DOWNLOAD: The Black Angels - "Telephone" (MP3)
Black Mountain

[The Black Angels] opened [the Bowery Ballroom show] with "You On The Run," a head bobbing shoegazy track filled with Velvet Underground-esque drone replete with tambourines and fuzzy guitars... The Angels pulled songs equally from all three albums, slightly favoring their first, Passover...The band hit a stride with the last three tracks before the closer: "Young Men Dead," "The First Vietnamese War," and "Better Off Alone"--all from their first album. Black Mountain's Stephen McBean played acoustic on the last song of the set appropriately dubbed "Entrance Song"--A melodic trip with purposely-wobbly vocals and heart-thumping drumbeat. -[Death + Taxes]Black Mountain and the Black Angels are still on tour, but completed their two-show NYC run last night, 11/4, at Music Hall of Williamsburg (where Angels headlined). The pictures in this post, from the Bowery Ballroom show the night before (where Mountains headlined), continue (with the Angels' setlist) below...

The crowd at Bowery Ballroom was absolutely terrible. I'm not one usually to complain about crowds, but after the Black Angels fairly epic opening set, people pretty much cleared out for Black Mountain, and many who stayed were very actively disinterested in their performance. Black Mountain's new material is pretty weak, and that dragged down their show, but by the time they absolutely slayed "Tyrants" and "Druganaut," the audience I think was already checked out. It was really too bad, but perhaps Angels should be headlining every night... their set was much more "headline-ish" than Mountain's.

That review is really bad. A, they didnt play First Vietnamese War and B, McBean played True Believers with The Black Angels not Entrance Song. Know your shit before you post it online please.

people were leaving after the black angels at bowery because they had gotten so high for their set that they had extreme munchies.. the close proximety of mamoun's, hummus place, chick pea, tahini, and cheep's is too tempting..

people got so high at chick pea after the Angels they forgot where the venue was, so they spent the rest of the night trying to locate Attorney Street, thinking the Sin-e was still open.
