anyone know if there's another website or maybe something you sign up for that tells you all the new york tickets that go onsale in a particular week.

like brooklyn vegan, but no comments/reviews and it mentions all shows (or ones you sign up for) and not just ones that brooklyn vegan likes.

Bert Jansch @ Iridium WAS so great to see--too bad the jazzbo necromancers who ran the club botched the mood so many times I if I wrote them, you'd all be like "No man, really. I think you need to dial back the exaggerations a bit."

But here goes; at the early show:

They mispronounced his name repeatedly calling him "Bert Janish"--I did not know that he had become a Jewish guy from Queens. What did they call Jeff Beck when he came to sit in? "Jeff Beak?" What about Prince..."Ladies and Gents...Misterrrrrr Princhse!"

They could not reign in the people in the front row who kept taking his picture. He actually had to politely tell them to stop. Etiquitte anyone? Nah...who cares how the performer feels.

Jansch started the night by saying that his soundcheck was so loud (as the bartenders were setting up)...and then he stopped himself...then he told the crowd anyway. I wonder if what happened afterward was payback by bad hosts.

The soundman (who opened the night himself with his bad Chet Atkins rip-off and his flute playing wife) gave this legendary performer a bad lead cable and his guitar kept cutting in and out with loud pops and no attempt to remedy the sound. Soundman (Les Paul's former guitar tech...oooohhh....) made sure to botch the "legendary Les Paul Trio" (who sucked, sorry...give it up guys...you're golden goose died a year ago) and their sound too--did not even mic the piano until 3 songs into the set...messed up the bass sound, too.

During his set...playing songs like "Black Water Side," Jansch kept asking "Did you hear me cut out?"

Seriously...it was not some daily outrage...it was embarassing. I wondered repeatedly if it was deliberate subterfuge.

Bert was such a classy guy, though. I felt bad for him.
