Cult of Youth

Cult of Youth's brand new self-titled LP (out now on Sacred Bones) was celebrated at Secret Project Robot on Friday (2/25). Cult of Youth headlined the show and were joined by You, Blood Rhythm, and Mueran Humanos. Pictures and videos are in this post.

If you missed 'em on Friday, you have another pre-SXSW chance at Home Sweet Home on March 9th (131 Chrystie St, Manhattan) or when they're out on the road supporting Zola Jesus. That Zola Jesus tour, which includes dates with Naked On The Vague, hits Bowery Ballroom on April 23rd (tickets are still on sale).

Cult of Youth's full tour schedule and more pictures & some video from Friday night, below...

Very talented band, and also attractive.

That couldn't have been very good!

Welcome to HIPSTERVILLE.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2011 12:23 PM

Looks like hipster central party.....

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2011 12:23 PM

This segment along with the first comment must have been submitted by the headlining band. No one really cares about this. Please!

What are you guys talking about? Cult of Youth have been getting a considerable amount of press because they're a newish band that just released their debut. The nu-goth trend is pretty popular right now. I'd at the very least expect BV readers to know who this band is by now.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2011 12:51 PM

I think you could have done with posting about four of these photos.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2011 1:06 PM

Mueran Hummus

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2011 1:40 PM

I like how one of the violinists has stickers on her instrument to tell her where to play. Not being able to hear her play ( at work ) I wouldn't assume she's very good. Ah well, at least they have the cajones to get up there and do it. Plus, they're featured on a pretty neat site.

"politically agnostic" -- UGH

The girl on the left looks like a party slut version of Nika/Zola Jesus.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2011 1:56 PM

Cult of Youth is crap.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2011 1:56 PM

Too many pics...these bands are killer though.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2011 1:56 PM

12:51 - "The nu-goth trend is pretty popular right now"
Um, please stitch your tongue to the roof of your mouth & never speak again.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2011 2:07 PM

the photographer needs to learn how to focus. and the violinist needs to learn to S my D

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2011 2:28 PM

And L your Bs.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2011 2:42 PM

"nu goth" = social degenerates

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2011 2:47 PM

This is 12:51 again and no I won't shut up. Zola Jesus, Cold Cave, Abe Vigoda, Warpaint, The XX, Tamaryn and now Cult of Youth. Meet the 2010/2011 class of nu-goths everyone!

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2011 2:50 PM

anyone else have "cult of personality" stuck in their head?

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2011 3:01 PM

Is hummus a popular snack in the nu-goth scene?

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2011 3:06 PM

LEAVE THE GOTHS ALONE!

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2011 3:15 PM

You mad, bro?

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2011 3:26 PM

2:50 - Please lock yourself in a Hot Topic in your local mall. Thank you.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2011 3:34 PM

3:34 you don't even understand what goth means if you think Hot Topic defines it.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2011 3:36 PM

Can someone explain what a "Nu-Goth" is and where I may find one?

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2011 3:45 PM

Nu-goth is just another silly tagline like "cold wave" "chill wave" "witch house" "nu-gaze" "noise pop" used to describe hipster bands like this one.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2011 3:56 PM

Only in NYC would a basement full of 30 people (half of which are in the other bands) be considered a successful record release party.

Posted by Muzique Nonstop | February 28, 2011 4:12 PM

The photographer did a poor job of capturing the crowd (and the show in general.) By the time the second band was done the entire place was packed. I would say there were between 125-150 people jammed in that smokey basement by the time Cult of Youth went on. I was there and it was great.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2011 4:16 PM

"I was there and it was great."

so where are your photos?

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2011 4:46 PM

4:16 you can't count. There couldn't have been more than 70-80 people tops. Basement isn't that big but I was able to move around with 2 beers in my hand without much of a hassle.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2011 4:49 PM

4:46 I was too busy dancing. I go to shows to see bands.
4:49 My count come from who paid at the door and that doesn't even count the guest list. Maybe your double-fisting of beers blurred your perception.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2011 5:03 PM

Um, do you really need to be half naked to play the violin? Really?

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2011 5:03 PM

5:03 - so let me get this straight. You worked the door, you watched the bands, you danced, & you got a head count of everyone there. You know how to multitask, you're hired.

Cult of Youth are brilliant. However, the audience that they're attracting these days is really unfortunate. Hopefully, it'll only be a few months (weeks?) before the hipsters stop caring and move on to something else...

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2011 11:48 PM

Why is the babe in Mueran Humanos using a Microkorg? Gross bro.

Posted by Anonymous | March 1, 2011 8:49 AM

phantom power all over these pics!

Posted by Anonymous | March 1, 2011 12:56 PM

There is a power that few can see. For decades the finest minds in the world have attempted to develop a camera capable of capturing the mysterious "Phantom Power"on film.

Posted by Anonymous | March 1, 2011 1:37 PM

GOTH WILL NEVER DIE. NEVER!

Posted by Anonymous | March 1, 2011 4:45 PM

Just because hipster labels and hipsters like something does not that thing a hipster make. COY has been around for years before hipsters descended on their shows. It's just that 1/2 their homebase is Brooklyn now, so what can you expect? Also, SB has been releasing good and relatively ignored records for at least 3 years before Zola Jesus was released on them and they blew up so to speak.
Trust me 75% of that crowd does not own a release by any of the bands that played that night. (considering only 2 have releases out, I guess that says something)

Posted by fuckedyourmom | March 1, 2011 7:16 PM

Phantom Power is another name for shitty photography.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2011 6:28 PM

You mad, bro?

Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2011 8:04 AM

Which band were these kids dancing to? I don't know the first two bands, but this does not compute.

- A goth

Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2011 11:23 PM

A well-kept secret is that being half naked is crucial to playing the violin.

Posted by The Violinist | March 6, 2011 5:36 PM
