The Homewreckers @ Cake Shop (pre-bust) - 1/8/2010 (by Shawn Scallen)
Homewreckers

Forgetters were scheduled to play a late show at Cake Shop on Saturday night, but the cops shut down the venue for being over capacity before they went on. That's a picture of the Homewreckers playing right before the cops burst in and people made their way out to the frigid street. The LES venue has since reopened.

108 played Cake Shop earlier on Saturday. More on that show soon.

The police are out of control.

Bloomberg is letting the NYPD intimidate New York underground music out of business.

The longterm result will be a stagnant and historically insignificant music scene, like New York in the 90's.

There is nothing wrong with enforcing capacity limits. Happy Land anyone?

And NYC in the '90s was a fun place. Brownies, Coney Island High, and even club nights at Webster Hall were fun (they had bands play on a side stage).

I knew cake shop was gonna have capacity problems once they added hummus on their menu.

new york in the 90's was a wasteland for decent bands.

New York in the 90s may have been a wasteland for decent bands but it was an oasis of super clubs and ravers.

1:37 - ten minutes before the shutdown, they had officially renamed to "Hummus Shop" thus causing the influx of customers.

Don't blame the police, blame the guy at the door. It was completely at capacity downstairs and when we went upstairs to try to get air they were *still* letting dozens of people in.

Who cares

How did the police even find out the venue was at capacity?

That's easy: I called them.

IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING.
