Tame Impala
Tame Impala

[At their first of two shows at Bowery Ballroom (11/18)], Tame Impala wowed a very sold out crowd... Though lead singer, Kevin Parker, gripped his throat throughout the set due to his strained voice, no one could complain about the band's gripping presence... Coupled with a stellar projector show of squiggles that danced to Parker's riffs, the band completely blew everyone's collective wig off with grinding guitar squeals and hardened, rhythmic percussion... Had Parker's voice been in perfect form, no one would have noticed. Lyrics are back-benched here in favor of psychedelic washes of sound. There was a wall of finely controlled squall that held us all rapt. [A Heart is a Spade]
I have to agree with the band blowing everyone's wigs off, though I saw Tame Impala's second Bowery Ballroom show which took place one night later (11/19). We already posted pictures from the first night. This set of pictures is from night two which Stardeath & White Dwarfs and Kuroma also opened. All three bands are still on tour.

Kuroma: is the singer/guitar player the former guitar player of MGMT?

Was there and bought a t-shirt because it was some of the best guitar rips I have ever heard in my life. Mark my words when I say this band will have many national hits over time.

they are pretty sick, but will never ever have a national hit...ever

A Heart is a Spade must have been on some good E or something. The singer blew out his voice about 3-4 songs in and sounded terrible for the rest of the show croaking trying to sing but being so far away from the key the band was in it was like they were on different planets. The mix was unusually bad for the Bowery w the drums sounding like a set of cardboard boxes. At least 10 people i know who rate this album as one of the years best left early and disappointed stating "the show was no where near as good as the record".

And yes 10:03 this band will NEVER have a national hit. A song placed in "The Kids are Alright" yes...a national hit no!

i don't know or care about this "national hit" horseshit, but tame impala are going to be like the stone roses were in the 90's, except bigger. you'll see.

You all suck! This Band Rocks better than %90 of brooklyn hipsters who can barely play their instruments and get by on there pathetic sense of style....some of the worst music in the country is coming out of NYC these days....

This was a great concert!! And yes, Hank the singer from Kuroma used to be in MGMT. Speaking of MGMT, a bunch of the guys from the band were in the audience and I got to meet them!
I took that video for "Alter Ego".

I left early..a few songs in Tame Impala's set. I was looking forward to the show , but the band had zero stage presence / energy. Shame..

Tame Impala's music is more about the listening experience... not so much the visual aesthetic.

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2010 2:06 AM

i agree tame impala is more about listening. The reason they stand still is even they're playing the music, they like to listen to their soundscapes too.

I think we need to bring more ideas for this purpose. Involvement of young people can be handy in this regard. I am happy to find a good post here. Thank you. I like this post very much, please write more and more.
