DOWNLOAD: Disappears - Superstition (MP3)

one of them is no longer in the band...

Chicago's awesome Disappears will release their second album, Guider, on January 17 via Kranky. If you heard their debut, Lux, from this year you know what to expect: pummeling, droney, motorik punk, in the sonic wheelhouse where the Stooges run headfirst into Spacemen 3 at a Neu! concert. You can download Guider's lead track, "Superstition," above. You can also watch video of the band performing the actual session that became the album track at the bottom of this post.

The band will be in NYC later that same week for two shows: Wednesday, January 19 at Union Pool and Thursday, January 20 at Cake Shop. I recommend you clear your schedule one of those nights to see them. Their performance at Union Pool back in June pretty much knocked me on my ass. Their records are great, but don't quite convey the intensity of these guys live. Disappears lock into a groove, step on the gas and pile drive it into you. I shot some video of that show that you can watch at the bottom of this post.

Now some bad news/good news. Drummer and founding member Graeme Gibson has left the band: "Totally amicable split - he's moving to a new town and has some awesome opportunities ahead, we couldn't be happier for him" reads a note from the band on their website. Filling in for him for the time being is Sonic Youth's Steve Shelley who should do all right on the kit, especially given his previous guest drumming duties for Hallogallo.

After the NYC dates, Disappears have a few Midwest shows before heading off to Europe in February. All 2011 tour dates, plus some video, is after the jump.
