« Butthole Surfers played Music Hall of Williamsburg on New Years Eve (and the night before) - videos & setlists | watch a new trailer for the Decemberists' "The King is Dead" (and the two previous trailers too) »

Phish completed their three night run at Madison Square Garden late on Saturday night (1/1/11). One night earlier they spent the last moments of 2010 in a hot dog hovering over the crowd. The stunt, which was part of a routine that involved the performance of Phish rarity "Meatstick", included costumed dancers that filled the stage, streamers and foam hotdogs, and was initally done on 12/31/94 for New Years at the Boston Garden. It was revisited in 1999 and finally retired when the hot dog was donated to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. Phish borrowed the prop back from the museum for the MSG show.
Over their three night stay (which you may have watched from home since Phish offered a pay-per-view webcast of each night), Phish played a total of seven sets and did not repeat a single song. In fact, the band only repeated two songs during their entire five show New Year's Eve run that also included two shows DCU Center in Worcester, MA. Those songs were "David Bowie" and "Backwards Down the Number Line" (both played once in NYC).
Pictures, setlists and videos (including multiple angles of the flying hot dog) from all three shows, below...

NYE was just pure fun and the epic return of the meatstick

is that a free ticket in the snow?

The first picture shows why I don't belong at Phish shows.
P.S. Didn't this band break up in 2004 or whenever that was?

mike gordon destroyed it.

Personally I prefer a hummus stick to a meat stick, but that's just how I roll.

That was an amazing 3 night run. I have no complaints, they keep getting better. I'm ready for Summer tour.

I know the Phish-hating will start at some point in this thread, which is really too bad.
The 3-night run at MSG was fantastic. I average 4-5 shows per month (almost exclusively "indie" stuff), and nothing compares to Phish shows. They are completely unpredictable, and the musicianship is outstanding. Also, there is more crowd energy at a Phish show than at virtually any other band's show.

sat night incredible
Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2011 2:31 PM
I did not plan to do so but went all three nights. I have to give it to them, after seeing them for well over 10 years, they were really tight all three nights, genuinely happy to playing the biggest room in town for a crowd that was just as happy.
highlight was sneaking sally on 1/1
Posted by GardenGrassCrap | January 3, 2011 2:45 PM
"sat night incredible"
the weakest of the three, but still awesome. excited to see the spring/summer dates

Most Phish fans are so high on drugs they wouldn't know good music if it slapped them in the face.
Posted by Guppy | January 3, 2011 3:01 PM
pure insanity at the garden. incredible energy, the arena was literally bouncing all 3 nights.
Posted by ChugBuzz | January 3, 2011 3:02 PM

To the haters, you're idiots. YOU need the drugs.
To the phans, it was fun to share with you all. We know we had a good time.
To the band, you guys are getting there. Getting there! Just think, by Fall Tour of 2011 you'll be ready to Destroy America again!

"pure insanity at the garden. incredible energy, the arena was literally bouncing all 3 nights"
this is 100% accurate, i've seen van halen, neil young, mmj, rem, pearl jam and several others at msg...only phish gets it to move like that! great run of shows
Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2011 3:18 PM
any chance I can get a copy of the 1/1/11 shot of trey with the guitar? I am the girl in the black V neck and I'd love a higher pixel version?.. and my birthday is 1/11/11 this year?.. please? love all the shots!!
Posted by jenisis chadbourne | January 3, 2011 3:19 PM
For all those with the good reviews, did you take drugs as well? I bet we all know the answer.
Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2011 3:26 PM
@ChugBuzz
Literally - actually; without exaggeration or inaccuracy.
So, was the place "literally bouncing"?
Posted by ChrisD | January 3, 2011 3:29 PM
I agree with the bounce comment. Phish is the only band Ive seen there that gets the building literally moving
Posted by gardengrasscrap | January 3, 2011 3:32 PM
ChirsD, yes. Yes, it was.
and not the "it was so literally funny I died!" type of literally
Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2011 3:38 PM
Msg bounced so hard it's new location is actually on st. Marks and 3rd... Conveniently located next to mamouns I might add, so no complaints from me!
Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2011 3:39 PM
@3:26 -
why does it matter? sometimes we go somewhere. sometimes we smoke weed. sometimes we get a bit crazier.
ive gone to 24 shows. sometimes sober. sometimes not. but i don't go to take drugs. i go because i love the music and the place to which i go - sober or not - when i listen to this band.
i get it if phish isn't for you. hopefully you can find some music that makes you feel like nothing else in life. focus on finding that and enjoying that instead of hating on a band that means so much to so many people.
that said, all three nights were incredible. Set II on 12/31 was the best, with a close second being Set II 1/1. DWD->Ghost->YEM was a highlight. So was Crosseyed->Twist->Simple->Sally.
Hopefully see you in the summer phans!
Posted by dryicefactory | January 3, 2011 3:42 PM
@ChrisD
Yes, Literally. If you've ever seen a rocking show at MSG, you'll know that, due to the way the building was constructed, you can actually feel the 300's and 400's bouncing as people dance to the music.
Posted by Scott | January 3, 2011 3:43 PM
sorry. meant "Sometimes we go sober." Not "somewhere."
Posted by dryicefactory | January 3, 2011 3:43 PM
Also, can I get a preemptive "Fuck You, Go Home" to the person who is going to post "Phish Sucks" a couple thousand times?
Posted by ScottScott | January 3, 2011 3:45 PM
To the people posting negative comments on this Really? Really? I mean from the first picture and statements like the ones from 3:02 and 3:16, you just know the makeup of the losers who go see this band. Why even bother making comments? Kicking someone when they are already down is no fun. Let them rant and rave about how "mind blowing" this was. Or how they go to 4 or 5 shows a month like that is some big deal to most of the readers on here. Just let these very stupid people have their fun while knowing they have some of the worst taste in music.

for point of reference, here are other shows i went to this year

Seriously! Why are people so fucking insulting about Phish, just leave it be. Thousands of people enjoyed a massive rock show, why do you have to be such an asshole about it.

I don't listen to Phish..never have and probably never will. However, I'm a Pearl Jam fanatic and kudos to all of the Phish lovers out there. Our bands know how to put on a show! Looks like a great time.

I've been to a dozen Phish concerts in the last two years. I roll my eyes at phrases like "mind blowing," and don't use drugs of any kind, ever. I listen widely, and my faves include a number of your standard big indie names, like Sonic Youth (Thurston has said they have more in common with Phish than your average major label alt-rock act), Sleater-Kinney (Carrie Brownstein has rejected the easy indie hate for the band), and TV on the Radio (whom Phish have covered several times), my appreciation for all of which predates any connection they might have to the band. I am uninterested in any form of hipsterdom, but have been going to shows in Williamsburg since the dawn of the scene there, probably before you moved to NYC, know most of the bands, local or otherwise, that you do, and have been to most or all of the venues that you have.
There are many concerts with better technical playing, (jazz) concerts with better improvisation, concerts with better production values, and obviously concerts with cooler/better-dressed audiences, but there is NO concert with the collective energy (is there a bigger party band?), sense of adventure (no two concerts the same, long jams, you know the drill), musical generosity (every concert includes 3-3.5 if not 4 hours of music), lack of audience self-consciousness (every single able person in the 20,000-capacity arena stands up and dances throughout most or all of the concert, many of them harder and a good number in more coordinated fashion than you have ever danced in public or otherwise), and overall sense of spirit and celebration as a Phish concert. None. If you have not experienced it personally, you simply do not understand.
Whatever you makes you feel cooler, though...

My 100th show was on 1/1/11. It is an amazing journey that continues to bring joy and happiness. My first show at MSG 10/21/96 to the recent MSG 1/1/11 - love it all. Thanks Phish for making January 1st so special. I walked in with a bad NYE hangover and was immediately cured with 'My Soul.' No more drinks for me, just pure energy from the atmosphere of magical MSG. Pure good-feeling vibes streaming from the music and lights. High energy, good people, Chris Kuroda, A+ setlist, seats behind Page, my city of New York and lots of love made my 100th one for the ages. Mainstream people can't comprehend why I would go to 100 shows of just one band - but all of you out there in Phishdom know exactly why.
P.S. Thanks Phish for the Walls, C & P, Makisupa, Fee - all personal requests answered

I was lucky enough to start seeing Phish in the late 1980s. These shows were lame. Knowing that many of the "phans" bought scalper tickets to get in demonstrates how far the scene has degraded. Paying $200+ to "commune" with other selfish people - great scene.

Phish have just been shamelessly humping the corpse of the Grateful Dead for the last 25 years and show no sign of slowing down.
But take away the high-tech lights and the giant floating meat puppet, and you're left with a bunch of old white guys playing some of the most tediously self-indulgent music ever heard. It's not rock 'n roll, it's masturbation.
And PPV streaming?.. Christ.
Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2011 6:53 PM
True dat In interviews the guys from Sonic Youth and Phish come right out and say they owe their love of jams to the GD Phish used to play Terrapin and Scarlet Begonias, but don't tell the phans that It drives them crazy to point out that they are simply Grateful Dead Jr.
Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2011 7:20 PM
Could you please explain how 'Phish has been shamelessly humping the corpse of the Grateful Dead'. If you are going to make a ridiculously uninformed statement like that, you could at least provide examples. Anyone who is still comparing Phish to the Dead obviously has no clue of what they are talking about, but at least you let everyone know in your first sentence.

Why is it so hard for people to say "Phish isn't my thing, but I'll respect them because they are damn good musicians."? I'm not a huge Phish fan but I've seen them a couple times and the shows are fantastic. All four of them have more musicality in one finger than 80% of the bands indie fans, especially in NYC, jerk off to.

Yes. Also 6:53 dude, what is wrong with PPV streaming, its kind of a great idea and let people across the country enjoy the show too.
Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2011 7:41 PM
I can't believe someone is ripping on Phish for doing a PPV stream. In the day and age where the music industry can't make a dime, faulting someone for creating a new kind of revenue stream is laughable. I'm sure you'll have no problem with it when every other band is doing it a year from now. Like them or not, Phish is an innovator in the music industry. How many other bands are selling downloads right after their shows now? Just one other thing Phish did first. And the stream was $15, not exactly an arm and a leg for a live, real-time, front row, HD seat.

These kids are pathetic. You guys sound like you were in kindergarten when Phish started.
The scene has become homogenous, closed-minded (to all but the chosen phans), and disrespectful (to all but the chosen phans). A bunch of pill-popping, scalper paying fauxhemians.
Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2011 8:47 PM
LOL @ the AC/DC comment...Should I go to their message boards and shit talk them? Or should I have a life of my own? Do they owe everything they have to Black Sabbath? Or are they their own band?

"'Phish has been shamelessly humping the corpse of the Grateful Dead'"
If you were not patently clueless, you'd be aware that while some or all of the members of Phish love the Dead, and have been influenced by them both musically and from a business perspective, the band overall is even more influenced by a host of other mid-70s to early-80s (and well beyond) rock acts, from Led Zeppelin to Little Feat to Stevie Wonder and the Talking Heads, to name but a few from a very long list.
The leader of the band, moreover, has worked with Philip Glass, the New York Philharmonic (among other orchestras), the Sun Ra Arkestra, and a number of downtown avant jazz figures, as well in the Broadway realm. Not even Antony or The National, say, can claim such serious music cred. Nor can any other DIY band (and that's certainly what they've been in many respects) claim to have been introduced on television by Keith Richards (and on stage by Gloria Steinem), jammed with Bruce Springsteen, and have created a prop that occupies pride of place in the rotunda of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame where the band will inevitably be inducted.
But keep reassuring yourself that you're cool because you've unquestioningly accepted the received wisdom that this is just an ignorable band for undiscerning "hippies." Maybe you should ask those drum-circle dudes in the Boredoms, who translated some Phish lyrics into Japanese for the band, what they think.

A very unhealthy, codependent relationship between band and phans. The phans seem to think the band REALLY cares about them. The band cares about your money.
You impress upon yourself an over-inflated sense of your worth in this relationship. If you are not in the show that night, some other phreak, with too much of Mom & Dad's money, will get the ticket. And it really disturbs you to think you are not there, in the center of attention.
Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 7:54 AM
I think if you asked any band out there, they would kill for the loyalty and respect that Phish gets from their fans. I'd like to see 'Steve Vai' sell out the Garden three nights in a row on NYE in 3 minutes. Probably couldn't do it at all. It's not a knock on Steve Vai, just seems that there are a lot of bands who would love playing in front of packed houses night after night, with the raw energy a Phish crowd has. The weird jealously in this thread is kind of sad.
Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 8:41 AM
"I was lucky enough to start seeing Phish in the late 1980s. These shows were lame."
spoken like a true wounded bitter VET. I saw them in the late 80's as well and thru their entire career. They are almost as on point now as they were at their apex in the mid 90's. Shows were anything but lame
Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 9:25 AM
ANON 11:48-i don't understand why fans want the set lists mixed up that much and that many different songs played... doesn't anybody want a shred of familiarity?
you dont get it and thats fine but to answer your question. Phish has the most loyal fanbase in the world and id say about 75% of them know every word to every one of those tunes and the other 100 that they have written over the years so it is all very familiar...
Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 9:30 AM
ANON 7:54- Really?? thats funny bro cause for a band of phish's magnitude they have the cheapest face value tix of anyone in their class. Mail order tix for front row are less then 70 bux. Go try and see a classic rock legend like clapton or the stones for that price. And when you come back and say they cant hold a candle to the stones-try looking at some godawful sh*t like lady gaga or nickleback and you will see the same. Stop talkin about sh*t you dont understand.
Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 9:40 AM
I love it when haters fall back on stereotypes - proves to me they have absolutely no idea what they're talking about. I love Phish, but I'm not a hippie or a drug user. I go to shows stone cold sober and have a blast every time. So glad I was there on NYE - Phish rages like no other.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 9:57 AM
i hear that the hell's angels are on the permanent guest list for every phish show. when they arrive, they ask where the bass player is and kick him in the balls, hard. that is why his voice is so high.
Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 10:15 AM
Why do you Phish fans feel the need to protect and defend this band? If you are truly confident that they are the best band around, you would not be telling us how great they are.
Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 10:59 AM
^ I think people are defending because people put up inane comments with no merit or basis. Same stuff happens with most bands on this site.
Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 11:16 AM
A lot of people in this thread really need some therapy.
"Why do you Phish fans feel the need to protect and defend this band? If you are truly confident that they are the best band around, you would not be telling us how great they are."
I don't defend them, if someone doesn't understand what I get out of it, it doesn't bother me. The real question is why do people who don't know or understand their music go out of their way to hate them/flame them on the internet.
Posted by Wow | January 4, 2011 11:37 AM
I will never understand why people argue on the intertronz about each other's musical tastes. How can anyone be declared "right" about their own "opinion"? You're all a bunch of silly geese!
That being said, I had a blast all three nights. I just hope that the people that don't like Phish at least have some kind of thing in their lives that makes them feel the way I do about Phish's music & seeing them live. It's a wonderfully enriching feeling & I hope that you all have something in your lives that makes you feel the same way. It's be a shame if you didn't.

@ 10:59 Because our music culture from pop to indie has become so stupid and clueless from a musicality standpoint and so scene oriented that it makes no sense. Why make fun of music that is unquestionably good but you just don't like? And why make fun of a band that actually has a very high talent level? They can actually play their instruments and play them extraordinarily well.
Pop stars? Not a chance. Indie bands? Most of them, no. Smaller indie bands likes Wavves and all that other hide-behind -reverb-and-distortion noise rock that the Brooklyn scene is? No. Hell, I like Arcade Fire a lot but none of them are particularly good at their instruments. Sure they all play a lot but they do nothing more than OK. Go back in time and everyone from 50s rock to classic rock to hair metal for fantastic musicians whether you like their shit or not. Nowadays you learn barre chords and start some shitty band and sing with your terrible fucking voice and all the dumb hipsters think you have soul and cred.

It's so interesting to me how much action these Phish posts get on the Comments' section. It's a great feeling to know that there are so many other indie fans out there, like me, who are die-hard Phish fans as well. We didn't really have a place to go after the band broke up back in the day, so we dove head first into the indie rock scene. For the most part, it has treated me well, finding some serious gems here and there (my personal favorites over the years being TVOTR, LCD, Hot Chip, Black Keys, Arcade Fire and The National, among a few others). But after spending so many years scouring the internet for the next good band, and coming up short 9 times out of 10, it's such an incredible feeling to go to Phish shows again. Forget about the music itself... it's just so f'ing liberating to experience live music with 20,000 other people who TRULY do not give a fuck about what others think of them. The amount of happiness in the building is almost overwhelming at times.
The majority of us Phish fans LOVE indie music, and we cherish it... but there are so few indie bands out there that can create a similar live experience, and that is something that us Phish-turned-indie fans have been craving for so long now.
That is all. Oh, and Theme From the Bottom gets the Unsung Hero award for me. Love that f'ing song.

I'm a relatively new phan (since about '04), and as many others have already said, this band rules, rocks and rolls over all other bands. The musicianship is phenomenal, and even if Trey clams here and there, that's excusable. Unlike Steve Vai, Trey is constantly searching for new ground and trying things unrehearsed...jammed. Not sure I've ever heard Steve Vai do something so unscripted...So, to point at Trey and say his musicianship is not superlative is ... just...well...dumb. Listen to the music, and see his resume.
As for energy, I don't think I've ever been to a live theatrical or musical event that A - generates so much RAW ENERGY and B - generates so much positive energy. People are generally sociable, outgoing, friendly and fun. I can't think of any other band where the fans so readily launch themselves into a positive state of being....In fact, I'm sure the detractors on this thread prefer bands whose audiences either just flail violently or strike demure, overwrought poses hanging on emotions bottled up inside, pecking at the ground and strutting out of stride...effin posers...piss off!
Oh and who ever said phans don't know that the band loves to make money off us...that that's their priority? We know, and still...so what? It seems to me that folks who talk about Phish's commercial policies are just jealous and wishing they had bands that could make them feel so good (by delivering exceptional value) as to routinely pay moderate prices for any number of offers on tickets merch or songs...
Phish Rule!

Seriously, one of the best runs since the Gorge '09. It was nice to share it with all y'all...see you this spring ;)

Phish fans strive constantly to justify their band mainly because they all are incredibly self-conscious about being a fan of such a completely idiotic band. Its one thing, like the Grateful Dead, to cut yourselves off completely from society and follow around a music act. At least the Dead had some cultural relevance at some point in their career ('67-'72), wrote some classics, and generally were accomplished musicians when they weren't completely bonked on whatever substance they were abusing (china white, cocaine, wine, pills, etc).
Phish have never had a single ounce of cultural relevance. They write completely idiotic songs, and their musical skills are average. The idea of a Phish concert is to envelope yourself in stupidity and childishness. It must drive Phish fans completely nuts when someone tells them the truth. The band doesn't suck. They just aren't worth all the senseless devotion.
My favorite video that explain the silliness of being a Phish fan:

@ANON 3:36 - Does it make you feel better about yourself to look down upon something that you have absolutely no idea about?
Have you been to a Phish show? Have you ever listened to more than a minute of their music before dismissing it as worthless?
If they are "average" musicians as you say they are, then why have they shared the stage with the likes of Neil Young, BB King, Bela Fleck and Carlos Santana among others? Why were they chosen to induct Genesis into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame? I'd be interested to see a list of your favorite bands. Would any of them be able to competently cover Watcher of the Skies?
Also, I can't speak for anyone else, but I don't go to Phish shows to "envelope (sic) myself in stupidity and childishness." I also don't take drugs or drink alcohol at Phish shows (or much at all in general for that matter). I go to Phish shows to watch four incredible musicians work together to create some of the most amazing genre-bending music I have ever had the privilege of listening to. I'm sorry you don't get it. I'm sorry that you're basing your misguided opinion on tired stereotypes and what you've heard from other people, but hey, if hating makes you happy, then so be it.

@ANON 3:36 - Also, maybe you should look into finding the original audio that goes with that video you posted.

I'm 3:56, and I went to four Phish shows between the years of 1996 and 1999. I have about 50 CDs of their live shows in a dusty old binder from that period.
Whom they've shared the stage with is irrelevant. The fact that they are inducting Genesis goes under the category of "nice to know".
The tone of you post pretty much proves my point. You are self-conscious about liking Phish, and probably have a deep seated inferiority complex to boot. Do you sing along with "Contact" or "Carini"?
"I saw you with Carini and that naked dude
I could not eat my food.
Lucy had a lovely head.
Lucy took a walk,
now Lucy's dead."
or
"The tires are the things on your car
That make contact with the road
Bummed is what you are
When you go out to your car and it's been towed"
Like I said. Completely idiotic.

4:21-great examples bro. Sometimes the music speaks for itself and doesnt need any meaningful lyrics i.e. YEM. (Im sure you have heard that one since you have some dusty live CD's.) Sometimes its nice just to be able to write a stupid song and have fun with it i.e. "contact" and Carini? Really? That was their bodyguard that used to light drugged out w00ks up when they ran the stage so its actually a pretty funny song. And sometimes its nice to write a song that can bring on a strong emotional feeling to particular group of people i.e. "Waste". You, as we like to say, "dont get it" so STFU and move on and go listen to GWAR. They have some really enlightened song lyrics that can easily be followed.
Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 4:43 PM
P.S.
I have nothing against GWAR
Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 4:43 PM
@4:21 (3:56): Part of what I love about the band is that they have never taken themselves too seriously, yet can still outplay just about any act out there today. The tone of my post was in response to the tone of yours. I really couldn't give two shits whether or not you like Phish, but calling them "average musicians" because some of their songs have silly lyrics is just, well, silly. If you knew me, you would know that I am certainly not self-conscious about loving Phish. When I see someone spout ignorant nonsense about musicianship and cultural relevance, however, I'm inclined to step forward and point out his naiveté.
Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 4:49 PM
"Waste" is pretty idiotic too.
"So if I'm inside your head
Don't believe what you might have read
You'll see what I might have said
To hear it
Come waste your time with me
Come waste your time with me"
And I'm pretty sure you don't catch the irony of the last two lines, which pretty much sum up the entire Phish experience. A big fucking waste of time.
Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 4:55 PM
@4:55: Going to *other* bands' concerts isn't wasting your time? It's a recreational activity. I don't go to concerts to do my taxes or brush up on my Spanish skills... I go to blow off steam, enjoy some music and waste some time
Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 5:01 PM
Its sad that you think concerts are a waste of time. No wonder you like idiot's music.
Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 5:06 PM
@4:21-You must have no musical ability or knowledge if you think they are average musicians. They are by no means the greatest instrumentalists out there but they are far, far above average. Not to mention they have taken more chances, tried more new things, experimented with more styles, etc than probably any band in existence, including the Dead. That is not to say they are necessarily better but it shows they are musicians' musicians.
Also, I don't think any Phish fan would say the lyrics are particularly good. I also think fans, Trey and the guy who writes the lyrics would all admit a lot of them are goofy and fun. That's sort of the point.
Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 5:09 PM
Who is idiot? I've never heard his (her?) music.
Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 5:10 PM
"idiot's music" = music for idiots, i.e. "you".
Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 5:15 PM
You know what's really a waste of time?
Arguing on the internet about opinions.
Go blast some MGMT or Sleater-Kinney and have a great night! I know you probably find this hard to believe, since I'm a Phish fan, but I have a regular full time job and it's time for me to go home now.
Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 5:16 PM
""idiot's music" = music for idiots, i.e. "you"."
Oh, thanks for clearing that up. My employees are going to be pretty miffed when they find out they've been working for an idiot.

I'm sure they already know.

YOUR MUSICAL TASTES ARE DIFFERENT FROM MINE!!! YOU MUST BE STUPID!!!
Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 6:37 PM
I think Trey said in best in the film Bittersweet Motel about critics: "...it's almost they're are offended by the fact that so many people could be enjoying something that they don't like...but what am I supposed to do about that..."
Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2011 11:20 PM
Gwar would enslave Phish.
Posted by Anonymous | January 5, 2011 8:04 AM
ANON 4:55-you just dont "get it" and i feel extremely sorry for you. I really do, cause the people that dont understand-i.e. "you" are gonna have a tough time finding that feeling with any other band on the planet. Just curious-who do listen to or go see most often?
Posted by Anonymous | January 5, 2011 8:37 AM
I live in Williamsburg, I have a full-time job, and I go to indie rock/hipster whatever shows here all the time (I'm also a girl).
Phish shows are the only shows that give me the feeling that I used to get when I was going to ska/punk/hardcore shows back in the day when I was 14. You go with your best friends, dance your ass off, and don't give a shit about anything except having an awesome time - it's an unjaded environment that you don't really find anymore in other music scenes.
I'll take going to a Phish show, where 20,000 people are having an amazing time over standing still at Cake Shop, staring at the latest indie band (who will probably not be around in 2-3 years) while everybody is looking at their phones any day.
