Mister Heavenly

"Honus Honus and Nick Thorburn shared vocal duties, creating a unique blend of sounds. The juxtaposition of their very different vocals is totally to their advantage. That is the same type of thing that makes Wolf Parade work so well. The songs had a lot of energy and bite on stage, and hopefully the energy doesn't get lost on the album. They seemed to be loose and having fun on stage, sipping Makers Mark and joking with the crowd. Cera played a great bass, even if his back was turned away from the crowd most of time. He seemed to shy away from the attention, which one can understand. Even with his celebrity status he was an integral component of the band that fit in well." [WAWSTSF]
Speaking of Scott Pilgrim, Michael Cera was in fact playing bass last night for Mister Heavenly at Bowery Ballroom. More pictures from the show, including of the setlist, below...

I saw the hummus guy in the bathroom sniffing lines of hummus off pita triangles.

Maybe it was the other George Michael. You know, the singer-songwriter.

"i want to punch michael cera in the face"

Nothing wrong with Michael Cera. He is simply doing a job and people are paying him money. You should be punching all the idiots that purchase tickets to shows like these. Typical transplant scenester mentality: "wow, I couldn't see something like this back in the midwest".

The guy has a surprisingly good physical presence on film. However, when the guy talks it is blood-curtingly annoying. He has the demeanor of a middle aged lesbian when he is speaking. Cringe indeed.

I personally do not take offense to him being in a band though. Hell, they let Nathan Williams be in a band. Some of you fools even like that trash.

is that Noah from Sam Champion or Michael Cera?!

Posted by Anonymous | January 18, 2011 12:33 PM

Dude looks like Toad from super mario with that hat on. I wonder how difficult it is to still act awkward and mannered while playing music on a stage. I'd be pissed if i was there for music instead of to see a footnote doing a shtick, that shit is distracting.

Michael Cera actually played quite well, and is a very nice fellow, but more importantly the creative forces behind this band (ie. Nick Diamonds & Honus Honus) are both very talented individuals who have yet again written great indie/pop songs. put down the haterade.

Bring back the unicorns already!!!

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2011 12:17 PM

i like michael cera, he seems like a funny dude. but this band is a total waste of everyones time

Posted by Anonymous | January 21, 2011 12:20 PM

i love the unicorns, but nick diamond can be an ass. honus honus is the nicest human in the world. and its michael cera, go ahead and be mad, but he is fuckin funny, and its pretty rad he is touring and playing music and doing something with his time rather than write hate comments on BV

FUCK YOUR GIMMICKS GO HOME

Don't hate on michael cera or this band. Let's not hate at all. (canadian accent) how about that? live Music is still live music. I personally didn't seem them live. michael cera is a pretty funny actor, and he appears to be a pretty good musician. People shouldn't hate on the fact he's touring with this band. Yeah sure it attracts tons of publicity in terms of attendance compared to Mister Heavenly with or without Michael Cera. Anyways he's got style on stage too. Plus let's not forget Honus Honus and Nick Diamonds are pretty gnarly.
