Governors Ball

"Founders Entertainment are proud to present the inaugural Governors Ball Music Festival (www.govball.com), a one day event to be held June 18 on New York City's Governors Island. Girl Talk, Pretty Lights, and Empire of the Sun are joined by Big Boi (of Outkast), Neon Indian, People Under The Stars, Mac Miller, Miami Horror, Passion Pit (DJ Set), Reptar, Outasight and other artists to be announced over the coming weeks. Closing out the festival will be Pretty Lights, whose rising popularity will be complimented by his brand new state of the art production.

The Governors Ball promises to be a massive mid-summer dance party of epic proportions. Performances will take place on two stages without overlapping sets, and feature stunning views. The artists appearing at the inaugural Governors Ball are diverse in scope and sound, spanning indie rock, dance, electronica, and hip hop, but the common theme and guiding force behind the festival is music that gets people of all walks of life moving, dancing and having a good time." - PR

Early Bird Tickets go on sale Thurs. Feb. 24th at 10 AM EST. They start at $75 each and go up in price as the date gets closer or if you want VIP options.

The closest thing we've seen to this on Governors Island is HARD Fest that took place with M.I.A. in July. This lineup, with more than one artist on the bill who can headline multiple nights at Terminal 5, is bigger though.

Meanwhile Girl Talk kicks off the next leg of his Winter Tour at a sold out Terminal 5 on 2/24. His last area show was at Wellmont earlier this month.

Looks sweet. We need more music festivals in the city. Definitely worth the trip out to gov island.

Wow! Talk about a dance party. Pretty diverse lineup too. this sounds fun

I love listening to Girl Talk but seeing him a few weeks ago was totally underwhelming, basically 'trying' to have a great time. I can honestly say that I've been better times listening to GT with friends while drinking outside during a BBQ than the actual show.

Obligartory comment regarding hummus, hipsters or herpes. Fuck you all...

Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2011 11:22 AM

What the hell is a "Dance Party?" People on here are always talking about them and getting very excited about them. Apparently they will occur at the LCD shows as well. Can someone please tell me what a "Dance Party" is like? I usually only attend "Standing with Arms Crossed" parties.

Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2011 11:28 AM

11:28, A "dance party" is when some ex-track jock-turned-yupster wearing a striped tank top, cutoff denim shorts, Vans and enjoys using the tanning bed at the gym the after he works out just his arms and pecs points repeatedly toward the stage while swaying from side to side as his girlfriend, a physically attractive bangs-over-the-eyes type girl sporting oversized sunglasses and one of those elongated shirt/dresses holds up her iPhones as he lifts her up to cheer annoyingly throughout the songs, or at least between the moments he isn't asking "Do you like my seven and a half inches? Do you like my seven and a half inches?," and the suck so much at life but you secretly wish you had a girlfriend as hot as that without the superficial personality.

Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2011 11:41 AM

I'm gonna dance all Dance Hall every day.

Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2011 12:08 PM

11:41 - desperately pathetic or pathetically desperate??? Hmmm...can't decide.

Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2011 12:09 PM

Is this Bowery Presents?

Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2011 12:13 PM

I actually feel kind of sorry for whoever wrote 11:41 because it's pretty obvious through their cunty assessment which ends with a "secretly wish" statement that they feel left out.

Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2011 12:16 PM

12:13 - No, Founders Entertainment, whatever that is. Says so right at the top of the press release.

11:41 - WOOOAAHH sucks to be you buddy!

Hard NYC was the worst concert experience of my life. There's more security than any airports and said security staff are just the worst people... And Governors Island is just a shit hole.

Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2011 12:58 PM

@12:58 I was at Hard NYC as well and it sucked for sure, but I was at Rock the Bells in August and it was a total breeze--barely a wait. They've tripled the ferries since then for events on the island. This event has potential.

Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2011 1:09 PM

- Excuse me waiter, what's this chickpea doing in my soup?

- It looks like the backstroke.

"Closing out the festival will be Pretty Lights, whose rising popularity will be complimented by his brand new state of the art production."

Unless "state of the art" (which, by the way, there should be hyphens connecting those words) means "sentient and opinionated," I doubt that Pretty Lights will be "complimented" by any production, brand new or otherwise.

Last step in starting a new music festival: hire a competent copy editor

If you don't know the DUNKACCINO meme you are obviously a newbie. Dunkaccino, while short-lived, was a refreshing alternative to the hummus meme and was far better than the recent 7.5 inches meme. So I say welcome back Mr. Dunkaccino...Let the good times roll!
