Friendly Fires at Webster Hall in 2009 (more by Paul Birman)
Friendly Fires

It has been just over a year since UK dance-punks Friendly Fires were last in NYC (at Webster Hall with the xx). And while the band still isn't heading out on a full-blown US tour, they do have a new pair of US dates set for the new year. Friendly Fires will play Bowery Ballroom in NYC on 2/7 and Los Angeles at The Roxy on 2/9. Bowery tickets are currently on AMEX presale and go on regular sale at noon on Friday, 12/10.

Friendly Fires is currently working on a new LP, due Spring 2011 via their label XL, but recently dropped a mix CD for K7 Records:

"Friendly Fires have dance music in their blood. Other indie rock bands may flirt with club culture, but Ed Macfarlane (vocals, bass, synth), Edd Gibson (guitar) and Jack Savidge (drums) live it and breathe it. "When we formed the band one of the main things we wanted to do was make danceable music because dance music was one of the things we bonded over," explains Savidge. The three of them grew up listening to Warp, and Macfarlane released tracks on respected Manchester electronic imprint Skam and Hooj Choons offshoot Precinct. "I mean, I've been DJing for longer than Friendly Fires has existed," concludes Savidge."
The new mix disc, Bugged Out! Suck My Deck mixed by Friendly Fires, contains tracks from The Egyptian Lover, The Phenomenal Handclap Band, Lindstrom & Christabelle, Alan Fitzpatrick, and many many others and is available now.

What's with the downgrade in venue?

For fans, Bowery Ballroom is definitely an upgrade from webster hall... as much fun as that show was..

This is @905 again. I agree @931, and those shows with White Lies a couple years ago were about as much fun as somebody should have at a concert.

But, why is the size size of venue regressing for them? Especially when every other concievable act are playing venues far out of thier reach (Cold War Kids - RCMH, Wavves/Best Coast - Webster Hall and MHOW, etc...)?

Friendly Fires did an excellent Essential Mix last year (06.27.2009); really good deep house mix. Google it/ DL it.

they're just warm up shows- that's why they're smaller
