DOWNLOAD: Darwin Deez - Where's the Chocolate (from Wonky Beats mixtape) (MP3)

NY Press: How in the hell were you big in the U.K. before here?Grab that mix tape HERE. Sample the chocolate with the MP3 above.Darwin Deez: It was big there first because we had professionals working on it. We didn't have that here, because we were holding out for somebody decent. No labels came around that we liked. We were just waiting until now to do it, and we're doing it with the same people that were overseeing the release elsewhere in the world. It just needs to be done. We're all more available to focus on the American side of things now...
NY Press You also recently released a rap mix tape using only samples from Willy Wonka. You totally pulled a reverse Lil Wayne by going from pop to hip-hop.
Darwin Deez: I'm exactly that--a reverse Lil Wayne. Lil Wayne's rock album is shitty. My rap album is probably shitty.
And now, armed with his debut album full of pop hits (out in the USA TODAY), Darwin Deez is on his way to doing very well in his native country too, and especially his home of NYC. His show at Bowery Ballroom on Saturday night with Ava Luna & Friends was sold out. Pictures from the whole night are in this post.
Friends release their debut 7", called Friend Crush, in March via the same label (Lucky Number) that Darwin is signed to. You can stream the whole thing now below.
Darwin is about to kick off a European tour that ends before SXSW where he'll be playing at least two shows - one of which is a BrooklynVegan day party (stay tuned for more details). All Darwin dates, audio, video, and more pictures from Bowery Ballroom, are below...

"Radar Detector" is a definite pop hit, but all of his other songs sound exactly the same. Boring.

See. Deez. Big. Nutz.

Silly Darwin, it's not just your rap album that sucks. Everything you do is fucking awful! Don't sell yourself short!
Also, I don't think I want to meet anybody who actually went to this show. Would have been a good night for a gas leak at the venue.

If you are one of those poseurs near the stage with your arm in the air, the band does not love you any more than the next person who buys their music or their tickets.
You can put your arm down. You have been duped.

I don't like Deez, but I do have to give him respect for wearing a baja!
Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2011 5:31 PM
WTF is this shit?
although that chick in Friends looks pretty bangable
Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2011 5:38 PM
This is really awful. These bands are monsters and this whole thing is a nightmare.

Just puked a wee bit in my mouth...

I accidentally walked into a show of Mr. Deez's in San Francisco. After an hour of sitting at the bar wondering where I'd seen the asshole in a headband with a head and lips full of thinning pubes, I realized it was the dipshit who is responsible for this shitty music. Playground bullies really need to step up their game so dudes like this nix the whole effeminate weirdo thing in grade school.

This does not bangable, at least not without a bunch of alcohol.

Ava Luna's a fucking joke. Can someone please tell them to give up already?
Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2011 9:19 PM
Ava Luna killed tupac
Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2011 9:45 PM
The Beatles are a fucking joke. Can someone please tell them to give up already?
Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2011 9:53 PM
9:53 your band still sucks dude, get over it.
Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2011 10:07 PM
k im over it
Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2011 10:14 PM
Like some of you people would ever have an opportunity to try to get with any chicks like that.
Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2011 11:50 PM
I was talking about the dark haired chick with the bass
Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2011 1:35 AM
thank you a lot's

So ashamed that Brooklyn Vegan covered this. No one would be paying attention to Ava Luna if they didn't have three girl singers. But no one pays attention them anyway...meh.
Darwin Deez has one good song and the rest sound exactly the same.

I LOVE DARWIN DEEZ but why did he play with a bunch of losers? First band was ok but it seems like it's more a sideshow than actually good music. Forgettable. Friends played a good set but who are they and why is their first show in NY at Bowery Ballroom?
Never mind... why did Friends and Darwin Deez play with a bunch of losers?

"I was talking about the dark haired chick with the bass"
She ain't bad. That's just one angle with the camera though.
I was referring to the other people who can't post anything except inflammatory horseshit.
Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2011 12:37 PM
who cares about the chicks? the music is horrible
Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2011 12:41 PM
whoever writes ava lunas songs should be embarrassed
Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2011 10:20 PM
I'm embarrassed to admit I really like Radar Detector, but I got into it before I knew what this asshole looked like. I still like the song, but now it's a guilty pleasure. Dude, cut your hair off already, it's just shameful.
Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2011 10:54 PM
thank you a lot's

I see the guy in the first band at shows a lot, my friends and I make fun of him because he's a complete tool
Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2011 12:26 PM
so mean
Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2011 12:40 PM
I liked Friends better when they were called Dead Nation
Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2011 7:12 PM
c'mon... Friends only has ONE member of the totally fantastic, era-defining, & thrash-tastic glory that was DEAD NATION
Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2011 10:01 PM
^I was being a sarcastic dick for sarcastic dick's sake. Dead Nation does/did indeed rule and Matt is a total sweetheart.

Those are some pretty impressive tour dates. Why is everybody hating?
Posted by MVP Loops | February 26, 2011 12:09 AM
these people are wild I love it. this is making me want to go to some more shows!!
Posted by beats | March 2, 2011 1:34 PM
Why the hate? too much baby laxatives in your cocaine? or maybe you jerked off too hard to yourself in the mirror again... Regardless, Ava Luna is boss, Darwin Deez is mediocre, and you all are fags for reading brooklyn vegan
Posted by Anonymous | March 14, 2011 9:47 PM
what a bunch of fags, seriously. I can't even begin to describe how sick I am of hipster pussies like these jerkoffs.
Posted by Anonymous | March 14, 2011 10:16 PM
ohmygoodness! why is everyone so against darwin deez and his music? let him do what he wants. this is his art, don't tell him what to do. darwin is different, i think that is why everyone has such a problem with him.
