The Giraffes on a boat (more by Keith Marlowe)
Giraffes

"Come say farewell to Aaron as he leaves The Giraffes to embark on his journey as a Wageearner."
As that message states, The Giraffes are bidding wildman/vocalist Aaron Lazar adeiu. Has he moved on to greener pastures? Either way, the Giraffes will play one final show with Lazar before he rides a giant moustache off into the sunset. Mercury Lounge will house said event on Feb 5th and Moon Rabbits (and possibly more bands TBA) will open the show. Tickets go on sale Friday (1/7) at noon. No word on the outcome of some of those "new jams" they were working on in early September (though it seems the band will continue on with a new vocalist), or the status of Aaron's other project Rumanian Buck, but if we hear more we'll let you know. - BBG

Giraffes are easily the most underrated band in New York. This news sucks.

"didnt that dude have a heart attack"

I believe he had two.

Giraffes are one of the best hard rock bands in the entire country. No gimmicks, just really good rock. The band can't make it without him.

The giraffes most certainly do have a gimmick-- pouring beer on anyone brave enough to be front and center. I only saw them once and they were awesome.

Bought their album used at Sound Fix on a whim. Sounds like Stacy's pita chips (the naked variation) being dipped into Sabra (the pine nut variation).

This band is like babaganoush...delicious, beloved, but unwelcome in the world of hummus.

Love this band. Very bummed out by this news.

Forget just in New York, The Giraffes are one of the most underrated bands ever. I've been to a lot of concerts, seen these guys a bunch and they are consistently one of the best shows I've ever witnessed. Period. This news is heartbreaking.

Aaron has a new band called Don't. Baritone guitar/drums duo. Haven't heard the music, just heard about them since I was on the Giraffes mailing list.
