Man or Astroman? @ Bowery Ballroom
Man Or Astroman?

"The heart of the band is in the live shows... it's a wild event. ...The original core three-members, who go by the name ??Star Crunch, Coco and Birdstuff, are stll performing the same antics since back in the day. They come out in uniform, a sort of low-rent space jumpsuit, and they play around with being from outer space... Then there are the pyrotechnics, where Coco sets a theremin on fire and still plays it. Back in the day, he used to stick a TV over his head and set that on fire. When I saw that as a teenager, it was pretty much the best thing I've ever seen in a concert...

The end result with all these theatrics is a must-see live experience. There's nothing boring about it. ...I love the gusto that Man or Astro-man? put on stage. They are just as tight as they were back in the 90s. Everything is played at full-throttle, which makes the crowd gets all hyped-up." [Music Snobbery]

That review refers to Man or Astroman?'s Friday night show at Bowery Ballroom, part of a weekend in the Northeast for the reactivated surf rockers that also included a show at Music Hall of Williamsburg the next night (11/13), and from our collective experiences of seeing the band recently in Austin and Toronto, we couldn't agree more.

Nightmare Waterfall and the Dex Romweber Duo opened all the recent Man of Astroman? shows of which there are no more currently scheduled for the future (for now?). More pictures and some video from Bowery Ballroom, below...

Definitely a great show. Also, their merch is hilarious. Space dust?

The show was enjoyable, but they weren't nearly as tight as they used to be. And I felt the banter was a little lacking.

Still a really fun show though, and I hold them to very high standards.

bowery show was great. it'd been a long time, and they didn't disappoint in the least.

there was a situation up in front with some d-bag photographer forcing himself in front of the actual fans. i guess this happens at every show these days because they're *events* and *must* be documented for all time on sites such as this one.

but this particular bearded hoodie-wearing gentleman forced himself in front of a rabid female (!) fan who wasn't having it. tension was getting a little high, and a scuffle ensued. at which point a large security guy came over, and this jagoff whines that "she hit me!" and the security guard forces her to leave. forces AN ACTUAL FAN who was enjoying the show to leave because some stupid scene photographer got his dirty hair messed up. lame.

Actually she got kicked out for stagediving, and pulling some handsome anonymous dude's hair, as well as yanking on the cameras equipment while trying to stage dive. The cameraman wasn't in anyones way.

Sorry Cokie!

Also astroman were as tight as they were in '97, sorry adam.

yo 12:28-
I was standing right next to this.
that chick was too fat to be forced in front of.
not to mention she was drunk as fuck, bothering everyone around her, including myself, who was grateful when security finally came over.
that dude wasn't doing anything but his job.
regardless, he informed the security guy that she tried to knock his camera out of his hand, not that she hit him (which she did).
behavior like this isn't warranted no matter what the situation.
plus, if that dude wasn't there shooting the show, while you were busy taking shitty iphone photos, you would have no place to come and run your mouth. so go back to new jersey., and let people do their thing.

if that chick was a dude, she would have gotten knocked the fuck out, by myself and most others around her.
