Explosions In The Sky at ATP NY (more by Samantha Marble)
Explosions In The Sky

Explosions In The Sky have one US date on their calendar, and it's not too shabby; they will be headlining Radio City Music Hall on April 6th in what will be their "biggest ever headline" show. Congrats dudes. What's more, though EiTS played ATP New York 2010, the Radio City Music Hall show will be their first proper NYC show in a little less than two years (they headlined a rainy Central Park Summerstage in July 2009). Tickets are currently on fan pre-sale. AMEX presale begins tomorrow (1/5) at 11AM, and general sale kicks off Friday (1/7) at 11AM.

In addition to the new NYC date, Explosions In The Sky have announced their new LP, due via Temporary Residence Ltd in Spring 2011. More details on that are to come, but for now you can dig on all world tour dates and a video trailer for the Radio City show below.

Is this what brought the blackbirds down?

Posted by Tom Beebe | January 4, 2011 1:46 PM

remember when people liked this band? remember when every dude with a beard and a guitar pedal started a band like this?

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 1:46 PM

Suckers - Radio City is the worst. They should have more dates, hopefully one with GA.

Posted by C | January 4, 2011 1:47 PM

remember when people continued to talk shit on websites? Do you remember people never really care what you think?

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 1:48 PM

so they've been around a while...doesn't mean they aren't still awesome. how soon might this sell out?

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 1:48 PM

Suckers can catch them at the GA Terminal 5 next time they play in town. Radio City is as good a venue as it gets.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 1:49 PM

good band but reaching too high with Radio City.. 5000 tickets really ? they'll do better than Cold War Kids though !!!

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 1:51 PM

I will bet money they play at a smaller venue and not for $45. Seats are for wimps. I already see people sitting the whole show.

Posted by C | January 4, 2011 1:51 PM

yr crazy if you dont think this is the best venue for them

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 1:56 PM

GY!BE is already coming to town....all else is secondary!

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 1:57 PM

$52 after fees!!! wtf?

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 1:57 PM

$52 is ridick.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 1:59 PM

just pulled two tickets in the PIT baby

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 2:01 PM

Seated isn't bad for EITS.

Funny though... I remember a few years ago when they played T5 and they were commenting on how that was the biggest headlining show they had played up until that point. Crazy.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 2:02 PM

Site is crazy. I tried 5 different times and on the 5th time, I got the best seats.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 2:05 PM

"Seats are for wimps. I already see people sitting the whole show."

Who the fuck is going to stand for Explosions in the Sky? But yeah, bro... totally blows that you can't mosh.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 2:06 PM

This'll sell out and they'll add a second date. Guaranteed. And they fucking deserve it.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 2:07 PM

Agreed, on 2nd date. Can't wait.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 2:09 PM

@1:47 yea, Radio City is the worst if you like amazing sound and perfect views no matter where your spot is.

I got my ticket minutes after reading this. PSYCHED!

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 2:09 PM

Yes, the site kept giving me tickets in Orchestra 5/6 with nothing closer than Row GG. Then, on the 5th time, I got Pit Section Row BBB. Thank you ticketing gods (of which there are several).

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 2:09 PM

May 25 Holland, Amsterdam, Paradiso

totally down going to this date.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 2:19 PM

I have no idea why this band sells well in such large venues... but I'm glad to see it!

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 2:23 PM

Laughing hysterically at 2:09. You are a bozo. Bowery ballroom is amazing sound and sight lines. Joe's pub is amazing sound and sightlines. Radio City? Cmon you idiot. Yeah it's much much better than somewhere like MSG and a million times better than Terminal 5 but it is still a large echo cavern. And please tell the people in the upper balconies that it is perfect sightlines.
Love this band though and glad they can play a venue like this for you non discerning concert goers.
Also for the clueless I doubt this will sell out or even have a second date added unless of course the usual shady promoter ticket shennanigans go on. One thing is for sure, there will be plenty of people basically giving away tickets the week of the show for nothing.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 2:24 PM

I hope they show Friday Night Lights clips on a giant screen behind the band. That would be so fucking sweet.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 2:32 PM

2:24- this is actually the perfect band to see in an "echo cavern" as you call it. Boomy rooms are not always a bad thing... especially when it's not a vocal intensive band.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 2:33 PM

yea, y'all are idiots...

if u knew anything about eits or radio city...ud know this is the perfect venue for such. 2:33 has it right.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 2:36 PM

Hipster 2:24pm shut up! Why do you think Godspeed is playing at St. Paul Church....b/c of 10 second reverb at the venue.

Same thing with ETID at Radio City, the way the venue is built, it's a great atmosphere for the real fans to get some reverbs with their music....

hence why Sigur Ros at United Palace sounded amazing couple years ago as well.

Posted by Jonny Greenwood is the man | January 4, 2011 2:46 PM

An amazing opportunity to see them without the people that were moshing (!) at ATP.

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to 2011.

We're excited (and a little nervous) to announce that on April 6th we'll be playing at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Radio City is one of the most legendary and beautiful theaters in the world, so we feel pretty honored and lucky. It's like some sort of absurd daydream come true for us. Anyway, we'll be playing a bunch of new songs so we hope some of you can make it out that night. If you're interested in tickets, please go here.

Speaking of new songs...as we'd mentioned previously, our new album will be coming out sometime this spring. We're anxious to get it out there into the world and we'll have more details about it in the next few weeks.

Thanks for caring.

Love,

Explosions

3/14-3/18 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 4/6

If you know which other band I'm talking about :)

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 3:00 PM

Whats the password?

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 3:19 PM

Fan presale sold out apparently.

Posted by Cuse | January 4, 2011 3:34 PM

I don't want to sit at any show. I don't care who it is (unless they're awful). It just feels wrong.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 3:34 PM

it's a great atmosphere for the real fans to get some reverbs with their music....

Posted by Relaxante | January 4, 2011 3:51 PM

I saw them at Crazy Donkey for free. :)

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 4:14 PM

definitely gonna wait for the full tour. $52 seems a bit excessive. didnt they charge like $10 a show on their last tour? i specifically remember them being remarkably low ticket prices. $20-25 seems appropriate for this band.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 10:12 PM

I'm not sure if it's possible to charge $10 for a show at Radio City.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 10:40 PM

did anyone ever thought of just going to the box office and buying tickets there to avoid shitty fees

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 11:58 PM

cluck, cluck, cluck...
you could have seen them open for the flaming lips during the summer... wow, the sound at those sheds is amazing...

Posted by Anonymous | January 5, 2011 3:45 PM

You could only get balcony tickets for spoon on the first day of the presale, but it didn't sell out until the day of or so. Ticketmaster manipulates the seating to create fake demand, so you tell your buddies that the shows about to sell out when it isn't.

Posted by Anonymous | January 7, 2011 12:54 PM

Very true. There's no reason why ticketmaster couldn't do seating like they do at BAM, for example. Let the initial buying storm subside, then let people choose specifically with a "map" from what's left.

Posted by Cuse | January 7, 2011 2:28 PM

^ exactly, Ticketmaster hates to do anything that would result in convenience for their clients. I spent 20 minutes searching for tickets today, getting shit selections, dumping, repeating, and finally I pulled center orch row DD. It's annoying, but strangely fulfilling at the same time when you come out on top.

Posted by Anonymous | January 7, 2011 5:05 PM

Yeah. I have to admit that the chase is part of the appeal for me.
