Aretha Franklin has been ordered by doctors to cancel all personal appearances for the next six months, including her scheduled December concert at the Fox Theatre.

The news comes days after the 68-year-old Detroit star was hospitalized for several days at Sinai-Grace for undisclosed reasons. She’d been forced to cancel shows last week in Missouri and Virginia.

“Doctors’ orders have required her to cancel all concert and personal appearances through May 2011,” publicist Tracey Jordan told the Free Press this morning.

A statement from the singer’s camp said Franklin “sends her sincerest apologies to her loyal followers and colleagues for the canceled shows. [Detroit Free Press]

Those cancellations include the two February shows she was scheduled to play at Radio City Music Hall, and makes four NYC show cancellations in less than a year.

And speaking of artists who recently cancelled a NYC-area show, and then scheduled a new one at Radio City Music Hall, Interpol‘s Radio City show goes on AmEx & WRXP presale on Thursday at 9am, and then on general sale Friday at noon.

Iron & Wine‘s Radio City show is on AmEx presale now, and goes on general sale Friday at 11am.
