DOWNLOAD: Agalloch - "The Watcher's Monolith" (MP3)

Agalloch

Decibel has released their top 40 metal albums of the year, abd Agalloch's Marrow of The Spirit landed at #1. That's the art above. Order a copy now (it is great) and check out a song from that LP above. We followed Agalloch through Eastern Europe earlier this year and interviewed both John Haughm and Aesop Dekker (who also plays drums in another Top 40 band, Ludicra). - BBG

I don't know ANY of those bands aside from Deftones! I'm scared! What's happening?

Posted by steve | November 30, 2010 11:41 AM

People are creaming themselves over the Agalloch record. Calm the fuck down.

Posted by Anonymous | November 30, 2010 11:46 AM

this list is bullshit.. no kanye?

Posted by Anonymous | November 30, 2010 11:52 AM

Agalloch... LOL

cheesy rock kitsch with a few BM elements in the mix. yawn.

Posted by Anonymous | November 30, 2010 12:00 PM

Are the top 3 in English? I cannot pronounce any of those.

Posted by Anonymous | November 30, 2010 12:12 PM

Agalloch sucks

Posted by JT | November 30, 2010 12:14 PM

Triptykon should have been #1...no sarke? anyway not a bad list...

Posted by Anonymous | November 30, 2010 12:20 PM

Decibel: what a crappy overrated magazine. Who cares about its glossy cover, it sucks all the way through! Metal Maniacs is gone and we have this??? Really!

Darkthrone on 40? Lantlos, Father Befouled, The Body, Decripit, Intronaut, all behind Fear Factory and Deftones? Give me a f'n break.

Deathspell on 21 and Enslaved on 6?

Where are Swans? Year Of No Light? Wolvhammer? Weapon? Altar Of Plagues? Alcest? Woe? October Falls? Locrian?

Pfff..

Posted by Anonymous | November 30, 2010 12:22 PM

Kylesa is metal album of the year.

Posted by Anonymous | November 30, 2010 12:29 PM

Lets be real here. Decibel tries to be underground but then puts Gwar on their cover and interviews Oceano.

Posted by Anonymous | November 30, 2010 12:39 PM

@ 12:39

so right. the cover alone should have stopped everyone from paying any attention to anything they have to say.

Posted by Anonymous | November 30, 2010 12:45 PM

...and here comes the Agalloch backlash. Decibel's top choice from last year certainly didn't hold up for long; I believe the Agalloch record won't suffer the same fate and will age much, much better. Here's my bone to pick: Where on earth is Into the Cryosphere? And why isn't V placed a lot higher?

Posted by Anonymous | November 30, 2010 12:47 PM

@12:22 I'm inclined to agree, though I think my favorite this year is the new Harvey Milk. ...which isn't on this list, apparently.

Posted by Jeff | November 30, 2010 12:48 PM

12:47 Into The Cryosphere is kick ass for sure. Ditto on that.

V isnt higher because it has to make room for Fear Factory. Gross.

Posted by Anonymous | November 30, 2010 1:00 PM

THE SWORD? WOW

Posted by Anonymous | November 30, 2010 1:11 PM

Kanye 4eva

Posted by Anonymous | November 30, 2010 1:20 PM

No Alcest?!

Posted by Anonymous | November 30, 2010 1:46 PM

People posting on Brooklyn Vegan complaining about decibel and Gwar being on the cover, seriously??? Shouldn't you all be complaining about Vampire Weekend or Deerhunter???

...and 12:49, there's a reason why Metal Maniacs no longer exists...call it whatever you like, but supply and demand rules the marketplace! Sometimes you have to let the dumb people with bad taste sit at the table if you want to continue having a job.

Posted by Astral Zombie | November 30, 2010 1:47 PM

Oh yeah I hear that Burzum band is amazing. Really love the frontman and junk.

Posted by Anonymous | November 30, 2010 1:52 PM

Where the FU*K is Katy Perry????

Posted by Anonymous | November 30, 2010 2:08 PM

Decibel obviously hasn't heard the newest Ratt album. Hails to Ratt!

Posted by Anonymous | November 30, 2010 2:13 PM

agalloch backlash is hilarious. also the sword fucking sucks. good work decibel. fear factory and deftones? wow.

Posted by Brian | November 30, 2010 2:38 PM

Ah yes, the Harvey Milk album was awesome. Strange omission.

Posted by Anonymous | November 30, 2010 2:55 PM

I can't believe Agalloch agreed to do that Pepsi commercial. The world has gotten really strange.

Posted by Anonymous | November 30, 2010 2:58 PM

i can go along with Triptykon and Electric Wizard, but the rest of that list is a horrible joke.

what about Rotting Christ? Kalmah? Catamenia? Sigh? Mar de Grises? Malmsteen?

...and Ghost is NOT metal, just because 'satan' and '666' are in the lyrics.

Posted by brandonmetal | November 30, 2010 3:13 PM

HIGH ON FIRE should be way higher waaay HIGHER.

Agreed 2:55 no Harvey Milk?

Posted by Anonymous | November 30, 2010 3:54 PM

Blackjazz for fuck's sake!

Posted by Anonymous | November 30, 2010 4:35 PM

@ Brian

new deftones album is great!

Posted by Anonymous | November 30, 2010 4:53 PM

Burzum is my number one for the year. Any top 40 without the new Inquisition on it is lacking. The new Agalloch is overrated and a huge let down from their last. Also, Decibel sucks and reads as if it's written by teenagers for adolescents.

Posted by Anonymous | November 30, 2010 4:59 PM

that mp3 is terrible. the drums are incredibly boring and the song drags so much. how can that be the one track from the #1 album of the year worth sharing

Posted by Anonymous | November 30, 2010 5:21 PM

Rotting Christ, Kalmah, Catamenia, Sigh, Mar de Grises and Malmsteen all suck. faggot.

fuck Decibel for not including the new Starkweather. album of the decade.

Posted by hipsterbrawl | November 30, 2010 7:20 PM

no defeated sanity? no alcest? lots of far more deserving titles missing here, terrible list.

Posted by jew | November 30, 2010 11:02 PM

wait...you mean there are people that take metal seriously? I thought everyone knew that metal is the WWE of music.

Posted by Anonymous | November 30, 2010 11:24 PM

COMMAND + F: "Inquisition Not Found"

Posted by Anonymous | November 30, 2010 11:31 PM

"I thought everyone knew that metal is the WWE of music."

I thought everyone knew you were an unintelligent pussy

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2010 12:19 AM

Danzig's latest album was far better than most of this shite.

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2010 1:15 AM

As all of the lists prove:

2010 = rock music of whatever genre RIP

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2010 1:17 AM

fuck all of this. has anyone checked out the Tinsel Teeth pics?

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2010 2:58 AM

where the fuck IS the harvey milk record?!

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2010 8:43 AM

Who in the hell are these bands????

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2010 10:37 AM

"wait...you mean there are people that take metal seriously? I thought everyone knew that metal is the WWE of music." As opposed to trust fund sweater pop?

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2010 10:38 AM

Yes, metal is no good, here we only love trust fund dipsters wearing ironic clothing who are in bands with cutesy animal names, usually with some permutation of "bear" in them.

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2010 11:05 AM

where's Ihsahn?

Posted by rob fiasco | December 1, 2010 2:41 PM

High on Fire and Unearthly Trance should be a lot higher. Plus, both the new Harvey Milk and Daughters records should be on the list.

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2010 8:07 PM

DANZIG - DETH RED SABOATH KILLS ALL OF THIS CRAP DEAD.

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2010 9:05 PM

I think you're on to something, 11:05 AM.

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2010 10:02 PM

1349 - Demonoir, where's that?

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2010 9:05 PM

Drudkh
Blood of Kingu

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2010 9:07 PM

Even got nu metal wrong, fear factory above deftones? ?????

Posted by Anonymous | December 3, 2010 8:09 AM

I would definately add Slough Feg, Weapon, and maybe Yakuza.

Posted by Brendan B | December 3, 2010 9:35 AM

The Inquisition is a re-issue btw. The new Melechesh should be up there.

Posted by Anonymous | December 3, 2010 11:41 AM

A bunch of bullshit is what this list is. 2010 was one of the biggest years for thrash metal albums ever. Yet NONE of them made the top 40 but the fucking Deftones did??? For real? The Deftones? And I thought Guitar World made shitty top releases lists.

Posted by Michael Frost | December 4, 2010 10:09 AM

Castevet and The Body should be higher on the list. Salome, Daughters, Black Tusk, Howl, and Clinging To The Trees Of A Forest Fire should all be on there too.

Posted by Anonymous | December 4, 2010 11:40 AM

Black Tusk suck. Salome should be up there tho.

Posted by Anonymous | December 4, 2010 7:16 PM

Denouncement Pyre!

Posted by Anonymous | December 4, 2010 9:29 PM

@Michael Frost

LOL @ thrash metal in 2010.

Posted by boner jam | December 5, 2010 6:58 AM

More than half this list is crap come on! Metal is everywhere, not just your backyard!

Posted by Dave | December 13, 2010 11:51 PM

Pivixki?! Really ! WTF, a shitty drummer and piano player isnt really a band or duo for that matter

Posted by Anonymous | December 14, 2010 12:03 AM

Fuck haters, new Deftones kicked ass. Best album they've ever made, but some people are too kvlt to admit a mainstream band can be awesome. Mad props for inclusion of Horseback too. Now where the fuck is The Ocean- Anthropocentric, Bison B.C.- Dark Ages, and The Sword- Warp Riders?

Posted by Howie | December 17, 2010 1:06 PM

No Weapon, Trauma, The Wakedead Gathering, The Ocean, Exodus, Overkill, Forbidden, Inquisition, Starkweather, Bastard Priest, Black Breath, Cephalic Carnage, NEGURA BUNGET... equals utter failure.

But then, it's Decibel.

Posted by GDubya | December 19, 2010 4:00 PM

Relapse record metalheads bitching about Decibel magazine's attempted 'top 40 metal albums of the year', its funny people actually read/care about that cheesy garbage. Decibel is also the same joke of a magazine that put Discordance axis and Assuck on the back of their 'best grindcore albums of all time list' in favor for some pseudo boring butt grinders with photo shopped album cover who name themselves after their favorite grind albums that they sport on their freshly silked screened T's.

do yourselves a favor and throw away your 'kill the client' coffee mugs and buy yourselves a ticket for judas priest's last tour. its probably the most metal you'll ever experience in one sitting than all the crap that litters your borrowed sisters ipod.

ps. kylesa's new album sucked terribly

pps. cool cats harvey milk rock the shit out of most of these bands and dont need to be on any 'best metal album' list.

Posted by Anonymous | December 21, 2010 11:23 PM

Okay, how about we all agree on this:

"TOP ____" LISTS ALWAYS SUCK. AND PEOPLE ALWAYS BITCH ABOUT THEM.

And let's all be glad that Brokencyde's new album didn't make the list.
