DOWNLOAD: Times New Viking: "No Room to Live" (MP3)

TNV @ a BV Day Party (more by Amanda Hatfield)
TNV

As at least one person picked up on back in October, Times New Viking are no longer on Matador. As just officially revealed via Pitchfork, they are now labelmates with the Mountain Goats...

"Ohio shit-fi indie rock heroes Times New Viking have signed with Merge Records, who will release their new album, Dancer Equired, on April 25 in the U.S. (Wichita will release it in Europe, Pop Frenzy in Australia, and Big Nothing in Japan.) It's the follow-up to 2009's Matador LP Born Again Revisited.

The first single from the record will be "No Room to Live", which previously appeared on a tour-only 7" during the band's jaunt with Guided by Voices last year. You can take a listen to the song above, and check out its video (directed by Brandon Reichard and Pelham Johnston) below."

Look for Times New Viking on the lineup of the Merge Records SXSW showcase when it gets announced. That video and another below...

Yeah, i mean these guys have to be multi-millionaires by now, right?

I'm actually impressed with their recordings considering that they are from Ohio.

Who gives a fuck if they are from Ohio? So is Devo, Trent Reznor, Guided by Voices and the Black keys. Columbus has a great music scene but it never, ever, ever gets credit because people (read: idiots) don't give it a chance in the first place. Great music can come anywhere; New York to Alaska, LA to Guam.

As for them being multi-millionaires, or even remotely well to do for that matter, that is most certainly not true; they struggle to pay rent in a high crime rate neighborhood. The music video was made almost for free, and they get very little (got almost nothing from matador) to produce their albums.

Lastly, how do you call them "over rated fan boy crap" when they barely have any fans and even less overrate them?

Ohio is nice.

They clearly got no money from Matador. Have you heard that record? I too struggle to pay rent in a high crime neighborhood but that's because I live in NY. If I lived in Columbus I be bigger than the New Bomb Turks.

remember when they opened for Pavement and they had some horrible comedian in drag introduce them? that was awkward.

Columbus has a terrible music scene. Anyone who thinks otherwise is delusional.
