Best

I wonder what he thinks of Wavves. Listen to him say it in the Sirius XM clip below...

Bruce Springsteen Likes Best Coast by mexicansummer (via)

Bruce also namechecks Cherry Ghost, Josh Ritter, The Gaslight Anthem, Dropkick Murphy's, and Against Me!.

P.S. select tracks from Bruce's new release "The Promise" are streaming at NPR.

and of course, Best Coast is going on tour with Wavves.

Boss!

remember back in the 90's when Bruce Springsteen's PR hadn't turned him into an elder statesman for rock music yet and he was more of a cheesy, trying-to-hard, cornball who was the anthesis to underground music? Can we go back to those days?

Posted by Fuck A Boss | November 18, 2010 7:25 PM

i'm starting to think BV's own version of the hummus joke is the best coast/wavves joke where they are a part of every post

Pitchfork told me to like Best Coast..so I now like them!

Posted by Anonymous | November 18, 2010 7:37 PM

The picture of him is fascinating...

It's the 3rd phase...looks like a hippie dylan LPs 1 and 2 . . . greasy Elvisish for LP3 . . .

Then he cleans up all nice and New Wavy after "Darkness" has hit big, and "The River" is in his future (1980).

Love that picture artistically.

HA! aww, sometimes less really is more. that was funny. whomever wrote that orginal post, you truly are a fucking idiot.

if you people know nothing about music why do you read a music site?

so confused.

Posted by Anonymous | November 18, 2010 9:04 PM

cherry ghost is so much better than best coast, it's not even funny.

Posted by Anonymous | November 18, 2010 9:48 PM

Just because I love the man doesn't mean I have to agree with him.

Posted by Anonymous | November 18, 2010 11:13 PM

7:25 - "trying-to-hard"?

what are you trying to say? or are YOU trying TOO hard?

Posted by Anonymous | November 18, 2010 11:21 PM

I think Bruce's son (probably 18-20 years old ?) turns him on to a lot of stuff...

He did totally rip off the magnetic fields here.. :)

did some dude just say people who don't like Best Coast don't know anything about music. i mean i don't know many best coast songs but it sure seems like it kinda relies on an absence of recognition doesn't it..it's all just the same reverby little songs? and the beginning of her part in that converse song was ripped straight outta "if i fell" by the beatles. and the guitars are the same and it all sounds like whatever. etc. etc.

i mean it seems kinda fitting that a rock god who probably doesn't have time to follow modern music too hard would enjoy it passingly.

Cool to see Bruce loves Best Coast. So cool that he still is relevant to younger generations with his new album and the "Whip My Hair"-ing the other night!

Posted by Amanda | November 19, 2010 8:06 AM

it's very sweet when a very popular musician tries to help out younger, less-established musicians by giving them a "shout out."

it's kind of sad when a musician name-checks musicians they think are hip or cool or whatever, in an attempt to appear like they are in the know.

i wonder which one this was. good morning fuckers, i'm awesome.

Posted by Anonymous | November 19, 2010 8:24 AM

Well, in that dudes defense - do you REMEMBER dancing in the dark? Seriously?

Posted by Anonymous | November 19, 2010 8:24 AM

8:24 - I know he hasn't specifically helped out all of these acts but he has performed a couple times with The Gaslight Anthem. As a young NJ band there is really nothing better that can happen to your career than performing with Bruce.

Posted by Anonymous | November 19, 2010 9:06 AM

-Collective gasp- is what I thought would happen as soon as people read the title.

Posted by Anonymous | November 19, 2010 10:08 AM

Bruce did not mention Beach Fossils?...lame

Posted by Anonymous | November 19, 2010 10:53 AM

8:24 yeah, but take away the cheesy production value (which sounded dated even at the time) and Dancing in the Dark is interesting song lyrically. Try to find a live acoustic version from the early 90's. It and Brillaint Disguise are probably the two darkest 'pop' single of the 80's. At the very least one has to admit that no one else with that level of exposure was even attempting introspection or intelligence at the time.

Posted by Anonymous | November 19, 2010 12:07 PM

cool that some performers don't even have to hire a street team to do damage control here

Anyway, at least he got one thing right.

uhh 11:59 what are you on about? "relies on an absence of recognition"...? it's totally nostalgia music. seems to me you have to know something about music to get the references. best coast is, like, the amy winehouse of beach music.

He's like 10 years old in the photo.
