Busta Rhymes at Knitting Factory in 2008, a venue he WON'T be performing at this week (more by Zach Stern)
Busta Rhymes

Busta Rhymes has announced that he will join Slaughterhouse member Joell Ortiz for a show at SOB's on Thursday, 12/23. Tickets are still available. Whether intentional or not, the show is in direct competition with a show that he-probably-could-but-is-not-making-an-appearance-at, Leaders of The New School at Knitting Factory. Tickets are still available for that too. As you may know, Busta Rhymes was a member of Leaders of the New School before splitting to release his own solo material. - BBG

A flyer for the Knitting Factory show is below...

Sort of an asshole move by Busta. By all means, if he doesn't want to be involved in Dinco's cash grab, then don't do it. But directly competing with it seems pretty fucking petty.

Busta Rhymes kinda sucks now. Obviously his 1st solo album was amazing, but now it's just bland like hummus without the tahini.

1.) I highly highly doubt the LONS show is a 'cash grab'. You got to give it up to the promoter, a great NYC journalist Jesse Sewer, whom is doing a book on Long Island's hip-hop history. These are all Long Island artists.

2.) Got to show appreciation to BK Vegan for providing some air-time for hip-hop shows in NYC, with some degree of tact & thoughtfulness. When covered, It's always covered here in detail. I would have had no idea that Busta would be playing at SOB's if it wasn't for this post. Granted the comments on hip-hop shows are usually scant and usually misinformed, BKV should know it's appreciated. Thanks

Joell is the best rapper going right now. Easily trounces any other guys coming out of NY at the moment, in addition to any shitty mainstream hip hop that all the critics are sucking off.

I saw his last SOB's show. It was great, lots of great guest appearances. I'm not gonna be able to make Thursday's show, but I bet it wont dissapoint.

Macarena tiene un novio que se llama
Que se llama de apellido Vitorino,
Que en la jura de bandera el muchacho
Se la dio con dos amigos

Macarena, Macarena, Macarena
Que le gusta los veranos de Marbella
Macarena, Macarena, Macarena
Que le gusta la movida guerrilera

Macarena sueña con El Corte Ingles
Que se compra los modelos mas modernos
Le gustaria vivir en Nueva York
Y ligar un novio nuevo
AAAAhAA!!

When I dance they call me Macarena
And the boys they say que soy buena
They all want me, they can't have me
So they all come and dance beside me
Move with me, chat with me
And if I could I'd take you home with me

Now don't you worry about my boyfriend
The boy who's name is Vitorino
I don't want him, couldn't stand him
He was no good so I
Now come on, what was I suppose to do
He was out of town and his two friends were so fine

Come find me, my name is Macarena
Always at the party con las chicas que estan buenas
Come join me, dance with me
And all you fellas chat along with me

When Tracy Morgan raps with Busta, that's when I know the apocalypse will have come to Brooklyn.

Busta is going to replace Anderson Cooper on CNN, I heard.

Sick of this “cash grab” shit, aren’t you mugs happy to see bands play in the recusant past musicians had the luxury of ego (IE; not having to deal with feuding band mates) and could live of their publishing checks. Only time you can say definitively if it was “cash grab” is after the show if the performance was unrehearsed and poorly executed and I don’t give a shit if the band “looks like there having fun”.
