Guided by Voices @ Terminal 5 (more by Chris Gersbeck)
Guided By Voices

As people have theorized in the comments many times, the reunited classic lineup of Guided By Voices will play a show at Maxwell's in Hoboken, the NJ venue they've played many times, and it will happen on Thursday, December 30th, one day before they play a New Years Eve show at Irving Plaza. Tickets are $75 and on sale at noon.

$75?! Might as well cash it in, I suppose.

this is how not to do a reunion...enjoy new kids...ill stick to remembering them in 94.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2010 9:49 AM

How many times has this band played Maxwell's? I think last time was October 19, 2001?

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2010 9:49 AM

$75 is a lot

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2010 9:52 AM

I was hoping to buy tickets and make a huge profit on stubhub...

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2010 9:55 AM

aging indie rock fags will gladly fork over the 75 bones to see the nostalgia act.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2010 9:56 AM

Never understood the live appeal. Pollard tunelessly shouting out the songs with no hint of the vocal melodies on the records, which make the songs good. Is it because they drink a lot? Another band this reminds me of is Mudhoney. Known people into them who rave about their sloppy live shows, and how drunk they were.

Posted by not a true gbv fan | December 17, 2010 10:00 AM

i was willing to pay up to and including 74.99

too bad.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2010 10:01 AM

how else will they make 10K?!

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2010 10:02 AM

10:00 - Mudhoney is one of the best live acts around and pretty sure Mark Arm has been sober for years...

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2010 10:04 AM

It's nice to be able to read.

Bless us, oh Lord and these comments which we're about to read...from thy bounty and Christ our Lord...

Amen.

Posted by helix | December 17, 2010 10:17 AM

$75! Wow are shows at Maxwells ever over $30? If I were to go I would just stand in the hallway outside the door..you can hear fine and no one will bother you and you can save $75!

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2010 10:19 AM

you guys are fuckin retarded.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2010 10:31 AM

Why should the money go to the scalpers?

man, tobin sprout is super bald.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2010 10:40 AM

Such a blatant cash-grab reunion. I wonder if they even enjoy playing the songs anymore. And even if they do, for 75$ fuck 'em

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2010 10:43 AM

Why didn't pavement play at Maxwell's:(

How does it feel to assfuck each other on a busted out sofa in Williamsburg to the soothing sounds of Tallest Man On Earth you sweater nerds?

"Such a blatant cash-grab reunion. I wonder if they even enjoy playing the songs anymore. And even if they do, for 75$ fuck 'em"

Posted by helix | December 17, 2010 10:59 AM

how old are these cunts? 22?

Posted by Mr. Boh | December 17, 2010 11:01 AM

Yeah if Pavement played Maxwells tickets would have been $100

its a tiny tiny place... 200 capacity.. people who say "cash grab" etc are people that don't have one marketable skill and will never be in position to even have to make decision on whether to "take the money" or not...because it wont ever be offered to them...

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2010 11:03 AM

>man, tobin sprout is super bald.

Go dive under the L train, you fucking creep.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2010 11:16 AM

Pavement sucks. Cash grabbers

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2010 11:18 AM

"Motor Away" from recent Terminal 5 show:

http://www.thesoundofindie.com/2010/11/10/guided-by-voices-motor-away-live/

Sounds great. Definitely not phoned in. Sounds better than the record, if you ask me.

Posted by r.bert | December 17, 2010 11:19 AM

Call me old, but at least I say this band in it's prime at Maxwell's in the 90's, early 2000's. I would never fork over $75 to see this band ever...

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2010 11:20 AM

If the 90's early 2000 is their prime I would hate to see them now. Saw them in 99 and 01?

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2010 11:34 AM

Man, I was so bummed that Robin signed on for another 5 years with Stern. The show would have really improved with her leaving.

Posted by T. McCartney Thread | December 17, 2010 11:43 AM

:crying:

Posted by Sal the Stockbroker | December 17, 2010 11:49 AM

This will surely sell out in 5 minutes but I'm gonna do my best! Eveyone bitching about this being a cash grab, your loss. Enjoy whatever disposable indie garbage you are currently listening to that no one will care about this time next year.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2010 11:54 AM

Will call only! Damnit!!!!!!! No stubhub for me!

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2010 12:02 PM

I wonder if they will have a piss and puke bucket onstage?!

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2010 12:02 PM

Tickets were $82.13 with fees and it was will call only. I got through on ticket fly, but passed.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2010 12:03 PM

Why 12:03 cause you thought you were going to sell it?

Oh well sold out in 3 mins!

I wonder who will be opening this show...

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2010 12:05 PM

Probably betting on Doug Gillard 12:05.

Got my ticket and am happy to rock out two nights in a row.

Posted by citybug | December 17, 2010 12:15 PM

Chances are Doug Gillard will be opening this show as well.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2010 12:15 PM

not sold out

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2010 12:34 PM

Amplified to rock. And too true, 11:43.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2010 12:38 PM

>man, tobin sprout is super bald.

>Go dive under the L train, you fucking creep.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2010 1:31 PM

1:41 and it's still not sold out?

Gotta say I'm surprised.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2010 1:41 PM

"How does it feel to assfuck each other on a busted out sofa in Williamsburg to the soothing sounds of Tallest Man On Earth you sweater nerds?" - Mr. Boh

Hey Mr. Boh, you should try it, you might get rid of some of that anger you got there, buddy! Feels great!

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2010 1:48 PM

2:08. Sold out. Finally.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2010 2:08 PM

Was this specifically listed as 21+ or didn't it say?

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2010 5:41 PM

maxwell's is a small venue. would you rather see them AT T5?

Posted by Anonymous | December 18, 2010 2:46 AM

hummus prevents baldness

Posted by Anonymous | December 18, 2010 2:47 AM

Phyto-Nutrients is what you need... I can tell by your sluggish disco moves you are deficient. Here, I will give you a lil bit, the next song is good and you are gonna need it when the bassline comes on. Let me borrow you spoon, I will hook you up.

Posted by Anonymous | December 18, 2010 3:22 AM

Decent cum only.

Posted by Anonymous | December 18, 2010 5:58 AM

if anyone has an extra ticket to sell, please sell me one. thanks! http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/tix/2118997502.html

Posted by Anonymous | December 18, 2010 9:14 AM

If it was a cash grab, they would play a larger venue where they could make more money.

Posted by Anonymous | December 18, 2010 9:45 AM

It is a cash grab. If the venue is SMALLER then the admission should be CHEAPER. Are you going to pay the same price at Madison square garden that you would at Joes Franks n Beans Pub?

Posted by Anonymous | December 18, 2010 10:49 AM

10:49 -- Your comment is stupid. I would pay MORE to see a band at a smaller venue. Who the hell wouldn't?

Posted by Anonymous | December 18, 2010 11:13 PM

I've seen more talent on Showtime At The Apollo.

Posted by Anonymous | December 18, 2010 11:34 PM

This band sure has some shitty meathead fans.

Posted by Anonymous | December 19, 2010 1:00 AM

Acidic Jews

Posted by God | December 19, 2010 1:16 AM

10:49 is obviously clueless about the concept of supply and demand...

Posted by Anonymous | December 20, 2010 11:03 AM

Just going out on a limb here but I think the thing about Garden tickets costing more than Maxwell's tickets has a little more to do with the popularity of the bands involved.

Posted by Anonymous | December 20, 2010 11:50 AM

Terminal 5 show was one of the year's best. Seeing them in Maxwells sounds like an excellent way to spend an evening. If you got tix you got lucky.

Posted by Anonymous | December 20, 2010 11:58 AM

@5:41

All ages, confirmed directly by Maxwell's staff that I spoke to. Personally, I'm shocked. But let's all take tequila shots off of Uncle Bob's ass and get drunk anyway.

Posted by Anonymous | December 20, 2010 9:46 PM

Has there been any confirmation of Gillard opening this show as well?

Posted by A Tree | December 29, 2010 9:28 AM
