go to this shit show.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 10:24 AM

Do people actually look at their cellphone pics afterwards? I don't get it...you can just come on here and look at much better pics of shows.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 10:25 AM

The first five comments = new MIA song, please.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 10:28 AM

oh 10:23, please please please tell hipsters what is "real" music. williamsburg awaits with bated breath. /s

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 10:29 AM

The show was fun. I didnt have to wait on line and probly wouldnt have gone if I had to but people really need to lighten up. If you like to cut loose and dance around like a fool for a few hours I dont realy see the harm in it. It's not like (most) people think MIA is the greatest thing in music, it's just kinda fun.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 10:33 AM

yeah if you got there right at 7, the closest you got was the corner of berry and north 12th st. no one that far back had any chance of getting in

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 10:34 AM

what the hell happened to CHERRRRRYYYYY!!!!!

shotguns are so LAST SEASON...

seriously though, the thought of waiting 4+ hours and seeing yet another mediocre performance just didn't have the same ring it might've had last year.

jus sayin.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 10:38 AM

when MIA promised a free show and didnt deliver after the summer show, i was on her case. i bashed her on twitter and let people know it wasnt right.

after last nights show, all is forgiven though. simply epic. Yes, i waited over 4 hours but it was completely worth it. In the grand scheme of things 4 hours isnt a big deal, but the memories of this show will last for years. im still in an MIA induced daze.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 10:58 AM

did anyone stop in to sound fix to buy any new albums?

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 11:01 AM

Epic.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 11:44 AM

I so wish I could have made it!

Posted by Complexitii | October 7, 2010 11:50 AM

brookyln bowl ruined this fucking event! THEY MADE A STRICT RULE NO ONE COULD LINE UP BEFORE 7... so when I dashed there from around the corner at 6:50 and saw this line I WAS PISSED! WAITED HOURS AND DIDN'T GET IN!
SHITTY VENUE
BUT GREAT ARTIST!

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 11:50 AM

sucks..the crowd isnt all even mia fans

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 11:51 AM

Doesn't waiting in line for 4 hours on a Wednesday defeat the purpose of it being a "free" show?

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 11:54 AM

If you're operating under a "time is money" mentality, which clearly most of these jokers are not.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 11:56 AM

11:54, no one in that line understands the concept of opportunity cost

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 11:57 AM

"the memories of this show will last for years"

Anon10:58 - Please tell us you're joking.

Posted by anonypus | October 7, 2010 12:10 PM

in another year or two, you'll all realize what a groundbreaking event this was. not just for new york city's music history, but music history in general.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 12:13 PM

EL OH EL

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 12:15 PM

agreed, i'd put it up there with the historical/cultural significance of woodstock and gathering of the juggalos.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 12:18 PM

lol forever @ 12:13

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 12:18 PM

Waiting on a line for four hours to see MIA is pretty bad, but I'd also like to think that some of the people that lined up spent their time reading a book or writing a paper for class or whatever. So in the opportunity cost analysis, their time on line would not be wasted, they'd be getting something done. Long lines can be an opportunity to concentrate on something, to entertain yourself. Whatever, it's what I do whenever I'm on a line forever. But then again, I didn't go to this, I went to draw at 3rd Ward instead.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 12:30 PM

i got there at 930 and got in :D no need to wait a stupid amount of hours just for a free show. shit was helllla fun just to dance and bug out. you uptight people gotta chill out and stop with your negative and unnecessary comments.

A BIG FUCK YOU TO YOU. I got there at 7 and the line was already in a U shape around the block so there was no regulation.

You must have cut the line or knew someone that let you in you fucking piece of shit.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 2:05 PM

Am I too late for this?

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 2:10 PM

i let someone back-cut me, is that allowed? Some people seemed pissed about it...used to fly at the water fountain line in elementary.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 2:11 PM

boy, you were in elementary when i was graduating clown school

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 2:27 PM

why would anyone wait more than an hour for something for free vs just paying $20 to get in with ease at a regular show? I don't think I would see the resurrection of Jesus if they didn't sell tickets. unless i was on welfare or a Williamsburg college boy.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 4:06 PM

i got there at 10:30 and didn't have to wait on line. it was fun - really enjoyed energy of the crowd. all the haters need to lighten up.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 4:26 PM

how is draw at 3rd ward? sounds fun

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 4:26 PM

"hummus the hate cue." love it!

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 4:26 PM

back-cut! i woulda kicked your f*ckin @ss. that's the main problem with hipsters. not enough violence

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 4:28 PM

nah, the real problem is not enough plaid shirts and beards

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 4:37 PM

She's a proud and talentless warrior!

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 4:56 PM

not enough mia shows

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 4:56 PM

I hear she's pitching a reality show called "MIA the Dipshit Dilettante"

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 5:00 PM

I was third in line, but I texted all my friends and told them to come by. And they texted their friends, and so on. So, anybody from #4 on, sorry! Gosh I like to text.

Posted by RomanHans | October 7, 2010 5:07 PM

Pretty good work here, but I was expecting a little more. This post combines M.I.A., free shows and Brooklyn Bowl so I thought Anons would bring their A game. I rate it a C+ for now. The Voice had a piece on people waiting in line for this and it was amazing. Just as hopelessly naive, trendy, and zombified as you'd hope:

http://blogs.villagevoice.com/music/archives/2010/10/earlier_last_ni.php

Lots o' LOLs there.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 6:16 PM

that piece just killed my soul a little bit

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 6:30 PM

anymore pics anyone?

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2010 8:08 PM

Posted by Anonymous | October 8, 2010 1:08 AM

Posted by Anonymous | October 8, 2010 1:09 AM

fuck lines
show up late
go to front of line and find poor-looking kid
tell him/her "hey, i'll give you $10 to skip."
they inevitably say "yes."
you'll hear some grumblings from various pissed-off fucks from behind
that's the breaks
I DO THIS EVERY FUCKING TIME

Posted by Anonymous | October 8, 2010 3:49 AM

But here is another option:

fuck lines
show up late
go to front of line and find poor-looking kid
tell him/her "hey, i'll give you this small container of hummus if you let me skip."
they inevitably say "yes."
you'll hear some grumblings from various pissed-off fucks from behind
that's the breaks
I DO THIS EVERY FUCKING TIME

Posted by Anonymous | October 8, 2010 5:46 AM
