Strokes

"The Strokes announce the release date for their highly anticipated fourth album, Angles, on March 22nd via RCA records in the US, and March 21st via Rough Trade Records in the UK. A new single titled "Under Cover of Darkness," will be heard on radio starting in February. The complete track-listing for the album can be found below. More details on Angles will be released in the coming weeks, as will details for a Spring US tour.

Angles is the band's first new release since 2006's First Impressions of Earth and marks the ambition of that album with the immediacy of the band's earlier albums Is This It (2001) and Room On Fire (2003). In 2010, the band returned to the road, playing and headlining major festivals in the United States and UK, including the Isle of Wight Festival, Lollapalooza, Hurricane Festival, Splendour In The Grass, Rockness, Outside Lands, and Austin City Limits. Time Out Chicago hailed the Lollapalooza performance as "the best set I've seen since covering Lollapalooza. Better than Radiohead in 2008. Better than... who headlined last year? ...The crowd...was euphoric.""

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2011 11:46 AM

Way to be loyal to NY Strokes...come on you guys play Europe, Lolla, ACL and other festivals last year and haven't played one single NYC show......

and you know what people will be complaining cause it will be at T5....god please your first NYC show in 5 years should be at Radio City, Mercury Lounge, Bowery Ballroom, Webster Hall, United Palace.....just don't play T5 please.

Thank you

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2011 11:52 AM

Prediction: This album will be a disappointing meh

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2011 11:53 AM

NYC dates will be at the end of the tour in May at the Theater at MSG. No word on a pre tour NYC date, but I wouldn't be surprised if it happens. Check your local venue calendars for openings. ;)

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2011 11:57 AM

yay! let's slag albums that haven't come out yet and talk shit about shows that haven't even happened!

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2011 11:59 AM

Stop fucking around and post about the goddamn Chris Cornell show at Town Hall. Tickets on pre-sale now, on sale Fri. Thankfully it's solo acoustic so you KNOW homebody won't be playing any of that material from Scream.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2011 11:59 AM

ha,ha...Maxwells. Are you retarded? The guys who book Maxwells wouldn't even want this wack-ass band playing.

Stay in the L.E.S. braaaah....

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2011 12:24 PM

i wish julian would stroke me.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2011 12:35 PM

Right, wrong, what to do?
Someday it will come to you
Hostile indians
We named our summer camp for you

I've got nothing to say
I've got nothing to say
I've got nothing to say
I've got nothing to say
I've got nothing to say
I've got nothing to say
I've got nothing to say
I'm in utter dismay
I've got nothing to say

Harmless children
We named our soldiers after you
Don't be a coconut
God is trying to talk to you
We could drag it out
But that's for other bands to do

I've got nothing to say
I've got nothing to say
I've got nothing to say
I've got nothing to say
I've got nothing to give
Got no reason to live
But I will fight to survive
I've got nothing to hide
Wish I wasn't so shy

I'd like to watch
I'd like to read
I'd like a part
I'd like the lead

But
I've got nothing to say
I've got nothing to say
I've got nothing to say
I've got nothing to say
I've got nothing to give
Got no reason to live
But I'll kill to survive
I've got nothing to hide
Wish I wasn't so shy

Woooooooooooooooo!

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2011 2:47 PM

God please let this album be awesome. Albums 1 & 2 are fucking classic.

By the way, 11:59, I think you're on the wrong blog.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2011 3:16 PM

Worst band ever

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2011 4:06 PM

GBV slays this band

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2011 4:16 PM

"Stop fucking around and post about the goddamn Chris Cornell show at Town Hall. Tickets on pre-sale now, on sale Fri. Thankfully it's solo acoustic so you KNOW homebody won't be playing any of that material from Scream."

i believe you meant to visit brooklynfratboy and wound up on brooklynvegan.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2011 4:18 PM

4:06 why are you here? Please go away and make comments on some frat site.
BV wouldn't even exist if the Strokes and a few other early 00's bands were never a band(s). There would have been no NYC scene, no NY bloggers and no williamsburg hipsters.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2011 4:49 PM

4:49-you are completely delusional.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2011 5:17 PM

4:49 is soooo on the money. this town got a lot cooler when they first started, if you don't know this, then you're fuckin retarded.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2011 5:24 PM

4:49-yea, life without williamsbug hipsters would suck balls.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2011 5:35 PM

The strokes are perfect icons for making this town "cool again" Growing up privileged, spending time in Euro boarding schools as youths and getting the early gigs in the city b/c of relatives...gotta love the cronyism that exists in the world. BTW im a fan some them at the now defunct Downtown in farmingdale as a young bull so blow off, I just don't think they ushered in dick FUGAZI paved the way for what is cool

Posted by hestompedterra | January 25, 2011 5:44 PM

Their daddies bought some studio time again. Nice.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2011 5:47 PM

Yeah, imagine if there were no NY bloggers...what would I do all day at work?

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2011 6:28 PM

Dude, comparing The Strokes to GBV is like comparing Vivian Girls to The Who

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2011 7:04 PM

^ LOL. very true, my friend...

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2011 7:25 PM

i love you, julian. you are the most beautiful man on the planet.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2011 8:52 PM

Great Strokes are releasing a new record. They are great!

See, it's not that hard to write what you all feel without any irony.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2011 9:41 PM

7:04 Strokes are good but I wouldn't compair them to the Who. GBV are a little unpolished like Vivian Girls so I sort of get the comparison.

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2011 8:22 AM

BTW I have seen both the Strokes and GBV in concert and I enjoyed Strokes better. GBV was fun and all but the hype is undeserved. Strokes are a little more polished and fun but nothing to write about either but if I had a choice to see one again it would be Strokes.

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2011 8:26 AM

man i hope The Darkness opens for them that would be so fucking radical man

Posted by isfet | January 26, 2011 9:00 AM

isfet Darkness were a fun band. I kind of miss their theatrics!

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2011 9:03 AM

"4:49-you are completely delusional."
-agreed.

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2011 2:43 PM

word from inside sources, they are playing MSG on April 1st....

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2011 8:45 PM

MSG is way too big...even for this band. That would be weird.

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2011 8:56 PM

So...MSG is not big enough for: Phoenix, Kings of Leon, Killers (all sold out)...but big for Strokes? So they should play in Radio City like Spoon or play in Radio city 3 times like Vampire Wekeend?

People forget what in meant an "indie" band 5 years ago when they released "first Imp...".

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2011 11:23 PM

Agreed. Well said.
Posted by hestompedterra | January 25, 2011 5:44 PM

The rock star indie entitled burg scene johnny come lately band. So the "NYC scene" you say 4:49 PM began in 2000? More like when the plastic joke began. These kids never worked a day in their life let alone even a late shift other than hanging out in the East Village in the trustafarian "scene" contriving their image.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2011 5:11 AM

SXSW 2011!! DO IT!!

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2011 11:49 AM
