Jeff Tweedy & Eugene Mirman last night (via widder_twidder)
Tweedy

Jeff Tweedy was in fact the opener for Yo La Tengo at Maxwell's last night (12/3). He also later joined the band as a guest. Stay tuned for a full set of pictures, but you can check out the setlist below. YLT & Jeff played Wilco songs. Who will open for Yo La Tengo tonight?

Jeff Tweedy continues his NYC-area run tonight at Bowery Ballroom with two of his Wilco bandmates, John Stirratt and Pat Sansone, in the opening band. The Autumn Defense are also playing the Living Room on Sunday which is the night off from their short tour with Jeff.

Nels Cline arrives on Monday to help celebrate Yuka Honda's 50th birthday. Nels also plays a NYC show on January 8th as part of Winter Jazzfest, and he has many other shows scheduled all over the place.

Who?

That was a truly amazing night. Tweedy was great. The kids singing to start the night was a treat. YLT with Tweedy sitting in and then Kid Congo for the encore. It's going to be hard to top that show.

Posted by Anonymous | December 4, 2010 12:36 PM

12:36, total nerd moron. It will be topped. Tonight the real lucky Tweedy fans get the full plate.

Posted by Anonymous | December 4, 2010 12:37 PM

12:36 here, douche. I'll be at the show tonight, too. If they can top last night, that will be great work. I hope they do. If you were actually there last night, you would know how good that show was. Chances are you weren't so your opinion isn't worth shit.

Posted by Anonymous | December 4, 2010 12:43 PM

!2:37, actually I was there so yes you are perfectly correct calling yourself a douche. I was right up front probably closer than you. Also, spoke to Tweedy for a bit after the show. So shove that foot right up your fucking mouth.

And yes it was a great show. Most of the YLT Hannukah shows are. I have been to probably many more than you over the years. Not a "truly amazing" show but douches like you always try to over hype things.

I am much more excited for tonight which really should be "truly amazing"

Posted by Anonymous | December 4, 2010 12:53 PM

Look out for the Douche Parade up in this joint!

Posted by Anonymous | December 4, 2010 1:02 PM

yeah jeez settle down LADIES.

Posted by Anonymous | December 4, 2010 1:07 PM

Nice reading comprehension. Congrats on talking to Tweedy. I'm sure he was thrilled. Splitting hairs between "great" and "truly amazing" doesn't interest me. I don't think I'm over hyping a night where Jeff Tweedy opened for Yo La Tengo and then played with them for half their set. I was up front last night, but probably not "right up front" like you. I feel so inferior.

I'm seeing Tweedy tonight as well. Glad to know I can't possibly be the biggest fan in the building with you there. Maybe you can entertain him before or after the show with more of your engaging conversation.

This comments thread is already off to a great start, let's keep it going kids!

Posted by Anonymous | December 4, 2010 1:08 PM

if only lux and chilton came dow from above! That would be truely amazing! lets stop rating and be stoked on an awesome festival of lights!!!

Posted by Anonymous | December 4, 2010 1:14 PM

oh, yeah, i saw yo la tengo with alex chilton a few years back at maxwells.

so fuck all y'all.

Posted by Anonymous | December 4, 2010 1:25 PM

"Nice reading comprehension"

Obviously I was fucking around with you and the douche comment. Nice to not get that. Obviously I know you were not calling yourself a douche although you clearly are one. I guess you were so angry you could not pick that up. Idiot. And oh don't be so hateful cause I spoke to Tweedy. I am sure you would have if you could of course to tell him how "truly amazing" the show was. I do agree with you that you should feel inferior though.

Posted by Anonymous | December 4, 2010 1:28 PM

How could you of spoken to Jeff after the show? Ira said Jeff had to leave.

Posted by Anonymous | December 4, 2010 1:37 PM

I doubt that guy was even there

Posted by Anonymous | December 4, 2010 1:38 PM

"oh, yeah, i saw yo la tengo with alex chilton a few years back at maxwells."

Alex Chilton sucked the past several years before his death. It was like watching an accountant sing karaoke. So if you are proud of seeing him, good for you.

Posted by Anonymous | December 4, 2010 1:47 PM

Oh yeah?! I watched the whole show from the inside of Georgias kick drum. Afterward, I had an orgy with Ira, Jeff Tweedy, Georgia, Alex Chilton's corpse and one of the kids from the choir. Last year they lied about not having Hanukkah shows. They had NINE of them and I was the only one invited. All of this years shows are corny. I'm typing this from the future where I am at night one of next years show RIGHT NOW. Put that in your pipe and smoke it people!

i douche with hummus

Posted by Anonymous | December 4, 2010 1:50 PM

we can argue all day about hummus this, hummus that, but honestly, it all comes down to hummusPr

Posted by Anonymous | December 4, 2010 1:53 PM

1:28 displaying that rapier like wit that enchanted Tweedy during their heart to heart last night. Well done. Anyone want to talk about the show?

Posted by Anonymous | December 4, 2010 1:56 PM

With the likes of these toolbags in this thread, you'd think Justin Bieber opened for YLT last night.

Posted by Anonymous | December 4, 2010 1:58 PM

12:36 & 12:37 are the same person.

Posted by Anonymous | December 4, 2010 1:58 PM

i saw justin bieber in the elysian school choir

Posted by Anonymous | December 4, 2010 2:03 PM

hilarious, 149p

Posted by Anonymous | December 4, 2010 2:22 PM

lovely how these shows bring out the holiday spirit in everyone...

Posted by Anonymous | December 4, 2010 2:27 PM

Glad you douchebags enjoyed watching some asshole (who's only worthwhile post-Tupelo moment dropped 10 fucking years ago) sit in with over-the-hill dork icons who haven't been relevant since the 90s. If you wanted to see something that was actually "truly amazing" and relevant to what's going on NOW, in 2010, you would have been at Kurt Vile at the Knitting Factory. WAIT, YOU PROBABLY HAVEN'T EVEN HEARD OF HIM.

Posted by Anonymous | December 4, 2010 3:01 PM

everyone sucks. everyone is an asshole. i hate everything. blah blah blah.

Posted by Anonymous | December 4, 2010 3:03 PM

No, no don't fight! You're all losers!

Posted by Anonymous | December 4, 2010 3:10 PM

Admittedly No La Tengo and Tweedy aren't what they used to be, but bringing up Kurt Vile as "relevant"? To paraphrase Albini, "Read your post and put it away for ten years. See if you don't feel like an idiot when you re-read it"

Posted by Crosseyed Sniper | December 4, 2010 3:16 PM

Yeah, 3:01, and in 10 years, you'll be the douchebag, Kurt Vile will be the asshole, and I dunno, any band with "Wolf" in their name will be the over-the-hill dork icons. If you're going to want to see something "truly amazing" and relevant to what's going on THEN, in 2020, the cool kids will be at Dickstuffer at a new venue called Crapstank Nutsack. WAIT, YOU PROBABLY HAVEN'T EVEN HEARD OF THEM.

Posted by Anonymous | December 4, 2010 4:45 PM

DOES ARCADE DIRE LIKE HUMMUS?

Posted by Anonymous | December 4, 2010 4:48 PM

you indie douches dont know a real show.

the real show was hot tuna at the beacon last night.

i like tweedy and all, but hes just a (whiny?) decent singer-songwriter, built the fuck up by pretentious bloggers, and internet weasels.

so your little YLT/Tweedy show has already been topped many many times this week alone, like most of you pretentious indie douchebags.

you should all spend a few minutes in a cbgbs hardcore matinee moshpit, and youll come out real men and women.

but you wont, so enjoy the soft rock, you ball-less indie fuckers!!!

12:36, 12:37 and 1:58 are all the same person.

Posted by Anonymous | December 4, 2010 5:41 PM

wow was hoping to find out something informative from this awesome sounding show by checking this post...huge mistake.

Posted by Anonymous | December 4, 2010 8:02 PM

Show was overall solid. The kids choir was fantastic. I was standing next to Ira and Georgia for the choir songs, and they loved it. Pretty cool to do work with eight different charities every holiday season.

Tweedy was very good, but his jamming with the band on Motel 6 was intense. You can tell he does not get to shred too much nowadays, especially with Nels in Wilco.

YLT was, once again, superb. The only thing lacking at Maxwell's are polite people. Great staff, great "security" (no real need for much crowd control), and easy to pee and get a drink.

But to the fans who are so anal/Blackberry/iPhone retentive that they cannot stop looking at their device for a single minute: what the heck is wrong with you?

Posted by Anonymous | December 4, 2010 9:34 PM

Come on "douches", get along kids.

Posted by Anonymous | December 4, 2010 9:36 PM

The poseur factor definitely goes way up when Wilco is entered in any discussion. There were guys there last night paying more attention to Tweedy than to their dates.

Tweedy solo is okay, never great. When he plays with Wilco, they always kick it into gear. Anybody raving about solo Tweedy obviously just has a man crush. (And before Tweedy's wannabe lover chimes in: YES, I have seen more Tweedy/Wilco/YLT shows than you, so shut up). But I guess if you are of the thick glasses/beard crowd, he is the closest thing to a messiah you have.

Posted by Anonymous | December 4, 2010 9:58 PM

9:58, you are the worst. way to epitomize what sucks about being a music fan in 2010. the self-importance that just bleeds from every word you write - it's embarrassing for all of us here.

Posted by Solar China | December 5, 2010 1:49 AM

As stated above, Hot Tuna on Friday night was tremendous as far as pure musical expression within the idiom of blues/rock/folk. Superb. Last night's VERY intimate gathering at the Bowery was also special if you like Tweedy and especially Autumn Defense. No more underage profanity. Thanks

Posted by vibe | December 5, 2010 9:50 AM

wow. 9:58 needs a life, at least a better one. you're pathetic dude and a hypocrite
